MYSTERIES AND DESIRES
**LUCIAN'S POV**
My mind was a whirlwind of questions and emotions. I could still taste her lips on mine, haunting me with its intensity. I told her that nothing she did would affect me but that was a far cry from the truth. At that moment, I felt everything—the scorching fire of desire, the turbulent storm of longing, and the undeniable pull that had drawn me inexorably to her lips.
I couldn't help but question myself. Why had I kissed her with such fervor? What possessed me in that moment to throw caution to the wind? The memory of our lips meeting, a testament to a connection that ran deeper than I cared to admit, played on a loop in my mind.
Self-doubt gnawed at me as I questioned my actions. Why did I kiss her with such unbridled intensity? What had driven me, The Lycan Lord of Chao’s, schooled in self-control for centuries, to abandon all caution?
But beneath the confusion and frustration lay something I couldn't quite grasp—a yearning, a hunger, a desire that defied logic. It was a flame that had been ignited, one that threatened to consume me in its unrelenting heat. I had spent centuries suppressing my emotions, but in that stolen kiss, I had felt the floodgates open, releasing a torrent of conflicting feelings.
Her presence still lingers in the air like a ghost of our shared moment, I couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. My existence had just become more convoluted, entangled with the allure of a woman who challenged my every belief.
With a heavy sigh, I pushed the library door open and I noticed Lucy perched behind her desk, surrounded by a mountain of books in various stages of disarray as she scribbled something in a tattered notebook, her brow furrowed in concentration.
My entrance went unnoticed until I approached the desk, my presence casting a fleeting shadow over her work. She looked up at me and let out an exaggerated gasp as her chair teetered precariously on two legs, and a few scrolls tumbled to the floor. With wide eyes and flushed cheeks, she flailed her arms in an attempt to regain balance, knocking over a stack of books in the process.
"Ahhh!" she exclaimed, her voice an octave higher than usual.
In a frantic effort to regain her balance, she clung desperately to the desk's edge, her disarrayed papers rustling in a chorus of protest. Her typical mental chaos seemed momentarily forgotten as she blinked several times, struggling to form coherent thoughts. "Lucian... What... You're here?" Her sentences stumbled and hesitated, mirroring her ongoing struggle for composure.
"I'm sorry, Lucy," I began, my voice a calming contrast to the chaos I had unintentionally introduced, "I didn't mean to startle you."
Lucy's fear was palpable as she tried to regain her composure, her wide-eyed gaze locked onto me, the Cursed Lycan King, the Lord of Chaos, now standing before her. I could sense her unease, and I wanted to put her at ease.
"Lucy," I said in a soft, reassuring tone, "I'm not here to harm you. I came to talk."
She gulped audibly, her voice trembling as she replied, "O-Of course, Lucian. What... What can I help you with?"
I could see the mental gears turning in her head, her thoughts racing a mile a minute. It was evident that she was trying to reconcile the mythical figure from her books with the being she now faced in the flesh.
"I wanted to thank you for your help," I admitted, "for helping me heal."
Lucy's fear began to slowly ebb away as my words reassured her. Her wide eyes softened, and her posture relaxed ever so slightly.
"Oh," she stammered, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks, "you're welcome, Lucian. I’m glad I could help.”
I offered her a genuine smile, appreciating her kind demeanor in this unfamiliar world. "I appreciate it, nonetheless. Your knowledge has been invaluable to me."
As I spoke, I noticed that some of the scattered books and scrolls around her seemed to be related to Lycan history and curses. It gave me the idea that perhaps Lucy held more knowledge than she realized. Her gaze followed mine and her curiosity seemed to overcome her initial fear.
"Lucian," she began cautiously, her voice tinged with curiosity, "I've read many stories about you, about the Cursed Lycan King, the Lord of Chaos. Are they all true?"
I met her gaze with a mixture of acknowledgment and a hint of weariness. The legends and stories about me had undoubtedly taken on a life of their own over the centuries.
