Chapter 19

Chapter 19

Kane still remembered how he thought he had no way out back then.

Kane, who had already given up hope, suddenly had the woman shove her child into his arms.

The baby, who had been nursing, seemed a bit displeased.

She smacked her lips, about to cry.

The woman quickly whispered a reminder, "You can let her suck on your pinky finger to keep her from crying."

Kane glanced at the little baby in his arms.

God, he swore that was the most beautiful, most adorable baby he'd ever seen.

Especially those eyes, like green gemstones, which appeared in his dreams countless times.

Kane let out a sound of amazement.

But his movements were quick, too. He immediately put his finger in the baby girl's mouth. A tingling sensation spread from his fingertip.

Amid the thunderous knocking, the woman opened the door.

Facing the group of menacing men in black, the woman appeared quite calm.

"Good evening, gentlemen. May I help you?"

The woman's expression showed some fear and timidity, as if she was worried these people would barge into her shabby little room.

One of them craned his neck to look inside.

Kane had already taken off his outer shirt when he came in, and now he was wrapped in the woman's blanket, holding her daughter and gently soothing her.

You have to understand, this was absolutely not something Kane would normally do.

So when the rival gang members saw this scene, they didn't think much of it. One just raised his eyebrows at the others behind him.

"Let's go, he's probably not here."

It wasn't that he was careless.

After all, there was a kid in the room.

Kids are naturally resistant to strangers, and someone like Kane who naturally carried a murderous aura would definitely scare children even more.

But the young man in the room was playing with a baby who looked completely calm, so there probably wasn't any problem.

After the rival gang members left, Kane carefully returned the child in his arms to the woman.

The woman said to him, "I know it's hard to survive in these times, but you still look like a kid yourself. You should get on the right track."

As she spoke, the woman, holding her baby, turned and actually pulled out some money from a drawer.

She stuffed all the money into Kane's hand.

"This money should help you out a bit. Remember to study hard and don't do these things anymore. Your parents would be heartbroken if they knew."

Seeing the sincerity in the woman's eyes, Kane almost laughed out loud.

But in the end he said nothing. After hesitating, he still pocketed the money.

During the fight with the rival gang earlier, he had indeed lost his wallet.

He needed money to get back to his own gang's territory.

So Kane didn't refuse anymore. After taking the money, he looked at the woman and the baby in her arms with a complicated expression, then turned and left.

That baby was Sonya.

Kane worried that his identity would affect their mother-daughter life, so he would occasionally observe from the shadows.

He witnessed Sonya growing up bit by bit.

Later, due to some family matters, Kane disappeared from Sonya's life for quite a long time.

It was during that time that Sonya's family suffered a major tragedy. Her mother passed away.

Her stepfather gained custody of her, but treated her terribly.

When Kane saw the severely abused Sonya, anger surged in his heart.

He thought he wasn't the type of person who got angry.

But that day, anger took over him, almost burning away his rationality.

But then he thought of something else.

He couldn't just get rid of her stepfather directly, or Sonya would become an orphan.

Then she would end up living in a church or an orphanage.

That way Kane would have no way to get close to her, let alone marry her.

So Kane used a little scheme to find Luca and offered Sonya as payment for gambling debts.

"So when did you realize you'd fallen in love with that kid? Don't say it was from the beginning, or even I'll think you're a pervert."

James couldn't hold back his curiosity, his tone carrying a bit of gossip.

Kane tapped the ash from his cigar, his tone calm and measured.

"When I saw her hand being held by a little boy. She was probably about fifteen then."

Hearing this, James let out a long breath, looking somewhat relieved.

"So that's when you realized you were jealous of others getting close to her, that you'd fallen in love with her."

Kane nodded openly, "Yes, from that moment I knew I'd fallen in love with her."

Kane used many methods just to get Sonya.

As for what he told Sonya about going their separate ways after having a child, that was actually just to deceive her.

He knew that with Sonya's personality, once she had a child, she could never abandon it.

He just wanted Sonya to be obedient for now.

That way he could better keep her by his side in the future.

"So the one in your room right now is the person you watched grow up?"

James propped up his head, his tone carrying a smile.

Kane nodded.

"Well, looks like you got what you wished for."

With that, James raised his glass toward Kane. The two exchanged smiles and downed their whiskey in one gulp.

The atmosphere became somewhat subtle.

Both their eyes took on a hint of intoxication.

After all, drinking it straight does make you tipsy pretty quickly.

Kane took a deep drag from his cigar, then stubbed it out in the ashtray in front of him.

"You didn't call me out just to drink, did you?"

James smiled, a flash of awkwardness crossing his eyes.

"I originally called over a few models with nice figures, but looks like you don't need that now, huh."

Kane shook his head and stood up without much interest.

"I'm not interested in those women. I have a fiancée now, and I promised her I wouldn't mess around."

Besides, to be honest, Kane had no interest in any other women now.

He only wanted physical contact with Sonya.

Other women, in his eyes, were just lumps of flesh.

Seeing Kane like this, James couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement, surprise flashing in his eyes.

"Didn't expect you to be serious about this. Alright then, I won't force you. We'll go have our fun. See you tonight."

After James said goodbye, Kane headed toward his room, but on the way, he ran into someone somewhat familiar.

Sophie stood in front of Kane with a smile.

She wore a black cocktail dress and looked very elegant and beautiful.

Kane nodded indifferently, "Long time no see."

Sophie's eyes flickered with an unclear light, though her face was slightly flushed.

You could tell she had feelings for Kane, but she needed to maintain the pride of a high-society lady.

"It's been a while since we've seen each other, hasn't it? What a coincidence."
