Chapter 155 A Surprise Guest
ADRIANA
By the time I woke up the next day, I woke up to many presents in my room.
It looked like where Santa stored his presents. My mouth dropped to the floor because I couldn’t just understand how on earth these many presents appeared here.
Elijah was in the room speaking to Hazel and I was guessing those are where the presents came from.
“And I’m telling you that I can’t sell any of my babies to you.”
What?
“But, I want one.” Her voice was pleading. “I’m sure Adriana wouldn’t mind. She’s asleep anyway.”
I interrupted.
“No she’s not.”
Her face lit up when she heard my voice and she ran over to me to hug me.
“Hey mama. Why didn’t you tell me you have two babies up in there? Didn’t want to give me one like we promised?”
I laughed.
“I promise you that I had no idea I was pregnant with twins. I really didn’t. I just found out when I pushed them out. But that doesn’t mean you can take any of my babies. Speaking of them, can I see them?”
Elijah nodded and left the room.
“He’s so happy. I can see how excited he is like a kid on Christmas morning.”
I was excited too. I just couldn’t show it properly. I wanted to hold my babies in my arms and tell them how much I love them. When he brought them and placed them in my arms, I found a new reason to live. A new reason to love.
They were so tiny and perfect, wrapped in blue blankets. I looked down at their faces and my heart swelled with so much love I thought it might burst. One of them yawned and the other made a little cooing sound. They were mine. Our sons.
I looked up at Elijah and saw tears in his eyes as he watched us.
“They’re perfect,” I whispered.
“Just like their mother,” he said, leaning down to kiss my forehead. Hazel took pictures of us all together, capturing this moment forever. I knew life wouldn’t be easy with twin babies, but looking at them now, I knew we could handle anything as long as we were together. This was our family. Complete at last.
We took the kids home, Liam and Elijah Junior. It wasn’t easy having two babies at the same time but somehow, I did it. I had help from Elijah who hadn’t left my side in days and then there was Hazel who was at my beck and call.
It felt really good to be loved and I was so happy that they could be there to help me. It had taken me a lot to end up where I was today and in the end, I had ended up a Luna and a mother.
My mother had been the one to let me know that I was ready for this journey. I would have been able to do it without her help. Even though she wasn’t here anymore, I was sure that she was looking at me.
That was how much she loved me, that was how much she cared about me.
Now that I had given birth, I suddenly wanted to get married to Elijah. I don’t know why I now felt like it was the right time. Somehow, I felt that getting married when pregnant would not be suitable for what I wanted.
Elijah had spoken to me about legally adopting Leo.
“Have you run it by the boy?”
He nodded.
“I wouldn’t be here if he didn’t want it. He loves the idea.”
I could understand his desire for a mother and I would be honored if I could be his mother but I was scared for the future.
What if he wakes up one morning and decides that I’m not good enough to be his mother? I wouldn’t be able to handle anything happening to a child I love so much.
“I wouldn’t be able to handle that, Elijah.” My voice broke.
He sighed and sat down beside me.
“Firstly, I don’t think you should worry about that. I don’t think Leo would ever say a thing like that to you. The boy adores you and he’s happy to have you in his life. You’re the mother he never had, Adriana. And he loves you.”
His words made me feel soft so I went to speak to Leo. He was in his room playing with his train toy when I walked in.
He didn’t notice me when I walked in but he did when I sat down on the floor beside him.
“Hi buddy, what’s good?”
He shrugged.
“Nothing. Where’s Liam and Elijah Junior?”
“They’re in their room, sleeping.”
I didn’t know how to start the conversation and I just sat there watching him until it came to me.
“Why do you always call their names? Why can’t you call them your brothers?”
“Because they’re not my brothers yet. Daddy says that we have to be family first and since I’m not family yet—”
“Says who? Leo, you’re my first son. The first kid who made me feel like a mother. You mean the world to me and I wouldn’t trade you for anything. You became family the day I decided to love your dad. You can be rest assured that you’re the twins’ older brother. Now and always.”
By the time I was done talking, he was smiling widely and I couldn’t help but feel happy that he was like this.
“Your dad told me you wanted me to adopt you.”
He blushed and nodded.
“Do you want to? You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
I pulled him in for a hug.
“Of course I want to. Who else would read you bedtime stories? Who else would team up with you against dad?”
“What about the twins?”
“They already like your dad more. You are with me.”
Elijah didn’t leave their side all day. He was always hunched over their cots, watching them sleep and being there when they woke up.
It was the cutest thing to see and I was just so glad that he was interested in them. It even helped me sleep and relax because of how much attention and effort the kids needed.
I had barely gotten any amount of sleep since I returned from the hospital. They cried every day and every night and it was just so tiring.
Our wedding was this weekend and we wanted to have time to ourselves first before the wedding. It wasn’t to do anything that would result in more babies but to get some time to sleep and rest.
Sometimes, when Elijah was wiped out as well, Aiden and Hazel took over. It was nice to have people who cared about you around you.
If not for them, I didn’t know what I would have been able to do.
Maybe the universe knew we needed help and that’s why she sent Elijah’s mother.
I was nervous about meeting her. After everything Elijah had told me about how he felt about her abandoning him, I wasn’t sure how this would go. But the sisters insisted that she needed to meet us, to meet her grandchildren. And deep down, I knew Elijah needed this closure, even if he didn’t want to admit it.
When we heard this, I didn't know that moment would arrive sooner rather than later.