"Some of them may have a grain of truth," I admitted, "but as with any legend, they tend to be embellished and distorted over time. The reality is often far more complex."
Lucy nodded, seeming to appreciate my honesty. "I suppose that's true of many historical accounts," she mused. "If there's one thing I've learned in my years as a librarian, it's that the truth can be elusive."
I couldn't agree more. The truth about my curse, my past, and the mysterious witch Selene remained shrouded in mystery. But I was determined to uncover it, no matter where the path led.
"Indeed," I replied, “Lucy, have you ever heard of a witch named Selene? Perhaps in your extensive reading?”
Her eyes widened in recognition. "Selene? Yes, there are mentions of a powerful witch by that name, but they're few and far between. She's considered a mythical figure, a legend among witches. Some say she was capable of curses that defied even the laws of magic. Is she the one that cursed you?"
I nodded slightly and my fists clenched but I couldn’t deny that my interest was piqued at the mention of Selene's formidable reputation. "Do you have any leads on her current whereabouts? Or any more information about her?”
Lucy hesitated again, a shiver of fear running through her. "I... I can try and find out, but Lucian, please be cautious. If Selene truly cursed you, she's not to be taken lightly."
I gave her a reassuring nod, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Thank you, Lucy. Your help is invaluable."
Just as I was engrossed in my conversation with Lucy, a familiar voice called out from behind me. "Lucian," Asher's voice, warm and friendly, cut through the library's hushed atmosphere.
Turning, I saw Asher walking toward us, with Ethan following closely behind. Ethan's eyes met mine before they shifted away. I noticed the tense clench of his jaw, and my eyes narrowed slightly. Could they have heard my conversation with Lucy?
"Lucian," Asher repeated with the usual grin on his face, his hazel eyes shifting between Lucy and me. "What brings you to our humble library?"
Lucy, seemingly relieved by Asher's arrival, quickly gathered her scattered thoughts and gave him a polite smile. "Good morning, Asher. Lucian and I were just having a conversation."
Asher's gaze shifted to me, curiosity gleaming in his eyes. "I see," he replied, his tone inviting further explanation. "Anything I should know?"
My eyes shifted between Asher and Ethan. If Asher is asking then they probably did not hear anything, my conversation with Lucy about Selene was best kept discreet for now. "I'm merely expressing my gratitude to Lucy for her assistance in my recovery," I replied diplomatically.
Asher nodded in understanding, his expression reflecting genuine warmth. "Lucy is a treasure of knowledge and kindness," he remarked, casting a brief, appreciative smile in her direction.
Lucy's blush deepened, and she lowered her gaze, humbled by Asher's praise. "Thank you, Asher. It's always a pleasure to assist."
"Speaking of assistance," Asher says "Lyra needs to see you in the war room she said it sounded urgent."
I felt my heart quicken its pace at the mention of Lyra. The memory of her lips on mine, her taste, her scent—it all came rushing back to the surface, igniting a fire within me.
We just shared a kiss one that crackled with an intensity I had not expected and I'm sure she felt it too. Did our shared moment have anything to do with her sudden need to see me? Or was it merely a coincidence?
I swallowed hard " Did she say why she needs to see me? " I ask.
Asher shakes his head "No she just told me to find you and tell you to meet her in the war room.”
I nodded my brow furrowing slightly at the mention of Lyra's urgent summons.
"Thank you, Asher," I replied, my voice carrying a note of seriousness. " I'll make my way to the war room right away."
With that, Asher and Ethan left, and I turned to Lucy offering her a brief but appreciative nod. "I appreciate our conversation, Lucy."
Lucy smiled, her earlier fear now replaced with a sense of accomplishment. "You're very welcome, if I find anything I will let you know."
As I turned away from Lucy, my thoughts were still a tumultuous whirlwind of unanswered questions and unspoken desires. The urgency of Lyra's request to see her in the war room weighed heavily on my mind, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was related to our shared moment or if some new threat loomed on the horizon. With a parting nod to Lucy, who had resumed her work with a newfound sense of purpose, I left the library behind.
