Chapter 54
Nina watched as Kane carried Sonya back to the room, a happy smile spreading across her face. She couldn't help but wonder to herself.
I wonder when my Mr. Right will come along.
Just as she was thinking this, a smiling man appeared in front of Nina.
Nina looked up at him in surprise, blinking her eyes.
This was a man with blonde hair and blue eyes.
He wore a custom-tailored suit that clearly showed he was someone important.
Nina nervously lowered her head, wanting to leave, but unexpectedly, the man blocked her path.
Nina frowned, looked up at him, and asked cautiously, "Excuse me, sir, can I help you with something?"
But he introduced himself instead.
"Beautiful lady, sorry to bother you, but I'm Kane's brother, Robert. The moment I saw you just now, I thought you were very beautiful. Perhaps we could get to know each other."
Nina was startled by this sudden conversation.
She never expected Sonya's bouquet of flowers to work so well.
A handsome man had just appeared, wanting to meet her.
This was something she wouldn't have dared to imagine before.
After all, she knew she was just an ordinary woman with an unremarkable job and education, and could never have any connection with these mafia family members.
But today, here, Kane's brother had come up to her, wanting to meet her on his own initiative.
Nina blinked, her expression a bit dazed.
She nodded at the man.
A moment later, she asked somewhat embarrassedly, "May I ask what you're looking for me for?"
Robert smiled and handed her a cocktail.
Looking at Nina, he said very seriously, "I felt I should come meet such a beautiful lady as yourself."
Nina blushed at the compliment.
But she still maintained her composure, looking at Robert and saying, "I'm just an ordinary person."
Robert shrugged nonchalantly, "Ordinary people don't have such a cute appearance as yours."
Nina felt her face flush at this compliment.
But in the next moment, she thought of something and sighed quietly to herself.
Maybe it was because she stood out so differently from the other girls here.
Those mafia girls looked so glamorous, like jewelry in a display window caught by spotlights.
And she was just a decoration on the side. This young gentleman, used to seeing jewelry, was probably just acting on a whim, and because Sonya had just handed her the flowers, he had noticed her.
Nina's briefly excited mood sank again.
She forced a smile at the man, but her eyes carried a hint of loneliness.
She said to the man, "I'm wearing makeup today. Normally, I don't look this good. I'm afraid I'll disappoint you."
But Robert shook his head, his tone carrying some disagreement.
"You should trust me, my eyes don't make mistakes. What I see is your pure soul and kind heart, not your appearance."
These words made Nina's lips curve upward involuntarily.
Maybe this person really was different from the others.
After all, he was Kane's brother, and Kane was different from other mafia members, wasn't he?
Whatever kind of person Robert was.
Nina admitted she was indeed moved by what he said.
She watched Robert take out his phone and quickly pulled out her own phone too.
Good thing Sonya had bought her a new phone earlier.
At least she didn't have to pull out that old, dirty, somewhat laughable phone to exchange contact information with Robert.
"Perhaps I could take you out to dinner sometime?" Robert's eyes looked especially affectionate.
Nina had wanted to be reserved, but she still nodded.
Seeing Nina nod, Robert smiled and left.
Watching his retreating figure, Nina's heart couldn't stop racing.
Robert returned to his friends, and one of them, a young man with tawny curly hair, laughed and patted his shoulder.
"How was it? I told you, women like her from the slums can't resist our charm."
Robert, who had just been polite and gentlemanly, turned cold and sneered.
"You guys don't know, when I got close to her just now, I smelled this really awful smell - probably the stench of poverty."
At these words, everyone burst out laughing.
As Robert was laughing, a warning voice came from behind him.
"That's your sister-in-law's friend. If you treat her like this and your sister-in-law finds out, your brother definitely won't let you off."
Robert's smile froze. He turned around to find it was Bandel.
For this lackey of the supporting male character, Robert curled his lip disdainfully.
He crossed his arms and stared coldly at Bandel, saying, "I didn't lie to her. I really do plan to take her out for a meal."
But Bandel knew exactly what this person was thinking.
He stared at Robert, his expression not softening at all, the warning tone even stronger.
"Miss Nina is your sister-in-law's best friend, not a plaything like before. You'd better not have any other ideas."
After saying this, Bandel left.
He was heading toward Nina.
If it were anyone else, he definitely wouldn't go out of his way like this.
But he was very clear about Nina's relationship with the female lead. If something really went wrong, Kane would probably fly into a rage.
Clearly, Robert and his friends hadn't realized how serious this matter was.
Thinking of this, Bandel's expression grew colder.
He didn't even realize he had already walked up to Nina.
Nina was still happy about Robert's earlier approach when she suddenly saw the cold-faced Bandel standing in front of her, and couldn't help but freeze.
But she remembered Bandel was someone close to Kane, so her tone became somewhat cautious, "Excuse me, sir, can I help you with something?"
Hearing Nina's clear voice, Bandel snapped back to attention.
He quickly softened his expression, and, after choosing his words carefully, said to Nina, "I just saw Mr. Robert come over and speak with you."
Hearing Robert's name, Nina smiled again.
She nodded, looking quite absorbed in the moment.
Seeing this, Bandel sighed helplessly.
Robert was famously a playboy in the mafia.
The number of women who had desperately pined for him was already in the triple digits.
This time, he had actually set his sights on Nina - damn it.
Bandel collected his thoughts and said seriously to Nina, "Miss Nina, the gentleman who just added your contact information was Robert, also Mr. Moretti's brother, but his reputation isn't very good. If you're choosing a partner, I hope you'll consider carefully, because if something goes wrong, you might not be able to handle the consequences."
Bandel's words were like a bucket of cold water poured over Nina's head.
The little spark that had just been kindled was instantly extinguished.
