Chapter 31 Normal does not exist…..
I went to her door and kissed her like I have been starving for it.
And she kissed me back.
It was the kind of moment that rewrites a man. The kind that makes you forget the danger, the enemies, the rules you built your life around. The night was magical and everything was perfect.
Afterward, I did something even more out of character. I took advice from Google. How to make a woman feel special. How to plan a meaningful date.Ridiculous. But I did it anyway.
I raided her social media, looking for clues — places she dreamed of, things she loved, moments she posted without thinking anyone important was watching.
And I took her there.
And when I saw her reaction — the shock, the awe, the way her eyes softened — I knew I made the right choice.
Until her phone rang. And the spell broke.
Something about that phone call snapped something loose inside me.
The hesitation in her voice, the way she looked at the screen before answering — it told me everything I needed to know. I didn’t have to ask who he was to her. I could feel it and I hated the way that made me feel.
But I didn’t react. I didn’t need to. Years of discipline kept my face still, my voice calm, my hands steady. But inside, something shifted — a reflex I have spent years burying.
I wasn’t built for love.I was built for survival. For strategy.
For eliminating threats before they grew teeth.
And suddenly this harmless ordinary man felt like a threat.
I should make few calls.
Not to hurt him. Not to cross a line I couldn’t uncross.
Just to know who he was. Information was control, and control was the only thing keeping me steady.
I was still replaying the look on her face when I left — the confusion, the hurt, the unspoken questions — when my phone rang. I almost ignored it, still caught between wanting her and trying to protect her from everything I was.
But the caller ID snapped me back. Tom.
His voice was sharp, urgent. He told me the Mexicans were making moves — trying to poach our clients, sniffing around our other operations, testing boundaries they had no business touching.
Just like that, the softness of the day evaporated.
My grip tightened on the steering wheel. One moment I was kissing her on a mountain, pretending I could give her something normal. The next, I was being dragged back into the reality I could never escape. And the timing couldn’t have been worse.
I diverted and drove straight to the warehouse to deal with the situation. The road stretched ahead of me, empty and cold, and for a moment a thought slipped in -
If only I could give the Mexicans what they want. Marry his daughter, seal the deal, secure the alliance. It would make the Mexicans back off.
But I knew better, in my world. Giving them anything would only make them hungrier. And I was already stretched thin.
I found Tom pacing near the crates, phone still in his hand. The second he saw me, he exhaled like he’d been holding his breath.“Alex is on his way,” he said.
Alex has been.....off and distant. He Looks like something’s eating him alive this past week. And if I had to guess? It’s the girlfriend. Maybe she finally figured out who he really is and dumped his sorry ass.
But the truth was, I understood Alex more than I wanted to admit.
By the time Alex reached the warehouse, the team was already assembled, their expressions grim. The briefing started immediately, and the more I listened, the clearer it became.
The Mexicans were getting information they shouldn’t have.Information only someone inside our circle could know.
A snitch.
The thought twisted in my gut. A traitor inside my own Organisation. Someone smiling in my face while handing our business to the enemy. I scanned the room, reading every shift in posture, every flicker of hesitation. Nothing obvious surfaced, which only made the situation worse.
Betrayal from the outside was expected but betrayal from within was unforgivable.
Luca was had been kept far from this side of the business. He wasn’t made for the brutality of it, and I’d always made sure he stayed insulated, focused on the clubs where the stakes were lower.
The more I reviewed the situation, the more the pattern sharpened. Luca's hit. It was the Mexicans sending a message — a warning carved straight into my bloodline.
This traiter was someone close, who thought they could play both sides. And I intended to find them.
The hours ahead stretched long and unforgiving. Today wasn’t going to end quickly, and I knew it the moment I looked around the room. Faces I have trusted for years now felt like a lineup of possibilities, each one capable of being the leak that had put us in this position.
I was prepared to interrogate every single one of them.
One by one. Patiently and Relentlessly.
If it meant staying in this warehouse until the sun came up, then that’s what I would do.
