Chapter 120 Done With the Conversation

Chapter 120 Done With the Conversation
ADRIANA

“Adriana, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Please, just drop it.”

Elijah started walking out of the room and I had to stop him because I knew that it meant that was the end of the discussion completely.

We’d been on this topic for a week now and we had made no progress whatsoever. Every time I brought it up, he ended up walking away and eventually, that would be the end of that conversation.

I could see that he was avoiding it but then at the same time, I understood how he felt about the situation.

“Elijah, please just listen to me for a moment.” I argued. “Why can’t you just let me do this? I mean, I’m fine now. The only thing we were worried about was that man and he’s dead now, isn’t he?”

“The only thing?” he scoffed, which made me realize how sheltered that sounded and that wasn’t doing good for my argument. “Do you think your dad was the only scary thing out there in this world? Adriana, your dad was just the first of many more to come after you so how can you say that he was our only problem?”

I was just trying to sound positive about the whole situation. I knew that there were many more issues at hand to face but I didn’t want to bring them up right now for the fear that it wouldn’t end well between us.

He worried a lot over things and I didn’t want to add to that burden he already carried.

I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind.

“I will be fine. I mean, it’s not like I don’t have my wolf anymore. Yara will be there to protect me and if there’s anything wrong, I’ll surely call for you immediately so why are you so scared of this?”

He removed my hands from around him and walked to the window, staring out at the forest.

“Yara is the reason this whole thing is happening in the first place. I mean, why did she have to tell you that? What’s her aim? What if something happens to you out there? She hasn’t exactly been the Wolf of the Year with her track record!”

“Ugh Elijah, just stop it okay?! Give me and her a break already. I know you’re worried about me but acting like this won’t exactly chase our enemies away. You’re expecting me to sit back and do nothing while those men do everything they can to kill me? You can’t always protect me from everything. Let me do something for myself for once.”

I walked out of the room and left him there for the first time, not wanting to talk about it with him right now.

Maybe I’ll take it up with him later but not right now. I was scared that I might say the wrong thing and offend him deeply. Even though I was hearing his voice calling me back, I didn’t listen to him.

I saw Hazel downstairs speaking to a group of guards and Aiden was standing beside her with his hands on his waist. When he saw me, he made eye contact but unlike before, he didn’t do anything silly or inappropriate.

I also noticed that the conversation seemed serious so I just take a seat and let them finish what they were discussing.

“Search the neighboring trees thoroughly. Send men in every direction and capture everything that moves. The Alpha is already in a bad mood so I need good news to back up the bad news that I’m going to break to him so hurry up and get it done.”

The guards walked away quickly, leaving Hazel and Aiden who were talking in hushed voices to each other.

Hazel was going to say something but Aiden nudged her and pointed at me sitting there. Her face turned from serious to friendly instantly.

“Hey Adriana. What are you doing here? I thought you were upstairs speaking to Elijah?”

“Oh yeah, I was but we were done with that conversation.”

No, we weren’t but I didn’t want to have to start narrating what happened and in all honesty, I didn’t want to speak to anyone about it right now.

I felt like I might actually lose it if I did and started crying.

“So what’s going on? You guys look like something is wrong.”

They shared a look and then turned back to me.

“Wrong! What made you think that?”

It was very awkward for Aiden to be this quiet during a conversation.

“I mean, I just heard you telling the guards to search around the forest so you’re definitely looking for something right? So I’m asking, what are you looking for exactly?”

Before they could respond, Elijah came down the stairs and joined us. I put a distance between the both of us and he noticed it but he didn’t say anything about it at all.

“What’s going on? Is there any problem?”

Hazel and Aiden shared that look again and it bothered me deeply.

“Well, Alpha. There’s something you need to know immediately.”

“Okay, what is it? I’m listening.”

This was the first time I was seeing Hazel fumbling over words like this.

“We just got word that—”

A knock on the door interrupted us and Aiden went over to open it.

“Alpha, I think you need to come over here right now. It’s urgent.”

Elijah looked at all of us before walking toward the door. I stood up to follow him but Hazel held my hand, shaking her head.

Whatever was happening, it was serious. I could feel it in my bones.

The air in the room had changed completely, becoming heavy with tension and worry. Something bad had happened and they were trying to keep it from me. But I wasn’t going to let them protect me anymore. I needed to know what was going on.

I pulled my hand away from Hazel and followed Elijah outside. What I saw made my blood run cold.
