Chapter 108 The Fool I'd Always Been

Chapter 108 The Fool I'd Always Been
ADRIANA

Hazel and Aiden had come down the stairs too and they were standing behind Elijah.

I could feel the sharp blade of the knife against my neck and I was scared. I was actually terrified she was going to slice my neck.

Where was Yara when you needed her?

She only showed up at times when you didn’t need her, like when I wanted to take a shower or when I needed to sleep. She didn’t understand the concept of privacy and right timing.

But I couldn’t blame her. She was a wolf.

Elijah was looking right into my eyes.

His guards were on alert and they were ready to jump her.

“Tell your guards to stand down! I’ll kill her!”

From the way she was screaming, I was scared.

I noticed that she was slowly moving back and I had to follow her. Where was she going?

“Hannah, what do you want? Just tell me what you want and I’ll give it to you.”

She laughed and since I was close to her, I could hear how wrong it sounded.

“You will give it to me? What if I said I wanted to marry you? Would you be able to give that to me too? Would you be able to marry me?!”

Since Elijah was looking at me, it was easy for me to tell him not to say anything stupid because right now, she was vulnerable and fragile and I didn’t want to be a victim of his stupid answers.

Thankfully, he caught the drift.

“I’m sure we can work something out. But only if you drop the knife. You can’t hold a knife to her throat and expect me to speak to you.”

“Why do you care about her so much? What is in her that you love her so much? Why can’t it be me? I’ve known you for years!”

But of course, I should have known that I couldn’t trust him with hostage situations.

“I don’t love you! I never have and I never will. Don’t you get it?! I can’t marry you just because you’ve known me for a thousand years. I don’t care about that, I care about what my heart wants. My heart wants Adriana and I’m going to be with her.”

Surely, I was going to die today. There were no two ways about it.

I didn’t even want to think about that right now.

I should have just stayed back with the sisters. Why did I come back here in the first place?

I should have just asked Elijah to bring Leo over.

“Are you just going to let her kill you?”

“Finally, you decide to show up. I thought you were going to let this freak kill us.”

Yara laughed.

“So how do you want to handle this? Should I show her some of the skills you’ve been practicing or you just want her to be blown away?”

I thought about it for a moment. I really didn’t have the strength to fight her.

“Blow her away.”

And that’s what happened. A strong gust of wind blew from me, taking Hannah back toward the wall and she hit her back before collapsing on the floor.

The guards rushed to her side and carried her while Elijah came to me.

“Adriana, I’m so sorry. Are you okay? Are you fine?”

My throat was sore and I was very sure that I had been traumatized.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

As the guards picked her up, I could hear her mumbling some things but they weren’t clear.

“Told ya you made the right choice. That one is loco.”

The crowd dismissed.

“Take her to the dungeon and lock her up. Plant new guards there so she won’t be able to find her way out. She must not leave that prison no matter what.”

The guards dragged her away and Elijah helped me stand up.

“Come on, let’s get you to your room.”

He picked me up bridal style and took me to my room. Even after he dropped me on the bed, my arms didn’t leave his neck.

“Addy, can you let me go?”

I shook my head.

“No, I don’t want to. Can you stay here with me for a while? I mean, I was almost killed. I deserve a treat.”

He laughed and got into bed with me.

“Even if you weren’t almost killed, I’ll still want to be with you.”

I smiled and rested my head on his chest and we just lay there in silence.

As we lay there, the reality of the situation kicked in.

“Elijah, she was ready to kill me. She was going to actually kill me.”

He laughed and his laughter vibrated in my ear.

“Are you just waking up?”

I looked up at him with a straight face and he stopped laughing.

“It’s not funny. I almost died. Hannah is really crazy. What the hell?”

“What happened between the both of you?”

I told him everything that happened before she went crazy.

“So she told Betty to bake a cake with chocolate just so that I would hate you?”

“Yeah. I don’t know if you’ve noticed though because you’re really busy but she hates him. I don’t know why but she hates him.”

He didn’t say anything after that and I could tell that he was thinking so I didn’t want to disturb him.

“Before you left, I wanted to tell you something.”

It suddenly came back to me and I sat up.

“Yes, you did and for some reason, I forgot all about it. Why were you acting so weird? It made me worry.”

He sat up as well and cleared his throat. His eyes dropped to my neck.

“Your neck looks sore. I’ll get you some ice.”

He hopped off the bed before I could even say anything and ran out of the room. Why was he avoiding this topic?

I mean, he was the one who brought it up. I didn’t even remember it.

Or did he have someone else?

No, that wasn’t it.

He came back into the room with an ice pack in his hand.

“Here.”

I collected it and thanked him for it. My eyes didn’t leave him as he sat back down on the bed.

“Elijah, what is going on? Why are you acting so strange? What is it?”

He cleared his throat.

“I wanted to tell you that I didn’t just find out that we were mates.”

I first removed the ice pack from my neck.

“What do you mean by that?”

“I mean, I found out earlier that we were mates.”

I moved closer to him.

“I still don’t understand you, Elijah. What are you trying to say? You knew since when? How long? Why didn’t I know?”

“I’m saying that I found out that we were mates the night I met you. I’ve known since then.”

My mouth fell open.

“You what? And you didn’t say anything?! Elijah, how could you do this? Why would you do this to me? Do you know how long I’ve been looking for my mate?”

He tried to move close to me but I stopped him.

“Don’t even think of doing such. Why? Why would you do this to me? You knew how much I wanted a mate but yet you did this to me.”

“Adr—”

“Get out.”

I didn’t want to hear anything that he had to say. I knew that it was going to be all lies.

“Get out, Elijah!”

He got off the bed.

“I’m so sorry.”

That was the last thing he said before he left the room. How could he do a thing like this?

He knew how much I had been looking forward to finding my mate. He knew how much finding my mate meant to me. He knew that I wanted to be with my mate so that I could finally live a normal life.

But he didn’t tell me the truth. He kept it away from me and made me feel like a whore the entire time. I felt like I was doing something wrong and I felt like he would soon dump me.

He refused to tell me the truth.

Was this the betrayal that the sisters had been talking about?

I’m sure this was it because I didn’t expect for this to happen. Elijah was the one person I trusted in this pack and I gave him my whole heart and he went ahead and did this.

I should have known that he would be like this. All men were the same. My father was like this too, a liar and a deceiver so of course, he would be like this.

I cried myself to sleep that night, not knowing what exactly to feel.

I didn’t even bother eating and when Hazel came knocking, I knew that he had told her what had happened and that was fine.

She probably knew about it too.

So I was the fool in this whole thing. Just as I’d always been.
