Chapter 84: Eighty-four
Kyle
My hands were trembling. Ever since I left the castle, my entire body has been shaking.
Would I really be able to do this? Betray my kingdom... Betray everything I serve, everything I believe in. All for the very person that I serve, the person I believe in, the person I love.
Could I really do that?
What was I thinking? I was already doing it. I was already close to a hidden tonic shop. There was no time to regret my actions or turn back.
I had already promised my lady that I would do everything for her. Including this. And I very well knew why she wouldn't want to give birth to the next heir.
She was human, damn it!
And she wanted to remain human. She didn't want to turn into us... me... It was still clear that she held resentment for the Lycan kind.
Abortion tonics were not exactly illegal. From time to time, people would come to order them. Not everyone had to bear the heir to the throne who was important and ending their life in a womb was a sin.
And also, this particular shop didn't only sell abortion tonics. They also sold other things like poison and opium.
I reached the shop. There were other similar shops around this part of the night market. And the other similar shops were more crowded than this particular one. But I knew that the products sold from here were higher in quality.
I stepped into the shop. There were a lot of eccentric looking things placed on the shelves with potions in several unique bottle shapes.
"Welcome..." A freaky voice called out to me.
I located the owner of the voice at my far right.
"I want an abortion tonic." I said straightforwardly.
The owner of the shop, who was a very old man with a hunched back, didn't show any hint of surprise to my demise. He only nodded and walked over to a particular shelf, then picked up a small bottle.
I followed him to the front desk of the shop as he placed the bottle on it and went around the counter.
"What's the dosage?" I asked him, looking at the bottle.
"It's a one-time dosage. It's very bitter so it is better to mix it inside food and eat it. But if the person can hear the taste, they can take it as it is." The old man instructed.
I nodded.
"The person is human. Will taking this option have any side effects on her health?" I thought to ask.
Her Majesty was human. Her body constitution could be very weak. If taking this tonic could prove to be fatal to her health... So many things would go wrong.
"A human, you say..." The old man drawled, going through his drawers, searching for something. "I don't think that should matter. As far as it is a Lycan child inside her womb, taking this would end the child's life. There should be no adverse effects to her life as long as she is in good condition before and after taking the potion."
I began to hesitate. What kind of condition could be defined as 'good condition'? There were sometimes when her Majesty could hold her own and bear with stress for hours.
Other times, her body would be intensely weakened and she would pass out. Was she in a good condition enough to take an abortion potion?
"Alright." The old man said, then he called the price for the potion.
I stuck my hand into my pocket and brought out a bag of coins. I began to count the coins, when a voice said, "What are you doing here?"
I didn't think I was the one being talked to, so I didn't respond. But in a second, I felt a presence behind me which made me to turn around and position myself for an attack.
I stopped when I saw that it was only Thomas. He was wearing a confused and annoyed look on his face as he looked at me.
I frowned at him and said, "Walk away."
The kid did otherwise as he circled me, then his eyes set on the abortion potion sitting on the counter. I quickly grabbed it in my hand and shoved it inside my pocket, but he had already seen what it was.
"You! What is that!?" he demanded with a loud voice.
I narrowed my at him fiercely and through gritted teeth, I said, "Mind your business."
Then I slammed the coins I had counted on the counter and turned to leave. But Thomas jumped in front of me to stop me.
"You traitor! Who are you buying that for?! I hope it's not for the-"
I quickly covered his mouth with my hand to stop him from saying anything else. Then I glanced back at the old man to check if he had heard what Thomas said, but the old man was no longer standing behind the counter.
In fact, I couldn't find him in the shop anymore. But no matter. That shouldn't be something I should concern myself with for the meantime.
Thomas struggled against me, trying to get my hand off his mouth but I didn't let go of him. I held onto both of his hands with one of my own and forced him out of the shop. But Thomas didn't stop struggling.
I pushed him until we found ourselves in a secluded area. I pinned him against the wall with his hands above his head, finally removing my hand from his mouth.
"You motherfucker! How dare you! I'll-"
"Shut up." I cut him off. My voice was deep and threatening. Thomas had no choice but to finally clamp his mouth shut and keep still.
"You will not tell anyone what you saw me doing. You will not talk of whatever you think you saw tonight. Everything dies here." I said to him.
His eyes flashed with betrayal.
"How could you? You're willing to betray your king and your kingdom for that-"
"Speak with respect." I cut him off once again.
Thomas looked like he was close to biting off his own tongue.
"This is necessary. And she has no obligation to turn into one of us if she doesn't want to." I defended my lady.
"No obligation? Then why did she make herself queen!?" Thomas fired back.
I didn't know what to say. I didn't know the things that were going through her mind, so couldn't personally speak on her behalf. But I would defend her actions.
"If she believes that it is appropriate to do such a thing, then it is appropriate." I said.
Thomas's eyes narrowed into thin slits as he said, "You lovestruck fool..."
