Chapter 26 26
Odette's Pov
My fingers wouldn't stop shaking.
This couldn't be. It can't be real.
I heard Aaron stir beside me and stiffened. Did he see me wake up? Did he hear me scream?
“Darling?” He said in a hoarse voice that caressed my skin.
He repeated the nickname and leaned in to hug me from behind.
“Good morning,” he pressed a soft kiss to my neck before he buried his face in it. “Are you alright?”
My lips wobbled. I couldn't speak. I'd ruin everything. I ….
There was a soft knock from the door and I thanked the Moon Goddess.
While Aaron answered the door, I pulled away from his arms and dashed to the bathroom.
I shut the door behind me and crumpled to the tiled floor.
The Witch of Delacroix was… me?
“Odette?” I heard Aaron knock behind me.
I couldn't answer. My cracked voice would give it away.
“Odette?!” Aaron's voice took a stern tone and I could feel my hand trembling.
When I feared the door would be broken down, I finally answered.
“I'm fine. I…” I looked around the room for any clues. “... need the maids for my… lady things.”
“Oh.”
I could almost imagine the look on his face so I opened the door to sneak a peek at him.
He was still standing on the threshold but his gaze was focused on the floor.
“Aaron, are you okay?” I tried to reach for him but he took a step back.
“Yes…” his voice sounded restrained. “I'll see him later.”
I watched him leave the room and laughed. So he was embarrassed.
A few minutes later, the maids arrived and prepared the bath for me.
I laid in the bathtub filled with hot water, thinking about what the woman from my dreams had said.
Was it truly me?
Was she wrong?
For some reason, the hot water was soothing and relaxed my tense muscles until it felt like a massage and in a moment it made me fall into a deep sleep.
The soft satin sheets rubbed against my skin and I realized I wasn't in the bathtub anymore.
My heart lodged in my throat as I looked around the room. We were still in our bedroom but… how did I get here?
I jolted quickly on the bed and lifted the sheet covering my body. The sight before me made me gasp.
I WAS ONLY WEARING A TOWEL!
But I was taking a bath and I fell asleep and now I was here. How?
A sound made me look to my left.
Aaron was sitting in a chair with a glass of wine in his hand as he studied me with those extraordinary eyes.
He was the only one who could have brought me here, which meant that he had seen me naked.
Heat crept it's way up to my cheeks and I grabbed the sheets around me closer as if they would protect me from his gaze or change the fact that he had seen me naked.
“Did… did you bring me here?” I stuttered terribly.
He put his glass down, rose to his feet and approached me.
“Would you prefer someone else did?” he asked standing at the end of the bed towering over me.
His question sent butterflies to my stomach. This feeling again? I didn't know what it was but I liked it because Aaron was the only one who made me feel this way.
I looked at him and knew what the look in his eyes meant.
I climbed down from the bed still gripping the sheets around my body and tried to get away from him, but he grabbed my arm and pulled me in for a hug.
I gasped and dropped the sheets, standing there in only a towel while he held me so tight I couldn't even breathe.
“Trying to run?” he breathed into my neck as his arms trembled slightly.
“N - No.” It came out as a soft stutter. God, the things he does to me needs to be studied.
Aaron kissed my cheek before pulling away. “Ill send the maids to … um… for your lady things.”
He was still embarrassed from earlier.
I stood on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “Thank you.”
Just then like a bashful teenager, my husband skipped out of the room while touching his cheek.
A few minutes later, two maids walked into the room. “My lady, we are here to help you with your…”
The Elderly one cleared her throat while the younger maid just blushed.
“I’m alright,” I assured them with a smile. “Just help me prepare for the party.”
The maids were kind enough to show me several beautiful dresses to choose from.
Most of the dresses showed a lot of cleavage which I didn't like, but it seemed to be the kind of dresses they wore in this pack.
I chose the least revealing one, a white off-the-shoulder dress with a v neckline that showed only a little cleavage.
The maids styled my hair up beautifully, only letting a few strands of hair fall at the sides of my face.
I put some jewelry on, beautiful diamond earrings with a matching bracelet and a ring.
I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before the maids led me to where the venue of the party.
My eyes scanned the extravagant hall as I walked in.
Alpha's and their Luna's in fancy clothes, eating, dancing, chatting chatting and drinking filled the hall, their voices and laughter mixed with the music.
A perfectly polished floor, turquoise rugs with matching curtains, dining tables and chairs. Two long tables stood at the back of the room where many different grand dishes and drinks were served.
I felt a hand around my waist, turning my head until I found Aaron next to me. His eyes were dark, just like the suit of armour he was wearing and his hair. He looked ethereally handsome but he seemed to be in a grim mood.
Something was clearly wrong… but what is it?
I gathered some courage and asked. “How do I look?”
I wasn't brave enough to ask him about his foul mood. It might worsen things.
I waited for Aaron's reply with bated breath. He paused, looked at me, and that was when it happened.
His gaze softened as his eyes traveled the length of my body, lingering a little longer on my chest before traveling back up to my face.
“Do you want me to answer politely or honestly?” he asked in a serious tone.
“Honestly.” I whispered.
He leaned forward to whisper his reply in my ear but didn't get the chance to because someone spoke from behind him.
“I see you have come.” Alpha Ivan walked toward us not dressed as fancy as royalties like to dress, but he still looked good.
“You look very angelic in white, Luna Odette,” he said as he took my hand and kissed it.
“Thank you, Lord Alpha.” I responded.
“May I have a dance?” he asked, stretching his hand toward me.
I glanced at Aaron and he gave me a reassuring smile.
I took the Alpha Ivan's hand, and he led me to the dance floor.
“I never thought fragile women were Scar's type,” he smiled as he gave me a decent twirl.
I never got described as fragile, but a man with females who were warriors would definitely think of me as fragile.
“Why do you call my husband ‘Scar’?” I asked, ignoring his remark.
“It's not my story to tell.” He grinned as he leaned forward.
“But somehow, you know the story.” I held his gaze and he leaned back.
“Impressive. Didn't take you to be the type who bites back.” He chuckled softly and gave me another twirl.
I cleared my throat to show my authority. “Well, I am Luna.”
“And you will make a great one but I cannot spill this story.” He grinned.
I cursed under my breath and looked away. That was when I noticed Aaron dancing with Astrid, and I completely forgot what Alpha Ivan just told me.
She blushed as she said something to him while batting her full, dark lashes seductively.
Alpha Ivan chuckled, “You're pretty possessive about your mate.”
I wasn't listening to him anymore because Astrid was leading Aaron somewhere secluded outside of the hall.
“I need to speak with my husband. Will you excuse me, Lord Alpha?” I said.
He gave me a knowing smile and dropped my hand. I rushed through the dancing crowd and proceeded out of the hall. Where did she take him? Looking through the halls, I couldn't find them.
“My lady, are you lost?” A maid asked. She looked at me like I was a child who was genuinely lost and I was — lost, not the child.
I didn't know where to go or what to do.
“I can show you the way…” she offered, and then gestured with her hand, “the party is that way.”
I shook my head. “Show me to the garden instead.”
“Alright, ma'am. This way.” She said politely.
I exhaled a shuddering breath and followed her.
