Chapter 78 House Visit and Roses

I couldn’t blame him for the way he’d reacted to everything. I’d messed up badly.
I should have known better than to leave the house when I knew Leo would need me for his important appointment.
It had been five days since Elijah said those words to me and I couldn’t get them out of my mind no matter how hard I tried.
It was like he was right in front of me, repeating them over and over again when all I wanted was to forget them completely and move on.
I felt so terrible about what happened that I kept apologizing to Leo when he came to look for me in my room. I couldn’t go to his room for fear that Elijah would catch me there and he wouldn’t be happy about it at all.
Hazel said she’d speak to him on my behalf but I didn’t want her to do that. It would seem like I’d sent her to him and I didn’t want any more trouble than I had already gotten myself into.
All I did was go for practice in the mornings and come back into my room and stay locked up all day like some kind of prisoner.
To make matters worse, I’d been in my room when I’d heard a knock on the door.
I knew Leo didn’t knock—he just entered like he owned the room, which I was completely fine with—so I’d hoped that it was Elijah coming to finally talk to me.
My mood dropped considerably when I saw that it was just a guard standing there.
“There’s someone here to see you.”
I was so confused. Who did I know in this pack that would want to see me?
The only people I knew were in this house.
I got up from the bed and followed the guard out, still thinking about who the hell could be here to see me.
Or maybe they were from my former pack. It felt so good to say that and feel calming knowing I had somewhere else to call home now.
I cursed under my breath when I looked over the stair railing and I saw Luke standing there in the entrance hall.
What the hell was he doing here? Was he trying to get me kicked out from the pack entirely?
I quickly rushed down the stairs to get to him since he was standing just a few feet from Elijah’s office door. The last thing I wanted was for Elijah to come out and see Luke standing there or anywhere in the house for that matter.
I’ll just take him outside and tell him not to come here again. I mean, why would he come here in the first place? We had only spoken once and that didn’t make us friends according to my books, so why was he here now?
“Luke, what are you doing here?”
He turned around and smiled widely, pulling me in for a hug before I could even protest.
“Hey, sorry for barging in like this. I wanted to give you this.”
He produced a beautiful bouquet of roses from behind his back and gave them to me.
I didn’t want to take them at first but he waved them in front of my face persistently, so I just stretched my hand out to take them reluctantly.
“Thank—”
He didn’t let me complete my sentence before pulling me in for another hug that I definitely didn’t want.
The door to Elijah’s office opened at that exact moment and I knew that things had already been messed up beyond any repair.
I didn’t even bother pushing Luke away immediately because I knew that Elijah had already seen everything that had happened and it’ll only look more suspicious.
Luke let me go and Elijah stood there with Hazel and Aiden behind him, all looking at me with completely different expressions on their faces.
Hazel with her mouth hanging wide open in shock.
Aiden with a huge smile on his face like this was the most entertaining thing he’d seen all week.
And Elijah… looking like he had been punched directly in the stomach.
Luke noticed their presence and turned around to greet them cheerfully, oblivious to the tension.
“Alpha, Beta, Gamma. Good day to you all.”
I don’t think he knows how to read the room at all because if he did, he would know better than to give out pleasantries at this particular point.
Hazel’s shocked expression turned to a deep frown.
“What are you doing here?” she asked him sharply.
“I came to see Adri.”
How many times did I tell him not to call me that?
As soon as he used that nickname, Elijah looked at me like I had completely betrayed him. Then he laughed bitterly.
It looked like it physically hurt him to laugh, then he walked away without another word to anyone.
“Nice going, wolf. You have just successfully screwed up everything.” Aiden tapped my shoulder and laughed as he walked past me.
Hazel was the one who didn’t leave and she stormed toward Luke with fury in her eyes.
“This is the Alpha’s house. You can’t just come here as you like whenever you want.”
“But I came to see my friend.” He pointed at me innocently.
Was he trying to get me killed?
Hazel looked at me, her angry eyes scanning my face for some kind of answer or explanation.
“Fix this mess.” She pointed at him and walked away angrily.
I didn’t even know what to say when I was left alone with him standing there. Just when I thought things couldn’t possibly get any worse, they go ahead and get even worse.
Why would Luke even think of coming here in the first place? This was the Alpha’s house and he couldn’t just come here unless he had business with the Alpha or someone who lived here permanently.
I was just a visitor and since he lived in this pack as he said he had, he should have known better than to do a thing like this.
“Why is everyone acting like your parents?” He laughed, completely missing the point.
This guy was trying to compromise the little peace I’d managed to get in this place. First it was Hannah, then Lisa and now him.
Why couldn’t everyone just let me be?
“Adri—”
“Don’t call me that, goddamnit!”
I didn’t know where the outburst came from but I knew that it just came out and my heart was beating so fast I could hear it pounding in my ears.
He stepped back a bit, clearly surprised by my reaction.
“Luke, listen, I know you’re trying to be nice but you coming here and giving me flowers is going way too far. This isn’t my house, I live with the Alpha and you have to try to respect that, so please, don’t do this again. And please, don’t call me by nicknames. My name is Adriana to you and nothing else.”
He blinked a couple of times before he nodded slowly in understanding.
“That’s okay. Sorry for overstepping my boundaries.”
I nodded. I just wanted him to leave as quickly as possible.
“That’s okay. And please, take these back. I can’t accept these flowers.”
I gave him back the bouquet. I didn’t even wait for him to leave the house. As soon as he collected them from me, I ran back upstairs quickly, completely missing Hannah who was standing by the corner, hearing everything that had been said.
