Chapter 245 Between life and death

Chapter 245 Between life and death
Chapter 248: Between Life and Death

Milo's POV

I floated in darkness.

Not the warm darkness of sleep or the cold darkness of unconsciousness. This was something else entirely… a void so dark and empty it felt like existence itself had forgotten me.

I couldn't feel my body. Couldn't sense up or down, hot or cold. Couldn't hear anything except my own thoughts echoing in the emptiness like stones dropped into a bottomless well. And the bloody fight with my sister that had shaken the earth to its core.

I remembered jumping with her at the last minutes, but the truth was the blast was just too much like i

Was this death? Did I die?

It didn't feel like I had imagined. There was no light at the end of a tunnel, no parade of memories, no sense of peace or release like they had told us to believe. Just... nothing. An infinite, suffocating nothing that pressed in from all sides.

I should have been terrified. Should have fought against it, or at least struggled to escape.

But I was so tired.

Tired of fighting. Tired of burning. Tired of being the omega who had to prove himself, had to sacrifice himself, had to destroy himself just to protect the people he loved.

My son's face floated into my head. For the first time in this dark hell hole, a ghost smile flashed across my face.

At least he will get to live peacefully after all…is it not what i have always wanted…

Maybe this nothingness was a mercy. Maybe I could just... let go. Drift away into the void and finally, finally rest.

"Is that truly what you desire, child?"

The voice came from everywhere and nowhere at the sametime, echoing through the darkness with a resonance that made my non-existent bones vibrate. It was a female, ancient, carrying the weight of centuries and the warmth that is not of this world.

Silver light bloomed in the void.

She materialized slowly in the void, taking shape from nothingness itself… is watched in shock, as a figure of impossible beauty and terrible power emerged out of the light.

The Moon Goddess!!

I recognized her even before my brain could process what it was seeing. The feeling was like an animalistic instinct that had been ingrained inside me. Just like how you know where your mouth is. It needed no introductions.

She looked at me with eyes that held galaxies, and her smile was infinitely sad and at the same time euphoric.

"You stand at a crossroads, my little purple wolf. Life or death. Existence or oblivion. The choice, as always, is yours. Is that your last decision?”

Before I could respond, different lights split the darkness. This one was red, and blinding, a far cry from the warm glow of the goddess. It pulsed like an infected wound.

"Don't listen to her."

The voice was mine but wrong… twisted with pure rage and bitterness and hatred. My demon. The manifestation of every dark thought, every moment of fury, every time I had wanted to tear the world apart for the pain it had caused me.

“Remember me” it said, lips curled up in pure disdain.

Of course I did. My mental mirror version I had unknowingly created. I thought I had defeated it before. Vanquished it in the depths of my unconsciousness when it had tried to trap me, to drown me in rage and vengeance.

But apparently it didn't die, it had gone down my subconscious part and now that I was trapped, it had appeared again…

“You are right Milo, I have come to finish my unfinished business.” The demon's laughter echoed, as if it could read my thoughts. “Please spare me the lectures, I can hear your every thought. Remember you created me.”

“Noo, oo, I killed you…i thought i did” i tried to back away from the evil, but I couldn't move.

“You can not kill what is not there milo. He is nothing but your imaginations you conjured out of desperation.” the moon goddess explained with pity, her once perfect face showing a hint of emotion.

Now that we have established that I cannot die, let's get to my unfinished business. Shall we.”

The demon coalesced from the red light, taking my shape… It was like looking into a mirror. But a corrupted, and twisted version of myself.

"You crossed a line," the demon growled, circling me like prey. "You killed, ripped flesh. Shattered bone. Reveled in violence and blood and power. You are not the peaceful omega anymore, little wolf. You are mine now. You belong to the darkness."

“Noo, pls” I pleaded, but it was no use. The darkness reached out like tentacles, about to drag me with it.

The Moon Goddess's light pulsed brighter, pushing back against the darkness. "He acted out of love. Out of the desperate need to protect those who could not protect themselves. That transcends darkness, demon. You know this."

"Love?" My demon laughed, bitter and mocking. "Love doesn't tear throats out. Love doesn't burn itself to ash just to kill an enemy. What he did wasn't love…it was rage. Beautiful, glorious rage. And once you have tasted that power, once you have let it consume you, there's no going back."

They began to circle each other, and I was caught between them. Silver light and red. Peace and violence. Life and oblivion.

"He fought for his son," the Goddess said, her voice gentle but unyielding. "For his mate. For every wolf who had suffered under tyranny. That is not darkness…that is the fiercest kind of love."

"He enjoyed it!" The demon snarled. "Felt the satisfaction of bones breaking, of blood flowing, of ultimate victory over an enemy. Don't deny it, little wolf. Don't pretend you didn't feel alive in those moments. More alive than you had ever felt before."

And gods help me, he wasn't wrong.

I had felt it… the rush of power, the savage joy of finally, being strong enough to protect what mattered. Of not being the weak omega everyone dismissed, but a force to be reckoned with.

Has that made me a monster?

"Every being contains multitudes," the Goddess said softly, as if reading my thoughts. "Light and dark. Gentleness and ferocity. The capacity for creation and destruction. You are not defined by one moment, one choice, one act of violence. You are defined by the totality of your existence."

"Pretty words," the demon sneered. "But they don't change what he is now. What we were always meant to become, a force to be feared in the whole world."

They moved closer, their lights clashing against each other with no clear winner. I felt my very essence being pulled both ways. like two magnets trying to claim the same piece of metal. The Goddess offered peace, rest, perhaps reincarnation into a life with less pain. The demon offered power, the embrace of rage, an end to the constant struggle of trying to be good.

"Choose," they said in unison, their voices blending into a harmony that shouldn't have been possible. "Life or death. Light or dark. Love or rage."

I floated between them, exhausted and broken and so, so lost.

How was I supposed to choose? How could anyone choose between such fundamental aspects of existence?

The demon leaned closer, his red eyes gleaming. "Choose us, little wolf. Let the darkness in. No more pain. No more struggle. No more burning yourself to nothing for people who will never truly understand what you sacrificed. With the combination of our power, together we will be on top of the food chain.

Together we will be gods!!"

The Goddess's light pulsed gently. "Choose life, purple child. Return to those who need you. To the son who carries your bond. To the mate who refuses to let you go. Yes, there will be pain. Yes, there will be struggle. But there will also be joy. Growth. The chance to become truly whole."

"Choose," they demanded again.

And I...

I didn't know what to choose.
