Chapter 30
Fiona looked Athena up and down.
Athena's expression was very calm, quietly watching Fiona the whole time.
Finally, Fiona showed a cold, mocking smile.
She didn't bother with Athena, but turned to look at me instead.
"Don't tell me you've been off being some old man's mistress?"
I didn't expect her to make such an assumption about me.
I looked at her, my expression cold.
"Fiona, no matter what our relationship is, I hope you can learn to respect others."
But after hearing my words, not only did Fiona show no guilt, she exchanged glances with her two sidekicks behind her, and mocked me even harder.
"Look at yourself. Besides being someone's mistress to get money, what else can you do?"
The three of them burst into laughter, their harsh laughter making my whole body tremble.
Suddenly, their laughter stopped abruptly.
The loud, crisp sound of a slap echoed throughout the mall.
Athena pulled back her hand and looked coldly at the stunned Fiona.
"I already warned you just now. Since you're still treating my lady this way, I can only teach you a lesson."
Hearing Athena's voice, Fiona finally snapped back to reality.
She covered her face and looked at Athena in disbelief.
Then, humiliated and angry, she actually rolled up her sleeves and moved forward to fight with Athena.
But Athena wasn't going to let her get away with it.
Just as Fiona rushed toward Athena, I saw Athena reach out and grab Fiona by the throat, then deliver another slap with her other hand.
Fiona was knocked to the ground, covering her face, unable to say a word.
Seeing this scene, though I was a bit shocked, deep down I felt a secret touch of joy and satisfaction.
After all, I'd been bullied by Fiona for so long.
Athena had helped me get revenge.
"You just wait. I won't let you get away with this. I'll have my dad tear your mouth apart."
Fiona scrambled up, pointing at Athena, her voice shrill and piercing, making people's eardrums hurt.
Athena nodded calmly and said to her, "I don't think your dad can do anything to me, but you can go home and try."
Hearing Athena's words, Fiona's face turned red and pale.
Unwilling to accept it, she gritted her teeth and stomped her foot, wanting to leave, but was stopped by the mall's security guards.
The burly security guard looked quite intimidating and directly blocked Fiona's path.
Fiona frowned and shouted impatiently in a low voice, "Get out of the way."
Unexpectedly, the security guard actually picked her up, his tone very impatient.
"The mall owner just called and said you were disrespectful to our future lady. From now on, you're not allowed to set foot in this mall."
Under Fiona's disbelieving gaze, the security guard carried her and her little sidekicks and threw them right out of the mall.
The security guard then bowed respectfully to me and said, "We're very sorry, Mrs. Moretti. We apologize for frightening you."
Hearing how the security guard addressed me, I quickly waved my hands.
I thought he had mistaken me for someone else, but then I heard Athena explaining beside me, "Actually, this mall is also a Moretti Family property."
I knew Kane's business was very successful, but I didn't expect even this mall belonged to him.
I couldn't help but smile.
A strange sense of pride spread through my heart.
I turned around, about to leave with Nina, when I felt a sharp gaze stabbing at me.
I narrowed my eyes and hesitantly turned around.
Sure enough, Fiona, who had been thrown out, was glaring at me viciously through the mall's glass doors.
Nina stood in front of me, protecting me, and rolled her eyes fiercely at Fiona outside the mall.
"She knows she can't mess with you now, but she still tries. People like that are the most disgusting. Sonya, we need to stay far away from her."
Hearing Nina say this, I nodded and looked away from her.
I linked arms with Nina and continued shopping in the mall.
Before, Nina and I didn't even dare to look twice at this mall.
Now, I could browse freely inside and even buy things I liked.
This was something I wouldn't have dared to imagine before.
I felt a bit dazed.
I wondered whether meeting Kane was a good thing or a bad thing for me.
I thought it should be a good thing.
After all, the material life Kane brought me was real.
While eating ice cream I never dared to try before, I thought about this, and heard Nina's satisfied sigh beside me.
"This ice cream tastes absolutely amazing, so much better than those packaged convenience store ice creams I used to eat."
Hearing Nina's voice, I couldn't help but turn to look at her, a smile forming on my lips.
If it weren't for Kane, my friend wouldn't have had the chance to sit in the mall tasting the ice cream we'd always wanted to try.
The heavy weight in my heart finally settled, and I no longer felt any burden.
After finishing the ice cream, we went to browse other stores.
I finally gathered the courage to walk into a luxury brand store.
The salesgirls there didn't look very approachable.
As soon as I walked in, one of them looked me up and down, her eyes showing some contempt.
I didn't take it to heart and just looked at the items in the store with Nina.
I suddenly remembered I could buy a bag for the priest. I remembered his bag had a hole in it.
"Excuse me, miss, I'd like to buy a bag. Can you show me? The kind that can be used for grocery shopping."
After I said this, none of the three staff members in the store paid any attention to me.
One of them even rolled her eyes at me.
Nina was angry seeing this. She put her hands on her hips and cleared her throat.
"You won't even do business that comes to your door? Don't you see two living people standing here?"
But those shop assistants still ignored us.
One of them even took out nail clippers and started trimming her nails.
Seeing this, I felt inexplicably annoyed.
I guess they thought Nina and I were dressed too plainly and weren't worth serving.
I bit my lip and was about to speak when I heard a gentle voice.
It was a young girl who looked quite young. Her tone carried some nervousness and urgency as she nodded at me.
"If you don't mind that I just started working here, maybe I can give you some buying suggestions."
Looking at the girl's inexperienced appearance, my gaze fell on the name tag on her chest. Her name was Emily.
"Of course I don't mind, Emily. Could you please recommend a bag that a man can use to carry lots of things, and also recommend two bags suitable for my friend and me?"
Hearing me say this, the staff member trimming her nails nearby let out a cold laugh. "Stop pretending."
