Chapter 49
I don't know if all body treatments are as sleep-inducing as theirs.
At least I think this was the best sleep I've ever had.
When the girl woke me up, I opened my drowsy eyes and instinctively looked down at my body, gasping in surprise. I had never seen such tender, fair skin on myself before. Under the light, I even seemed to be glowing.
Emma, the girl who had greeted me at the door earlier, said to me with a smile, "All the treatments are complete now. You can check if there's anything you're not happy with."
Under her guidance, I walked over to the full-length mirror.
I was only wearing a silk nightgown, and it was a short one at that.
I could see almost my entire body. My skin looked like milk, with a delicate sheen, and it seemed polished, without a single blemish anywhere.
I looked at Emma in amazement.
Emma nodded with a smile. "Looks like you're very satisfied. In that case, I've completed my job perfectly."
"But next, we still need to do your hair treatment and facial treatment. It'll be another long session, so you can just relax and enjoy it."
Emma said this and then led me to the already prepared treatment room.
I had never explored this estate before and didn't know it had something like this.
I was arranged to lie down and closed my eyes once again.
When I opened my eyes again, I almost didn't recognize the person in the mirror.
Before, I looked pretty through makeup, clothes, and hairstyling. But now I realized that my features were actually quite beautiful, delicate and petite, with bright, lively eyes.
Emma walked to my side, looking surprised, and praised me repeatedly.
"You're the most beautiful person I've ever seen. It's just that your previous style didn't quite suit you. Look, now you're just like a doll in a shop window."
I looked at myself in the mirror, reluctant to look away.
Just as she said, I now looked like those dolls, perfect down to every strand of hair.
My hair, which was already pretty shiny, now looked as light and lustrous as seaweed floating in the ocean, with a slight wave to it.
I inherited this from my mother - she had naturally curly hair.
I touched my face - it was as tender as a freshly peeled egg, without a single visible pore, and it made the color of my eyes look even brighter and clearer.
I turned to look at Emma and sincerely thanked her.
Emma smiled and shook her head. "This is just what I'm supposed to do. Since you're satisfied, I'll leave now. Keep this face mask - apply it before bed tonight, and your skin will be even better tomorrow."
Watching Emma and her team leave, I smiled.
I placed the face mask on the vanity and continued looking at myself in the mirror.
I can't help being a bit self-absorbed - my previous life really didn't give me the time or mood to look at myself properly.
Looking at the parts of my face that resembled my mother's, I felt a soft warmth in my heart. If my mother had married a good man back then, she would have been even more beautiful than I am now.
I'll always remember my mother's warm hands and the perpetual fresh scent of laundry detergent on her - I really miss her.
Suddenly, something occurred to me, and I took out my mother's necklace that Kane had given me from the box.
The necklace wasn't particularly valuable, but to me it was priceless.
If possible, I hoped I could wear it to the wedding tomorrow.
With this thought, I decided to gather my courage and discuss it with Kane when he came back.
Before long, Kane returned.
He was carrying a box in his hand.
The box's packaging looked very expensive, covered in velvet on the outside.
I walked up to Kane, about to speak, when he handed me the box, his eyes signaling me to open it and look.
Seeing how expectant he looked, I swallowed the words I was about to say.
The moment I opened the box, I gasped.
It was an extremely beautiful pearl necklace, and of very high quality. Even though I didn't know much about these things, I could tell it was expensive.
I looked up at Kane hesitantly.
Kane said to me, "Tomorrow, your wedding dress is that satin style. If the jewelry is too fancy with that dress, it would actually look cluttered, so I had this pearl necklace custom-made for you."
I looked down and saw the price tag in the corner. Oh my god, this necklace cost hundreds of thousands of dollars!
I was so shocked I almost dropped it, but Kane quickly grabbed my hand.
His laughter rang in my ears. "What? Are you so happy you can't hold it steady?"
I quickly shook my head, wanting to return the necklace to Kane.
But Kane's tone became serious, as if deliberately trying to scare me. "What's wrong? I told you those things before to scare you, so now you're not going to listen to me?"
I was silent for a moment, but finally said what was on my mind.
I took out my mother's necklace and held it up in front of him, saying, "This necklace isn't worth much, but it's my mother's keepsake. So I wanted to wear it at the wedding, so my mother could attend my wedding too."
Kane stared at that dull necklace, seeming to think about something.
I thought he wouldn't be angry, would he? After all, wearing such a necklace to a mafia family heir's wedding would be pretty embarrassing.
Suddenly, Kane smiled.
He carefully took the necklace from my hand and said to me in a gentle tone, "Why didn't you say so earlier? If you had, I could have had a craftsman embellish it a bit."
I looked at Kane's smile in surprise, with some amazement in my eyes, but from his attitude, he was serious.
"But it's not too late now. This necklace isn't very big - you can totally wear it and then also wear the pearl necklace I'm giving you."
As he spoke, Kane actually put my mother's necklace around my neck.
Then he put the pearl necklace worth hundreds of thousands on me as well.
My mother's necklace had a longer chain, so the small pearl showed beneath the pearls Kane gave me.
It actually looked rather charming.
I looked at Kane with eyes full of gratitude and opened my arms to give him a big hug.
Kane hugged me back, a slight smile on his lips, affectionately kissing my hair and saying gently, "In a way, your mother is also my mother. So wanting her to witness this wedding is only right. I support all your decisions."
Once again, Kane made me feel a warmth that surprised me.
Holding him, I thought to myself, 'Mom, if you could see how happy I am now, you'd be happy for me too, wouldn't you?'
