Chapter 74 On Top Of Him

Chapter 74 On Top Of Him
Maya had spent the entire day pacing back and forth in her room. Her frustration growing every passing hour. She wasn't on house arrest but it felt like she was because Levi wasn't going to let her step out until he was convinced she was truly better from rest. And she couldn't afford to rest!

Not when her mind keeps circling back to Sloane, thinking of how to save her from being executed by Sebastian or even Levi himself. Although she had made her stance clear on which side she's on, she still didn't want her once close friend to die.

"Can you ever listen for once?" Maya jumped when she heard Levi's voice. He was leaning against the door with his hands folded, wearing the grimmest expression she'd ever seen on him.

"How long have you been there?" Maya asked, obviously startled.

"You still aren't taking a rest. Do you find yourself incapable of doing so?" Levi said, ignoring her question.

"Well I can't rest, damnit!" Maya snapped, then immediately gave him an apologetic look to show she didn't mean it.

Levi on the other hand didn't seemed bothered by her snappiness but he was still annoyed because the reason she was being snappy was because she wasn't getting any rest.

"Why? What brothers you that much?" His tone had softened. He didn't want to make her put her guard up again.

Maya sighed and threw her hands up in frustration, "I'm scared..." She admitted.

"Of what?"

"Of Sloane being executed. I don't want her to die, and I know it's selfish for me to think like this considering where she stands in this war but she once saved my life." Maya's voice shook with tears she was trying to hold back.

"I just need one more chance to try and convince her to change her mind so her life can be spared. Please." A bead of tear dropped from her eye onto her cheek and that was Levi's last straw.

He didn't say anything. Instead, peeled himself off the door and covered the distance between them in three strides.

He instantly pulled her into him without giving her a chance to react. Maya was taken aback by the sudden embrace but was even more shocked when she realized the it wasn't actually an embrace.

She hadn't even seen him grabbed a thin bedsheet off the bed because he had already twirled it around them twice like a rope, securing it with two tight knots on the side, perfectly restraining her against him.

"What are you doing?!" She choked out, her free hands roaming over the secured sheet around their waists.

Levi took her hands and extended it so they are wrapped around his neck before he replied, "Making you sleep."

He removed his belt and daggers from his side and threw them onto the floor. Immediately after, he lifted her up and walked towards the bed, lying down with her on top.

"Levi, this is ridiculous. You have to let me go this instant." Maya protested but Levi was hearing none of it. He had his hands firmly wrapped around her as if to keep her from running.

"I will only free you when I'm certain you've slept." He stated firmly, his expression stoic even when Maya shot him an annoyed glare.

"You know I can make you release me this instant? By getting into your head."

"Is that supposed to be a threat?" Levi scoffed and Maya grunted frustratedly, remembering he could now telepathically block her illusions.

She didn't know what to think or do, she didn't see any of this coming. Never in a million years would she have thought Levi to be so capable of something as absurd as restraining her against him on a bed to make her sleep. She was sure he didn't see himself doing so either.

With her arms around his neck and his around her waist, Maya slightly cleared her throat because their positions seemed more intimate than it should be.

This was also the first time she saw Levi's eyes up close, deep green like the rain forest, stern yet gentle. Perfect.

"I'm going to talk your ears off till you get tired and let me go." She stated with a huff.

"Then it seems like we'd be like this for a very long time," Levi scoffed. Maya grunted in frustration again. "I feel uncomfortable." She lied. A breathless gasp escaped her lips when he immediately took action and adjusted her properly on top of him. "Are you comfortable now?" Levi asked in a husky tone that made her body shiver with an unexpected excitement.

Maya was suddenly all too aware of Levi's body, his scent, his voice... his lips. He had such beautifully shaped lips, and the nasty thoughts that settled in her head as she stared at them scared her a bit. "Stop biting your lips," Levi said. Maya blinked twice, unaware that was what she was doing. She freed her lips immediately, then looked to the side to hide her flaming cheeks.

"So embarrassing!" she thought, squinting her eyes as the only way to punish herself for being too obvious.

Levi, on the other hand, was about to regret putting himself in this situation because now, not only did he have to ensure Maya slept, but also suppress the insane urge to kiss her senseless before she slept.

"We'll find a way about Sloane." Levi said after a moment. Maya slowly raised her head to look at him, "Wouldn't that put you in a tough spot with the king?" She asked.

"Definitely would. I just need to think, I'll definitely figure something out." He replied.

Maya nodded then looked away again. "Why do you always try to help me?" She asked again after another silent moment, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Because you make rash and careless decisions. If I don't interfere, you might get yourself killed. I don't want to see you lifeless again." Levi said.

The tears in her eyes were now streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks. Unable to keep withholding the tightness in her chest any longer, a choking sob escaped her mouth.

She couldn't stop herself as she began sobbing hard against Levi's broad chest, soaking his cloth with her tears.

Levi, unsure of what to do at the moment to calm her down, decided to hold her as gently and firm as he possibly could, caressing her back as he did.

Maya cried for a while before she finally succumbed to sleep and Levi's hands never stopped patting her back. He also drifted to sleep not long after.

Later that night, Fernanda, accompanied by Yolanda, decided to go see Maya to check on her. "I haven't seen her all day," She said.

"Perhaps she has been getting a very well deserved rest." Yolanda added when they arrived in front of Maya's door.

"I hope so."

Yolanda knocked once and didn't wait for a response before opening the door. They both froze when they saw Maya on top of Levi, both of them fast asleep with his arms wrapped around her.

"Good heavens!" Yolanda exclaimed. Fernanda was too stunned to speak. They both exchanged an amused look and quietly retreated without a word. Fernanda couldn't wait to dissect what that was with Maya when she wakes up.
