Chapter 101 No Escape
No escape
Damon POV
“Milo…” I muttered his name for like a hundred times since I slammed the door on his face.
Every step down the corridor only fueled the fury that was rising inside me, so fast that it scared me.
When was the last time I felt this angry? To the extent of craving blood and carnage. The urge to rip out someone's head kept on growing, especially when the person was the cause of everything. Every guard i passed stiffened uncontrollably, I knew that my rage was dripping off me, but I didn’t give a fucking care.
I should never have left…, my fist clenched together tightly..
Cornel! That traitorous bastard. He didn’t only manipulate Milo, he also made sure to bind him to a binding oath. The binding oath is an ancient ritual. The highest and the most effective way of agreeing to a deal. In our world that is filled with vicious and wild werewolves, the binding oath is the safest way to seal a deal between alphas or packs.
And now, Milo was by law, binded to this old ancient oath taking. By law, Milo had no escape, not. even if he wanted to. He had no choice but to fight the death match. And the worst is that I had no right to undo it without shaming myself and exposing weakness in front of the entire pack.
This could have happened if I hadn't gone through with the branding.
That was the truth. The cruel, bitter truth. My pack is a rebel pack, and our life is full of struggles and the quest for survival from the council. Any show of weakness is frowned upon, no matter who it comes from.
I could still remember their taunts and faces that were carved into evil smiles.
I remembered the hot furnace, the gasps of the anticipating crowd as the mark hissed against his flesh. I could still remember his scream that had etched itself in my soul.
But what everybody didn't know was the slight movement of my hands during the marking ritual, I had hitted bone, instead of flesh. Nobody noticed that something was wrong with the rod even till now.
they didn’t know, and neither did Milo.
My jaw tightened, my steps slowed as I reached the huge iron doors that were located deep in my palace.
I shut my eyes. For one second I let the faint painful wails of my prisoners wash through me.
“Kill the bastard” Dax, voice boomed. His anger kept on projecting outside, leaking out of my pores in the form of alpha aura.
“Gladly,” I replied, before pushing the door open, and stepping inside the faint, hidden dark underground that was kept secret from the world.
Torches lined the stone walls burning slowly, and illuminating the whole place in a low ominous light. The underground stank of heavy iron and the smell of rot. The sound of my boots hitting the bare ground echoed, mixing with the curses and insults the prisoners threw at me, as I passed their cells. I merely raised my eyebrows, continuing my journey with deliberate movement, towards the cell at the extreme end of the long corridor where the bastard knelt. Chained and bloodied. The punishers saluted me as I entered.
My hands clenched hard. Fighting my claws that were about to slide out without my consent.
“Kill him”
“Why…?” I asked through gritted teeths, at the same time trying to keep Daxx at bay. But he didn’t answer, not like I was expecting his answer anyways. A little pain wouldn't force an ex hardened shadow wing member to break just like that. He just sat on the metal chair, head bowed, lips pressed in a thin line.
That was why they were the number one combatant group in my pack. Breaking through them would take days, but unfortunately I don't have days…
My hand swung so fast that no one saw it until the impact of a few bones breaking and teeth clattering to the ground, rang in my ears like music. My wolf howled for more.
“Let me repeat myself once more,” I scowled, cleaning invisible dirt away from my knuckles. “Do you even understand what you did? You didn’t just sign Milo up for suicide match. You spat on everything we built. Our oath, the brotherhood, our order. We never betray one another. Never.”
Cornel lifted his head slowly, blood dripping from his nose from my punch earlier on. His eyes, hollowed and sunken, met mine in a fearless, defiant glare.
“You betrayed us first,” he rasped, voice weak but steady. “You broke the order the day you decided to protect him.”
My chest tightened, a deep growl rumbled in my chest. “Watch your mouth.”
His lips curved into a twisted bitter smile. “You act like a king, that is above his subjects, Damon. But you’re no king. You are just a man blinded by his own guilt. You think no one sees it, we all know.”
Heat flooded my veins, my whole body trembled in barely controlled rage. I felt my wolf almost at the edge again, almost st breaking through my defenses.
“Don’t…” I ground out, stepping forward until my boots nearly crushed his toes. “Don’t test me, Cornel.”
“Then prove me wrong,” he spat blood, grin widening through his bruised lips. “Or kill me. That’s what you want, isn’t it? To silence me because I stood up to you.”
The sound that left my throat was half-growl, half-snarl. I saw red, but before I could pounce on the ungrateful brat, a voice broke through the tension.
“Commander.”
I paused, turning to see James leaning against the doorway, his tone was as calm as ever, but his eyes said otherwise. It was filled with a silent storm. And it kept on flickering between the boy on the chair, and back to me.
“The commanders are waiting. All of them. They are gathered in the war hall.”
For a moment, I didn’t move. My body tensed uncontrollably. I found it hard to breathe well. I didn't want to leave. My wolf yearns for blood, noo, Cornel’s throat in between my teeth as I rip it out of him. I fought the urge to kill him there and now,
But then how much fun will it be? I have never been fond of giving my enemies a merciful death. Slowly, I straightened.
I glanced at the rest of the shadow unit members, lingering in the shadows, watching silently. “Continue from where I stopped, but make sure he has a breath in him.” I ordered coldly. My words left no space for mercy.
Cornel’s head dropped again. He didn’t flinch. He didn’t beg… well not for long.
I turned and left the chamber, at the same time a bone chilling scream echoed behind me, but was easily silenced as the heavy cell door slammed shut behind me.
