Chapter 14 Chapter 14
Chapter 14 Chapter 14
Alessio.
The moment I felt it, the world stopped making sense. I knew there was more to this girl than I already knew.
Or maybe I didn’t know her at all.
The mark on her wrist meant something, and if I recall correctly, she never had one when I met her.
My fingers were still wrapped around Katsura’s wrist. My wolf was awake now, fully alert, pacing inside my chest like it had been waiting for this moment its whole life.
The heat under my skin wasn’t anger, it wasn’t lust… I no longer longed for her body. I wanted to understand her and why she had that mark.
That was a mate mark.
Was she my mate, or did she find one when she left the mansion?
Her eyes were wide, and she was frightened. She looked like prey that had wandered into the lion’s den without knowing it. I could see her chest rise and fall even when she had her hair covering a good part of it.
Then the door burst open without warning.
“Alessio!”
The sound snapped me out of my thoughts.
I turned sharply, already irritated. Helen stood at the doorway, her face red with anger, her eyes were on me with curiosity filled in them. She didn’t bother knocking, as usual. She never did anyway, she acted like this place already belonged to her.
I decided not to snatch Katsura's wrist because that was what I wanted to do before Helen barged in.
She immediately tried to get up from the bathtub and her hand was still hidden behind her, her body angling away from me as if she could disappear into the stone walls. I noticed how she trembled, she would have fallen if not for how fast I held her waist.
I pulled her closer till she could feel my groin.
“We are not done with this,” I whispered into her ear.
She let out a soft gasp when I squeezed her ass just to satisfy the sight of such a round perfect ass.
“What do you want?” I asked coldly. “And how many times do I have to tell you to knock?”
Helen ignored me. Now, her rage was capable of lighting the whole mansion on fire.
Her gaze moved straight to Katsura. Her lips curled into something that wasn’t quite a smile.
“You,” she said sharply. “Leave us. I need to talk to him.”
Katsura glanced at me, unsure of what to do and I liked that. She had learned the hard way not to take orders into her hands.
“Say it here,” I replied. “Whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of her.”
Helen scoffed as she shook her head. Her hand went to her stomach, rubbing it slowly, and deliberately. It was not an innocent gesture… It was calculated.
“Tell me, Alessio,” she said softly. “Would you choose her over your pup?”
The room went silent, I wasn’t sure if Katsura was aware that Helen was pregnant, but she didn’t act surprised either.
Even the steam from the bath felt like it froze mid-air.
My wolf growled low in my chest.
Katsura’s head snapped up, she wanted me to speak, she wanted to hear if I would pick her over my pup. Her eyes fell with disappointment when she saw how unyielding I was to say something.
I didn’t answer immediately, not because I had no answer but Helen had no right to ask a question like that.
Silence stretched between us like a blade with Katsura having her arms around her body and Helen throwing an annoying glare at her.
Then I spoke.
“Katsura,” I said. “Leave.”
She stared at me like she hadn’t heard right.
“M… my lord?” she whispered.
My lord?
Did she just call me that? My wolf stirred in excitement when it heard that. Now, she knows I own her.
“Now,” I repeated.
A tear broke from her eyes, maybe I hurt her by asking her out of the room or was she in disbelief?
I turned away, refusing to look at her.
She stepped toward the door slowly, like she didn’t want to leave anymore. I watched her back, the way her shoulders were drawn inward, how small she looked… She looked very pitiful.
Just as her fingers brushed the door handle… Helen charged toward her.
She grabbed Katsura’s arm and yanked her back hard.
Katsura cried out softly, stumbling over the wash hand sink.
I took a step forward, fury flaring from inside, but Helen leaned in close to her ear and whispered.
“You have no place here,” Helen said quietly, venom dripping from every word. “It’s either you succeed in escaping… or you die.”
“But I’m sure it’ll be the latter,” she let out a dry sickening laugh.
Katsura’s face went pale, she refused to raise her eyes to me.
Helen released her as if she were nothing, pushing her away.
Katsura didn’t look back at me. She rushed out of the room, the door closing behind her with a thud that made me tighten my fists in anger.
The moment she was gone, I let out a frustrated sigh.
I turned slowly to Helen.
She reached into her bag and pulled out a folded paper. She walked toward me and placed it on the table like it was a weapon, and I was meant to be scared.
“I’m six weeks gone,” she said. “The pack doctor confirmed it.”
I didn’t touch the paper, I simply stared at it like it was poison.
“The doctor suggested,” she continued, “that you should accompany me to important appointments. As the Alpha and the father to my pup.”
I picked up the paper. I squeezed it into a small ball and tossed it aside.
“Janiece will take you,” I said flatly.
Helen’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“What?”
“You heard me.”
Her face flushed with anger. “I am carrying your pup! I will be Luna. You can’t keep treating me like…”
“You are not Luna,” I cut in. “And you will not raise your voice in my chambers.”
She laughed sharply, but there was hysteria under it.
“You think you can humiliate me?” she snapped. “In front of a lowly omega, you humiliate me?”
“Every time she runs off you go after her like I don’t have whatever she has on her body,” she yelled, her hands moving across her body seductively.
I stepped closer, my eyes on her.
Her voice faltered for a second, but she lifted her chin stubbornly.
“I have rights,” she said. “If you don’t do right by me, I swear I will terminate this pregnancy.”
The word hit me like a trigger… she wouldn’t dare do that.
Would she?
My wolf exploded, and it growled aggressively.
Before she could react, my hand was around her neck, lifting her slightly off the ground. Her eyes flew wide, hands clawing at my wrist.
I leaned in close, my voice low and lethal.
“Listen to me very carefully,” I said. “The day I look for my pup and do not see him… is the day my men will feast on your body.”
“Please…” she begged when she knew she couldn’t even fight off my hands.
Terror that I haven’t seen before filled her eyes.
I tightened my grip just enough for her to understand.
“Do not ever threaten my blood again,” I warned. “Or you won’t live long enough to regret it.”
I released her.
She collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath.
I turned away., but stopped immediately.
“Janiece will take you to the hospital,” I said calmly.
