Chapter 44 Bed Hair
ADRIANA
Being in this room for almost a week straight proved harder than I imagined. I thought I would just sleep and pass the time but I’d gotten tired of sleeping.
It had gotten to the point where I wasn’t even sleeping anymore. I just spent the entire night staring up at the ceiling thinking. Thankfully, food had been brought to me and I occasionally stepped out to spend time with Leo since I couldn’t avoid that.
He was the only one who made things better for me these days and seeing him was like seeing my happiness personified.
I stepped into the shower to make myself presentable. It’s not like I hadn’t showered but I didn’t exactly look like a Disney princess since all my time was spent on the bed.
My hair had grown out and I needed a haircut which I knew I couldn’t get now so I just packed it up in a bun and moved on with my routine.
Next were my legs. Any more hair and I’d be competing with Bigfoot. I took my time to get everything clean, then I did the same for other areas.
I’d missed so much training and I suddenly felt out of shape. I’ll have to spend extra days at the gym after this.
I’d had enough time to think about everything. And I figured there’s nothing I can do. Even though I didn’t know everything, at least I knew more than anyone else.
I still wasn’t clear on what exactly to do with this newfound information but I’d thought about it and it was better I started getting prepared to protect myself because the Cult wasn’t going to go easy on me when they found me.
Instead of being in bed feeling sorry for myself and hating the Moon goddess for making me this way, I might as well start making something of it.
I also wanted Elijah to stop worrying about me. I knew he felt guilty about everything that was happening and I wanted him to focus on more important things.
I could take care of myself. I always have and I always will. It won’t be the first time I’d be fighting against enemies, just that this time around, the enemies came fully prepared.
Now that I think about it, I’m relieved I hadn’t shifted back then because without prior knowledge of my father’s involvement with the Cult, I would have died long ago. Being who he was, he wouldn’t have hesitated to give me up to the cult.
After all, I wasn’t his favorite daughter. I wonder what would happen if Lisa was the one they were after. Would he give her up?
I finished in the bathroom and proceeded to pick out clothes to wear. It was October so the weather was getting colder every day.
Breakfast hadn’t come up yet so I figured I’d just go down for it. I was still waiting for Yara to decide we should have another conversation because there were so many things I still needed to speak to her about.
I didn’t want to make any mistakes and for that, I needed guidance. Which, should I mention, I wasn’t getting from her.
I went into the kitchen and greeted the ladies there. Then Betty walked up to me.
“Hey, how are you doing?”
She was smiling from ear to ear.
“I’m good, thanks to you.”
I knew she was referring to what happened with the matron.
“Breakfast will be ready in five. Do you want to eat downstairs or should I bring it upstairs?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. I’m here already, I’ll just wait for it.”
I watched them work, all of them doing their jobs and laughing with each other. This wasn’t how it was for me back home.
The other maids had hated me, maybe because I was the Alpha’s daughter or maybe it was Lisa they hated and I had to suffer for it since they couldn’t do anything to her. Or maybe they just wanted someone to look down on too.
But I had been the maid for the maids. They made me do their work while they sat around and I couldn’t complain because that would just make things worse and I avoided that type of drama at all costs.
Hazel came in and I didn’t even notice.
“Good morning, Beta.”
I turned to smile at her as she placed her hand on my shoulder and ruffled my hair.
“Here I was thinking that Elijah had kidnapped you and taken you away from us.”
I laughed, patting down my hair.
“No, he didn’t. I just needed some time off.”
“I heard what happened with Hannah.”
I sighed and rolled my eyes.
“She is something else and basically the reason why I hate waking up.”
Hazel laughed.
“She’s just desperate for Elijah’s attention and since he won’t give it to her, she hates you for having it. She’s like a little flu that won’t go away. Eventually, you’ll be immune to all the things she does.”
I know I will but that doesn’t mean they’ll be any less annoying.
“Hopefully before I kill her. Is everything good?”
She removed her hand, seeming to remember why she’d come.
“I’m hungry. I came to get breakfast.”
“Me too.”
We watched the ladies work and Hazel got her food. While I waited for mine, I couldn’t help but notice Betty’s looks directed at me.
I was about to ask what was wrong when she threw the plate on the table, causing the hot contents to spill on my hand and burn me.
