Chapter 206 Book 2 CHPT 38: It’s Over
ALINA'S POV

My heart did a somersault before sinking straight into my stomach.

“What… are you talking about?” I gasped out, my voice barely holding together.

“Oh, sorry,” Nikita grinned as she unwound her hand from my throat.

A rush of air flooded my lungs, and I gasped sharply as I inhaled, my chest rising and falling uncontrollably.

“Alina!” Valentino’s voice rang out from where he was.

When my breathing finally steadied, I turned my attention to Nana, who was already sobbing in Julius’s embrace.

“Na…” The word died in my throat, heavy and painful.

“Is this true? Sei davvero una spia (are you really a spy)?”

She could not even look at me the way she used to. Instead, she broke into loud, uncontrollable sobs.

“What kind of stupid question is that?” Nikita snapped sharply.

“If she is not a spy, how is it possible she knows everything about you just by reading your palm, even down to the last time you had sex? Or do you think it was all a coincidence that you almost hit her that day? It was all staged, Alina. Use your little brain for once, sì (yes)?”

A wave of dizziness blurred my vision for a moment.

No… that cannot be true.

Nana? A spy?

But if she was, then why was her prediction about my pregnancy accurate? Why had she not told Nikita that I was pregnant?

No… something is not right.

I slowly rose from my seat and walked toward Nana. When I reached her, I stood close enough to shield our voices from Nikita.

“Is this true?” I asked, my eyes already burning with tears.

She slowly lifted her head until her gaze met mine, and then she nodded.

“I’m sorry,” she cried.

“She threatened to kill Alfredo if I did not use my knowledge to manipulate you. I did what I had to do to protect my family. Mi dispiace (I am sorry).”

My breath caught, and I staggered back, my vision darkening.

“Alina!” Valentino shouted again, but I forced myself to steady.

Be strong.

You have survived worse than this.

For your child… be strong.

Behind me, Nikita laughed in delight.

“Are you enjoying the surprise?” she mocked. “Interessante, vero (interesting, right)?”

I bent slightly, resting my hands on my knees until my vision cleared.

Then I straightened and turned back to Nana.

“Why would you get involved with people like this, Mom?” Julius asked, disbelief filling his voice.

My hand shot forward, and I grabbed Nana by her neckline, pulling her close.

“You wicked woman!” I screamed, loud enough for everyone to hear.

“I thought I finally found someone who saw me, someone who understood me, but you are just like everyone else in my life. A betrayal.”

I could hear Nikita’s delighted laughter behind me.

I leaned closer and whispered into Nana’s ear.

“Did she know about my pregnancy?”

She shook her head quickly.

“No,” she whispered back.

“It was not part of the plan. I was supposed to deceive you, but when I saw who you truly are, not the villain she portrayed you to be, I could not do it fully. I had to help you… to atone for my mistakes.”

Tears slid down my face, but this time they carried relief along with pain.

“Grazie (thank you),” I mouthed silently.

She looked confused, as if she expected anger, but I already understood.

Nikita is capable of anything.

She threatened her family.

How could I blame a woman forced to choose between a stranger and her own blood?

I can’t.

I needed to find a way to get Nana and her family out of this mess. They were innocent.

An idea struck my mind at that moment, and I quickly stepped into action.

I mouthed a quick “I’m sorry” to Nana before delivering a sharp slap across her face.

The sound echoed.

Nana fell to the ground, trembling at my feet.

“Mom!” Julius shouted, rushing to her.

“You vile old woman! Ti ucciderò (I will kill you)!” I yelled, raising my leg as if to strike her again.

“Basta (enough)!” Nikita’s voice cut through the air sharply.

Just as I expected.

I met Julius’s eyes briefly and whispered under my breath, “Take her and Alfredo. Leave when you get the chance. I will create an opening.”

He looked stunned but nodded slightly.

I turned back to Nikita and walked toward her.

“Why?” I demanded. “Why go through all this just to send a fake astrologer to feed me lies?”

She brushed invisible dust from her coat, then gave me a cold, fake smile.

“Because I needed you away from him,” she said calmly.

“How else would I create distance between you and your husband? I sent a fake astrologer to tell you to stay away from him if you ever want to conceive, knowing very well you would obey.”

She laughed again, her shoulders shaking.

“At first, I thought it might fail, but our dear Donna is desperate, sì (yes)? Desperate to give her husband an heir. Of course you would fall for it.”

Her laughter grew louder, almost hysterical.

“A desperate woman is the easiest person to control. Tell me, how did you even believe something so stupid?”

My chest rose and fell as anger built inside me, hot and suffocating.

It felt like something was boiling under my skin, ready to explode.

I clenched my teeth, trying to hold it back.

“Nikita,” I said slowly, my voice shaking with fury, “I will make you pay for every pain you have caused me and my family. Lo giuro (I swear).”

Her face darkened instantly.

“You are nothing but a powerless Donna,” she snapped.

“How dare you speak of revenge?”

She lunged for my throat again, but this time I was ready.

I stepped aside quickly, and she stumbled forward, losing her balance and crashing onto the ground.

“My lady!” Decimus shouted, rushing toward her.

At the same time, Julius moved fast.

He pulled Nana up, and within seconds, they disappeared into the house. Moments later, I saw them escape through the back with Alfredo.

I exhaled deeply.

Thank God.

“Leave me!” Nikita snapped at Decimus as he helped her up.

Then her eyes locked onto me, burning with rage.

“Kill her. Now.”

Before I could react, Decimus pulled out a knife and started toward me.

I glanced at Valentino, but he was still locked in his own brutal fight, too far to reach me in time.

I stepped back until my legs hit the bench, and I fell onto it, my heart pounding violently.

“Do it, you fool!” Nikita screamed.

Decimus raised the knife high and brought it down toward my chest.

“Val!” I screamed.

Just as the blade was inches away, something shot past my vision.

A gunshot rang out.

The bullet struck Decimus’s wrist.

The knife slipped from his hand and dropped onto my lap as he screamed in agony, blood pouring out rapidly.

Everything froze.

What the heck just happened?

My eyes followed the direction the bullet came from, my breath caught somewhere between fear and hope.

Then I saw him.

A tall figure stepping out of the shadows, his movements calm, controlled, like the chaos around him did not exist.

Dante? He’s back?

Relief hit me so hard my body almost gave out.

Finally, reinforcements had arrived.

He lowered his gun slightly, his cold eyes sweeping across the scene in one slow, assessing glance.

“È finita (it’s over),” he said quietly, his voice carrying enough authority to cut through the tension.

Decimus dropped to his knees, clutching his bleeding wrist, sobbing and groaning in pain.

Nikita’s face twisted with fury, but she dared not say a word.

“You’re late,” Bianca snapped from where she still had her gun pointed at Val.

Dante’s gaze moved to her, reserved and unimpressed.

“No,” he replied calmly. “I’m right on time.”
