Chapter 22 : Dungeons
Chapter 22: Dungeon
Milo pov
I curl in on myself. I tried to cry, but all I could do was have. tears refusing to come out. Memories of what happened last night flashed in my mind.
The master had tried to question me. He had even used his alpha command, the ultimate weapons of the alphas. But mysteriously to my luck, the command didn't work on me.
My face burned as I remembered my shameful and desperate stunts, and my pleas to take my body. As a peace offering for my crimes, in exchange for sparing my family's life. I had thought he would reject me at first, but the pain coming from my back said it all.
The way he had used me like a ragdoll, unleashing all his anger and hunger on me. I could remember his degrading words as he ruthlessly broke me. Then, after which, he left me hanging. I was not even allowed to touch myself throughout.
I thought all had ended, that after all, he would kill me and be done with it.
But here I am, locked up in a dungeon, far away from civilization.
“Why am I here?. Somebody help me” I tried to scream. But a whisper came out. My strength was failing me at a rapid pace.
I tried to force my eyes open, but darkness crept in my vision. The effect of the wolfbane was immediately kicking in.
Within moments, I lay on the ground. I could feel my body shutting down slowly
“Maybe it's a good thing.” I thought weakly, my pains would shut down with my whole body.
I smiled, embracing the cold darkness.
Time passed, seconds, minutes or maybe hours, I didn’t know. I drifted between in and out consciousness and scary nightmares. An effect from the wolfsbane.
I strained my ears, hearing the sound of two or more people arguing about something or someone, i couldn't make out. Their voices echoed from beyond the stone walls. Before it stopped.
Not long after, the sound of heavy doors opening rang out, followed by footsteps approaching the cell.
My body tensed.
Is it time? Has he come to kill me? my thoughts ran wild.
I forced my eyes open just as the bar to my cell shook. Followed by the sound of clicking keys.
A gasp caught my attention. My eyes widened, seeing her. She was in between two guards who didn't look at all pleased.
She was wearing an armour. Maybe a secret clothes that prevented the effect of wolfbane from sipping into their system.
“Daphne?” I croaked, surprised to see her here.
She ran to me, crouching beside me as she cradled my head on her lap. Right now, I didn't realise I was stark naked. I embraced her with the little strength I had in me. Relief flooding my system. From seeing at least one person, I knew.
She was the woman who had saved me from Catherine the first time I had come here. The last I had seen her was before the dinner ball, but to me, after being in that hell hole, it felt like ages.
She touched my face with warm fingers, brushing away a strand of dirtied hair. “So young,” she whispered. “So broken already.”
I didn’t mean to cry. But the moment she held a cloth to my bruised cheek, hot tears oiled out like waterfall.
“I didn’t plan to kill the king,” I sobbed. “I didn’t mean to… she blackmailed me. I was only trying to survive. Please forgive me.”
“I know,” she said softly. “I know, little one.”
I blinked at her, my heart pounding. “You… believe me?”
She gave a tight nod. “Yes milo, I know that you have a pure heart, and wouldn't want to poison your master if you were not forced to do so. Even your master knows. But the court… the commanders… Everybody's attention is on him. Especially following what happened a few years ago. They think his mercy is weakness. And weakness, in this empire, is death.”
My breath hitched. “Then why am I still alive?”
“I don't know, but let's hope it's a good thing.”
I wanted to break down again at her answer as I fell into despair.
She took a dry biscuit from a pouch and placed it in my hand. I stared at it like it was a treasure. “Eat slowly, It will help with the shaking.”
“Does he know you are here?” I asked her suspiciously, but she ignored my question.
“Eat for now, and regain your strength.” She encouraged me while having an unknown expression on her face as she continued to stare at me with pity on her face.
Without needing another invitation, I took a bite, chewing in silence, while all the time the woman wouldn't stop looking at me.
The air felt heavy and intense, but this time, the silence was not as depressing as it was before.
But then, no good thing was meant to last. She rose to her feet and nodded to the guards. “I will speak to him. Damon needs to get his senses.”
The guards tensed, at the mention of his name like it was a taboo. But the woman, if she noticed, didn't care. She walked away with heavy steps. The guards followed, their torchlight fading together with their fading footsteps, plunging me into gloomy darkness once again.
The darkness pressed on me from all sides. I could not even make use of my werewolf abilities as the wolfbane continued to mess with every supernatural perk.
But just as I closed my eyes to welcome the now familiar darkness… I felt it.
A presence, it could have been my senses or even the wolfbane playing tricks on me, but I saw it.
Outside the bars.
Someone was watching me in the shadows. My breath hitched.
My chest rose up and down, in response to the fear that spread through me.
Was it the guards? Or maybe a secret agent that was sent to watch over me, in case I tried to escape?
Or was it him?
But by the time I opened my eyes again, the feeling of the presence was gone, as if it was never there.
Only the cold and darkness remained.
