Chapter 107 Chapter 107
Aira.
Before me, Kael was holding the bear meters from the ground, the latter slumped, blood dripping from its mouth.
"Woah..." I muttered without thinking, and Kael discarded the dead animal, a mild look of disgust flashing in his eyes. "That's so cool," I added when he locked eyes with me. Kael didn't look too pleased.
"That's the end of hide and seek, young lady," he announced, his voice firm and devoid of any warmth. I flinched, but stood to my feet, and he walked towards me, carrying me and placing me on his shoulders, and that was how he took me back to the cottage.
"Are you hurt?" I asked when he set me down, closing the door behind us. He shook his head, but I inspected his body anyway to make sure there wasn't any scratch. When I didn't see anything, I let out a sigh of relief.
"See? I told you I was fine. But can you hang on for a bit? I need us to get something we'll eat," he said, and I nodded, giving him a small smile. Though I didn't say it, I was still shaken by what happened.
Kael must have suspected it, as he leaned in to kiss my lips, letting his touch linger for longer than necessary. "Don't worry, I'll be careful," he groaned against them, before turning around and walking out of the cottage.
Left alone, I decided to go and prepare the ingredients we would need to make a good pot of soup, as well as pasta. Kael returned a while later with a perfectly skinned and gutted deer, and together, we prepared a meal.
The busy, yet tender moment, reminded me of times with my mother, when we would work together to make meals, and it filled me with so much adoration for him. In a couple of hours, an array of dishes was ready, and we sat together to eat, occasionally feeding each other and laughing at each other's jokes.
We were soon full from eating, and Kael brought my fingers to his lips, gently kissing my knuckles one after the other, sending soft jolts of sensation through my entire body. Meeting my gaze, he let out a crooked smile, and my cheeks burned as I instantly averted my gaze.
He turned me back to face him, and before I knew it, his lips met mine in a gentle, yet firm kiss. I gasped softly, and he used the opportunity to slide his tongue into my mouth, deepening the kiss.
His hands immediately wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer as he carefully avoided the empty plates around us. I fluttered my eyes closed, resting my hands on his shoulders. He nibbled on my lower lip, swallowing my moans and drawing more sounds from me.
My body instantly melted, desire swimming through my veins, and I wanted so much more. But before we could take it any further, he broke the kiss, resting his forehead on mine instead. I whined, wanting more of that bodily contact, and he let out a sound that sounded suspiciously close to being a chuckle.
"Patience, love. It's going to be a full moon tonight. You'll get what you want then, my little lady," he muttered, running his fingers across my neck. "Okay..." I whispered, sinking into his embrace while he wrapped his hands around my body, resting his chin on my hair.
"What do we do now?" I asked quietly, after a while. "We talk. Let's talk about everything. Your plans once we return to the castle. Anything at all," he growled, gently caressing my back.
I looked up at him, a tiny smile on my face. "How about you tell me about your plans once we're through with the mating ritual?" I asked, and he pressed a kiss to my cheek, a hand absentmindedly stroking me as he thought of what to say.
Eventually, he opened his mouth and began speaking while I listened with rapt attention. Spending the afternoon listening to Kael talk was truly magnificent. Despite how little he let on, he was truly knowledgeable about a lot of things and had lofty plans for the kingdom now that he a spark had returned into his life.
One of the major things on his agenda was definitely repairing the relationship between werewolves and humans, as he had admitted that the reason why the feud had lasted so long was because of his disinterest in previous decades. "I don't want that to linger on anymore. Especially since my mate now is human. It wouldn't be nice," he had said, staring into my eyes.
"That's rather thoughtful. Thank you very much, Kael," I whispered, my throat clogged up with emotions. It would mean the world if he was able to do that. He nodded, pressing a soft kiss to my nose and I felt the rampage of butterflies in my belly once more.
Regardless of the splendid afternoon, nighttime was fast approaching, and I started to realize I was getting nervous. Which was so strange to me because I could have sworn I was ready to finally be marked and bonded to him.
Anyway, around that time, Kael disappeared from the living space, and I thought he would be gone for a little while. But when he wasn't forthcoming, I went to look for him. I found him in another room, setting up a bath.
I froze, stunned at the sight in front of me. The great, mighty Kael, fussing over what fragrant oil and soap would be best for an intimate wash was mind-boggling to say the least.
He eventually looked away from the array of fragrant oils in front of him, his gaze settling on me, and a tiny smile appeared on his face. I stepped away from the threshold, walking quietly into the room.
"What are you doing?" I asked, even though I could see exactly what was going on. My heart had begun to pound, my cheeks growing warm.
"I'm preparing a bath," he answered without missing a beat, going ahead to turn on candles.
"I see. Is that for us?"
"Yes, but for you especially. You seemed rather nervous for tonight, and I wanted to do this to ease your anxieties," he answered, glancing at me.
"Oh..." I trailed off, not really knowing what to say. Then, he cocked his head to the side, watching me with that all-seeing gaze of his.
"Come on, get in the water."
