Chapter 94 Chapter 94

Chapter 94 Chapter 94
Kael

I stretched to my full height, moving with lethal grace as I walked into the castle. A number of soldiers approached me, but I ended them with a smash to the stone walls or a snap of their necks, watching as they fell unceremoniously to the ground in a heap. I hated that we were sneaking in, but we couldn't afford to draw attention to myself just yet.

I made my way to the king's chambers. Sure enough, Lord Mortis was there, as the sick sounds of a woman's moans filled the hallways, grating on my nerves. Slamming the door open with a kick of my leg, I barged into the place, my gaze immediately moving to the bed chambers where Lord Mortis lay, with a woman sitting on top of him.

He immediately erupted in fury at my intrusion.

"Who dares interrupt me...!?" he trailed off, as his gaze settled on me, his face turning to ash.

The woman was immediately pushed away, and she would have fallen to the ground if it wasn't for her quick reflexes.

"Your Majesty... This, this can't be!" he stuttered out, before hastily covering his nakedness with the sheets.

The lady turned to me, the same shock reflected in her eyes as she saw who it was. I grimaced in disgust when I saw it was Nymeria.

"Well, well, well... What do we have here?" I moved around, my voice taking on a leisurely note, a sharp contrast to the rage boiling in me.

"An imposter in my chambers and on my bed. Who let you in here?"

"How... How did you get in!?" he rushed out, panicked. "The soldiers should have stopped you!"

I let out a sardonic smile at that statement.

"You forget this is my castle, which I built with my hands, brick by brick. You think I don't know a million ways to access my own castle?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.

The shock on his face immediately transformed to fury as he stumbled out of the bed, his nude self on display for everyone to see. "You should have stayed dead!" he seethed through clenched teeth, his eyes blazing with fury. "I should have killed you the moment I had the chance!"

My voice dropped, taking on a mocking tone as I glared at him.

"Too late for that now."

Mortis assumed a full shift then, lunging at me in attack. I instantly gripped one of his forelegs, raising him high in the air before slamming him against the wall. Hard.

He yelped, and Nymeria screamed, the shocked sound bouncing off the walls. A tortured whimper ripped from Mortis mouth, accompanied by blood.

"Revert back. Now," I commanded with a growl, infusing my beast into my voice, my aura suffocating, feeling my vision change color as I glared at him.

The beast in my hands hitched in fear before scurrying away, leaving the male instead. It moaned in pain, blood dripping from his nose and mouth now. The sight was oddly satisfying and I ate it up like a ravenous animal.

"You know you're a very stupid, cowardly person, right?" I asked as I pressed him against the wall, watching as his legs failed him in panic. "Using my mate to try to kill me, knowing you wouldn't succeed on your own. Just like your father."

Mortis's struggles ceased instantly, his eyes going wide. "Y-you knew?" he stuttered, coughing violently afterwards.

"Isn't it what this is about?" I gritted through clenched teeth, my hold tightening on him.

"The man who tried to steal the kingdom from my family while acting as an ally, only for him to turn around and torture me in the most unimaginable ways when he discovered I didn't die."

I grinned, pressing my face against his as I watched the fear in his eyes, drinking in the sight.

"The man I killed in the most gruesome ways possible. Ripped out his spine. Enjoyed every moment of it."

Mortis blanched, trying to scratch my face with his claws, but I swerved away.

"I know you swore revenge, and I let you have the upper hand. You think you played me? Think I didn't see through all your fake acts of devotion? I was waiting for you to reveal yourself, particularly because I knew you wouldn't succeed."

Letting him go, I watched as he dropped to the ground, struggled to stand to his feet, and failed woefully. Delivering a kick to his stomach, my beast relished in the sight of him groaning in pain.

"Guess what? I'm not as petty as you." With a huff, I added, "I don't use backhanded ways to get people. I'll give you a head start. Gather as many men as you can, as many as you can lay your hands on, and we'll fight again, fair and square. I'm going to make you pay for your betrayal, your lies, and most importantly, for hurting my mate."

I stepped away, walking towards the door before stopping and turning to him. I let my lips stretch into another sadistic smile, my body trembling with rage.

"Get ready, Mortis. You're going to need all the help you can get."

With that, I strode out of the chambers. A number of soldiers were already outside, poised for attack, but froze when they saw me, their faces filled with disbelief as they made way for me. They must have thought they had seen a ghost.

Eiran joined me alongside Alfred as we approached the outskirts of the palace.

"How many loyal men have I got?" I asked Alfred, keeping my gaze trained forward, my steps measured.

"300 soldiers, Your Majesty," he answered, falling into step with me. "I kept them hidden and sneaked them off on the night of your attack to the mountains. I'll provide a soldier to take you there."

"Good," I said as we approached the gates. "I'll go meet them there."

"Thank you, Your Majesty," Alfred said suddenly, and I abruptly stopped, turning to look at him. His head was bowed, almost lowered to his knees, and I saw his body tremble.

"Thank you for refusing to die. Thank you for coming back to us." He uttered, his usually calm voice trembling.

I watched him for a moment, noting the relief in his voice. I had only been away for months, and things had gone haywire with Mortis at the helm of affairs. The urge to run back there and tear Lord Mortis apart was maddening, but it wouldn't offer the same satisfaction as having all of those who sided with him in one place.

To Alfred, I said, "Thank you for believing in me and staying true. I'll be leaving now."

I said, walking out with Eiran. And when I return, it would be to kill them all.
