Chapter 97
I brought the food and put on some nice makeup, then headed to Kane's company building.
Kelly spotted me right away and greeted me warmly.
"Mrs. Moretti, you're here."
Her voice was crisp and clear, catching the attention of passing employees who looked at me curiously with puzzled expressions.
Last time I came to the company, it was during break time, so I didn't attract much attention.
But this time, during work hours, everyone heard Kelly's greeting and curiously turned to look at me.
I smiled a bit shyly and took out a packaged dessert from my other pocket, saying to Kelly, "I thought you might not be here today. I made these treats myself. You should try them. If you like them, I'll bring some every time I visit."
Kelly's eyes lit up with delight.
She took the dessert box and praised, "This cupcake looks delicious. Thank you so much! Mr. Moretti is in a meeting right now. You can wait for him in his office."
Kelly was very smooth and perceptive. She knew I must be here to see Kane.
I smiled and nodded at her, then headed to the same elevator as last time.
I placed my hand on it, but it set off an alarm. The sound was quite harsh, and more people looked at me.
I lowered my head, a bit embarrassed, and took out my phone to call Kane. Just then, another beautiful, slender hand reached over and waved at the elevator keypad.
The elevator doors opened. I blinked, looking at the woman standing next to me in surprise.
She was a very beautiful woman - blonde hair, blue eyes, red lips, wearing a very sexy red dress that showed off her stunning figure.
I asked, somewhat confused, "Who are you?"
She smiled at me in a very familiar way.
"You must be Kane's new wife, right? This elevator requires fingerprint access. I'll take you up."
She seemed very familiar with Kane. I bit my lip and couldn't help but frown.
I'd never heard Kane mention anyone like this. What could their relationship be?
Standing in the elevator, I smelled the woman's subtle fragrance and felt inexplicably uncomfortable.
Since it required fingerprint access and was Kane's private elevator, they must have a pretty close relationship, right?
Could she be another one of Kane's former lovers?
Thinking this, my mood got even worse.
The woman seemed to sense my bad mood.
She turned around and said to me with a smile, "We're here. You can wait for him in his office. I need to go find him."
Watching the woman walk away, I looked at my reflection in the mirror.
For the first time, I examined myself so carefully.
I really did look worlds apart from that woman.
She looked expensive and elegant, with full breasts, a perky butt, and a slim waist - the kind of woman who would drive men crazy.
My chest wasn't small, but my butt didn't seem perky enough, though my waist was fairly slim.
But compared to her, I somehow fell far short.
I irritably pushed up my chest - it was all because I didn't get enough nutrition during my growth years.
I thought that if I'd been able to eat properly during my growth period, my figure would probably be better than it is now.
While I was thinking about this, I heard the elevator doors open again.
I turned around and locked eyes with Bandel.
For some reason, Bandel seemed a bit awkward when he saw me. He cleared his throat, "Mrs. Moretti, please wait a moment. I'll go get Mr. Moretti."
I quickly waved my hand, "Isn't he in a meeting? I can just wait for him here."
Bandel nodded, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
I looked at him and asked directly, "Is there something you want to tell me?"
Since I'd asked, Bandel finally stopped being awkward.
He thought for a moment and asked me, "What brands does Nina like?"
Joy welled up in my heart.
Bandel was actively asking about Nina's preferences, which meant things must be going well between them.
I blinked at him, "How's your date going?"
Bandel's face reddened a bit, but he still nodded.
I could tell Bandel was interested in Nina, too.
I thought for a moment and said to Bandel, "Nina doesn't have any particular favorite brands. She just really likes things with butterfly elements."
You could tell from Nina's usual outfits - many of her accessories and clothes had butterflies on them.
Hearing this, Bandel nodded thoughtfully.
"Okay, thank you, Mrs. Moretti. I need to take these documents downstairs now. Please wait here. If you want anything to eat or drink, there's stuff prepared in the lounge next door."
After saying this, Bandel turned and left.
I pushed the woman from earlier out of my mind and took out my phone to message Nina.
[I just ran into Bandel at Kane's company. Is your date over? How did it go?]
Nina immediately video-called me.
On the screen, her smile looked radiant, and she seemed to glow with sunshine.
I hadn't seen Nina smile this happily in a long time.
Her eyes were bright as she said to me, "Bandel is really a great guy. He's very gentlemanly, and he's funny and interesting to talk to. Most importantly, I can understand him."
I remembered how Nina once went on a date with a guy who had asked for her contact info on the street, saying he thought she was beautiful.
Nina had happily gone on the date with him.
But Nina wasn't happy when she came back, because the man talked about things that were too deep and mysterious for her to understand.
Not only that, when he saw Nina didn't understand, he didn't explain at all, and even showed some contempt in his eyes.
But Bandel was completely different from that man. He would occasionally mention his work.
Nina definitely didn't fully understand what his job was, but Bandel would patiently explain it to her, never looking down on her at all.
Nina's voice was cheerful and excited, like a cute lark. "Bandel even asked me to go on a picnic with him next time!"
My eyes lit up.
I also loved going on outings - bringing homemade food, meeting different people, seeing all kinds of beautiful scenery.
I said somewhat eagerly, "Can Kane and I join?"
Nina immediately nodded in agreement, "I think that's fine. The four of us know each other well, so the trip will definitely be fun."
Nina and I smiled at each other. Seeing Nina so happy, I couldn't help but sigh.
Nina's smile faded as she asked with concern, "Dear Sonya, what's wrong? You don't seem very happy."
I hesitated, then told her about the woman I'd just encountered.
