Chapter 333 So Busy
ADRIANA
When I got tired of hearing Hazel give the man hell, I got up.
“Hazel, it's okay. He has already apologized. Detective, if it's not my husband in the car, please who is it?”
We looked down the hill at the car. The firefighters had just successfully put out the fire and they were trying to raise the car unto the pavement.
“It's Alisha's car.”
That was another shock and I couldn't help the way I reacted.
“What did you say?”
That's when I looked back at the car and it finally looked familiar. I had seen it in the driveway when I went to her house.
“W-what happened?”
“As for now, we have no idea. We can't exactly say what happened to her but we will know more when we investigate.”
We had to give them space as they dropped the car on the pavement.
Before long, a car pulled up and Tobias and some other men joined us.
“My Queen, good day. I just got word that you came here.”
Being here meant that it was truly important. I wanted them to treat it as such because now, we didn't have one person dead anymore.
“Commissioner, I need to know what happened and how she ended up dead.”
“Of course, My Queen.”
“By the end of the day. I need you to report to me. By the end of the day. Your detective tells me that he has found Lucy's phone?”
He sent one of the men behind him to go get the detective.
When the both of them came back, I just stood there while Tobias was whispering to the detective.
The other police officers began looking around into the vehicle and it was so badly burnt that when they opened the door, it came off and landed on the floor with a crash.
This made the detective go back over there to inspect what they were doing.
I turned to Hazel.
“Don't you think-”
“My Queen, my officers tell me that he put you in an uncomfortable position today with the way he relayed the message. I would like to apologize on his behalf.”
Well, we can't exactly take that back, can we?
“Water under the bridge. As I was saying, I want Lucy's phone records for that week of her death. Also, get me the conversations too. I want to hear everything that was said on every call. I'll be waiting for you.”
As we walked back to the car, I pulled out my phone and sent a message to Elijah. It was very simple.
“Come back home, you bastard.”
I didn't know if he would respond to it since he hadn't picked up any of our calls. Asides that, we had bigger problems.
“I don't think Alisha could have done it. I mean, she's dead.”
I looked at Hazel.
“What if she did it and killed herself out of guilt? Did you think about that?”
“What makes you so sure that she did it? I mean, why can't she be a victim of the real killer just like Lucy?”
Far from it. I think Lucy was the only victim here. Every other thing was a set up.
“I don't think I'm willing to be on that hill? Alisha isn't innocent. If she crashed that car, then she must have done it out of guilt. The only other explanation is that it was an accident.”
I have a very strong feeling that it was the former. She must have known that it would only be a matter of time before we catch up to her and come for her so she killed herself before we got the chance.
It was better for her to be dead. Because if I had managed to catch her, I would have made her life hell.
“Why are you so sure that she is guilty of killing Lucy and not just a victim? I mean, I can understand that she messed up by not telling us that she and Lucy fought before she died but the woman is dead.”
“Before you defend a murderer, find out what kind of a person she was. That woman is not who you think she is so let it go. Now, even if we want to pin her for the murder or exonerate her, we have to find proof. And we're sure as hell not getting a confession from her any time soon.”
We have to find evidence that Alisha knew that Lucy was going to the Cabin and that Alisha was even in the cabin.
The security cameras are a bust and we can't rely on them.
We finally got home and as we got down from the car, I thought of the kids. I didn't remember the last time I'd cried before today.
Okay wait, I remember. It was the day that Lana had been taken for the first time and I was so scared out of my mind that I didn't even know what to think. But back then, my fears were met. Lana was actually missing.
I saw Elijah standing outside and I couldn't help my shock. So he had gotten my message but he couldn't pick up his phone when we called.
“You know, if you're not going to bother responding when people reach out to you, you might as well throw your phone away and go live in the south pole as a hermit.”
He looked confused and Hazel just walked past us and entered the house.
“Adriana, what are you talking about? Are you okay? Why were you crying?”
My mind didn't catch the last of what he said.
“I called you today. I can't count how many times I did. I kept calling you and Hazel called you too but you didn't pick up. Why the hell didn't you pick it up?”
“I lost my phone. For the last week, I have no idea where I dropped it or where it is now.”
Did he think that was a good explanation?
“How would you remember when you seem so busy? You must have misplaced it on one of your fun trips. Move out of the way.”
He held me back as I wanted to brush past him.
