Chapter 50 The Hospital Decision

Chapter 50 The Hospital Decision

Luna's POV
I stood in Damien's penthouse staring at my phone like it might explode.
Sarah was dying and the hybrid pregnancy was killing her exactly like Vivienne said it would, and now she was asking for me specifically because of course she was.
This was always part of the plan.
Vivienne had engineered a scenario where I had to choose between my principles and a life, where either choice damaged me in different ways.
"I'm coming with you," Damien said, already grabbing his coat.
"I didn't ask—"
"I don't care. You're not walking into this alone." His tone left no room for argument.
I didn't argue because honestly I needed him there even if I hated admitting it.
The drive to the hospital was silent and tense, my mind cycling through possibilities and searching for options that didn't exist.
Help Sarah and play into Vivienne's trap, or let her die and live with that choice forever.
We arrived at County General and found Marcus in the waiting room looking like he'd aged ten years in a week.
His Alpha composure had completely shattered, replaced by raw fear and desperation.
He saw me and stood up immediately. "Luna. Thank god you came."
"What happened?"
"The pregnancy is failing. The doctors can't stop it." His voice cracked. "They said we need you. That you're the only one who can help."
A doctor appeared, older woman with tired eyes. "Ms. Reeves? I'm Dr. Chen. We spoke on the phone."
"What's Sarah's condition?"
"Critical and deteriorating rapidly." She pulled up charts on a tablet. "The pregnancy is rejecting her body at a cellular level. Her organs are shutting down one by one."
"What about the baby?"
"In severe distress. Heart rate dropping. If we can't stabilize the mother, we'll lose them both within hours."
Marcus made a sound like he'd been punched.
"You've tried supernatural healing?" I asked.
"Standard protocols yes, but the hybrid nature of the pregnancy requires something more specific." Dr. Chen looked at me directly. "We need Blessed Wolf healing energy applied directly to both mother and child. It's the only thing that can stabilize this situation."
There it was, the confirmation I'd been dreading.
"What does that involve exactly?"
"You would need to channel your healing energy into Sarah for an extended period, several hours at least. It's dangerous for the healer because you're essentially sharing your life force." She paused. "There's risk of permanent damage to your own wolf."
My stomach dropped. "How much risk?"
"Unknown. Blessed Wolf healing is rare enough that we don't have extensive data. But channeling that much energy into a hybrid pregnancy could drain you significantly."
Marcus was on his knees suddenly, right there in the hospital corridor with doctors and nurses walking past.
"Please," he begged, his pride completely abandoned. "I know I don't deserve to ask you for anything. I know I destroyed us and hurt you and made your life hell. But please don't let her die."
"Marcus—"
"The baby is innocent. Sarah was manipulated just like I was." Tears ran down his face. "Please Luna. I'm begging you."
I looked at him kneeling there, this man who'd spent years making me feel worthless, now begging for mercy he didn't deserve.
But he was right about one thing, the baby hadn't chosen any of this.
And Sarah, for all her cruelty and manipulation, was a pawn in Vivienne's game just like Marcus was.
I looked at Damien, searching for guidance I knew he couldn't give me.
This decision was mine alone and we both knew it.
"Luna." A small voice from down the hallway.
I turned and saw Theo walking toward us, still in his pajamas.
"Theo? What are you doing here? You're supposed to be at the penthouse with Catherine."
"I snuck out. Took a cab." He reached my side and looked up at me with those too-old eyes. "I needed to tell you something."
"Baby, this isn't a good time—"
"I dreamed about this." His voice was quiet but certain. "About you being here at the hospital with Sarah dying. About you having to make a choice."
My chest tightened. "What happened in the dream?"
"You helped her. You used your healing power and saved both of them." He grabbed my hand. "And after that, something important changed. Something big that needed to happen."
"What changed?"
"I don't know exactly. The dream got fuzzy after the healing part." He squeezed my hand. "But my wolf says it matters. That this decision is important for reasons we can't see yet."
I knelt down to his level. "You think I should help her."
"I think you should do what your wolf tells you to do." His expression was serious. "And I think your wolf already knows the answer."
He was right.
My wolf had been restless since the hospital called, pushing at me, urging me toward something I'd been resisting.
Not because helping Sarah was wrong, but because accepting that I needed to help felt like surrendering to Vivienne's manipulation.
But maybe that was my pride talking instead of my instincts.
I stood up and looked at Dr. Chen. "Take me to her."
Marcus let out a sob of relief.
Damien touched my shoulder. "Are you sure?"
"No. But I'm doing it anyway." I looked at him. "My son's prophetic dreams haven't been wrong yet. If he says this matters, then it matters."
"I'm staying with you the entire time."
"I know."
We followed Dr. Chen down the hallway toward Sarah's room, and I realized that Theo had just made the decision for me.
Not by telling me what to do, but by confirming what my wolf had been trying to say all along.
This moment mattered in ways I couldn't understand yet, and sometimes you had to trust your instincts even when logic said otherwise.
