Chapter 154 Trouble In The Tunnels
Trixie's POV
The moment Coban and Caden leave, the unease settles in my chest. It's a sharp and sudden pressure. It's like a hand curling around my heart.
I press my palm to my stomach. I try to slow my breathing down. I need to calm myself down somehow.
The tunnels are quiet. Soft lighting runs along the walls casting long shadows over the carpeted floor. Pillows are stacked nearby and blankets are folded neatly. I'm glad we stocked the tunnels up yesterday. Then Caden added to it today as well. He said his queen needed more comfort.
"Trix" Leigha whispers. You can hear the tension in her voice. "There's trouble coming."
My breath catches. "What kind of trouble?" I ask her as I am rubbing my stomach trying to ease some of the pain.
"I don't know. I just know something bad is going to happen." Now that worries me more that a little. I get chills going down my spine.
"Caden, Coban. Are they safe." I ask hesitantly. Not really wanting the answer but needing it at the same time.
"I don't know." She says as she stills, her ears up in attention.
I swallow hard and look around at the others.
Trinity is leaning up against the walls. Her eyes are closed. She has her hands resting over her stomach. Tina and Sabrina are sitting close together. They're both whispering back and forth. Roxie and Brandi are sharing a blanket. They're trying to laugh about something stupid.
I don't tell them. I won't put that fear in their eyes unless I have to.
As we try and pass the time, we all sit and talk. We talk about the tunnels and the food we ate before we entered. About how we hate waiting. Brandi brings up how she can feel Elliott through the bond. We all agree. We feel their fatigue, their strain, their pain rolling in waves. No one says it outright, but we all know. The battle is bad.
Then the pain hits me hard. The pain is more sharp and extreme than it has been yet. I gasp, my fingers digging into the arm of the chair as the pressure clamps down low and deep in my belly.
Eugene is on his feet instantly. "Alright, breathe." He says calmly as he kneels in front of me. "Talk to me my Queen."
"It hurts way more than before. More intense, way sharper pain." I whisper, not quite able to get complete sentences out.
He presses his hand to my abdomen. His eyes narrowing in concentration. "It's stress. The babies feel the fight. They're reacting."
Another wave hits and I cry out softly. Sweat beads breaks across my forehead.
I look around, I hear it. Muffled voices, their faint at first. Their coming from outside the tunnel.
I freeze.
"So please tell me you hear that." Tina whispers.
A loud bang echoes through the walls. Metal clanging is heard next. Something is thrown up against the walls as we hear the loud crashes and thumps from the inside. Next comes the screams, their howls so loud that it makes my blood run cold.
A few minutes of silence pass and then the screaming starts back up. Only louder this time.
I hear footsteps, then it turns into a full run. A figure then appears from around the corner of the tunnel.
SANDI
She's disheveled. Blood is smeared across her sleeve. Her eyes are wild with hate.
"Well, there you are you stupid bitch." She sneers as she stares at me.
Tina and Sabrina moves instantly. They step in front of me, their bodies squared.
"You don't get near her." Tina snaps.
Sandi laughs sharp and ugly. "I don't need to." She lunges and the blade she is holding flashes. I see it before it hits her. Tina cries out as Sandi slices down her arm. The cut is deep. Blood starts pouring instantly from the wound.
Sabrina shoves forward. Sandi turns, driving the knife into her leg. Sabrina screams out as she collapses down into the floor.
"Nooooo" I shout.
Trinity slips away silently. Moving towards the tunnel exit like a shadow.
Sandi turns back to me panting. "You took everything from me."
I raise my hands. The power shoots through me. An invisible force slams into Sandi. She is frozen mid-step, pinning her back up against the wall. The effort rips a groan from my throat. My vision starts to blur.
"I'm done playing with you." Sandi snarls as she's trying to fight it.
Pain detonates through me. My knees buckle. Eugene catches me just in time before I crash onto the floor.
Fear then slams through the bond. It's Coban. Pain and fear. Death brushing to close. He's going to die.
"No" I whisper desperately.
I pour everything I have through the bond.
Love. Warmth. Reassurance.
Pull on us, I pray silently. Pull on the babies.
The distraction costs me. The force slips. Sandi lunges forward. The blade flashes to my chest. Brandi screams and shoves me sideways. The knife sinks into my arm instead. White-hot pain explodes through me. I scream out.
Trinity runs back just as Eugene and Brandi tries to restrain Sandi. She thrashes wildly and flings something from her pocket. Liquid splashes all over Eugene. He shouts as it burns through his sleeve.
"Trixie" Darien's voice roars through the tunnel. Sandi laughs out. "You're too late."
Darien and Lucian appear like demons from hell. Darien's claws tear through. He doesn't hesitate. He drives them straight at Sandi's chest, ripping her entire chest wide open. She drops without another sound.
Lucian is already moving. He went where he could mind-link the other royal doctors.
I sag back in the chair. I'm shaking like a leaf. Blood is running down my arm. Pain rolling through me in brutal waves.
The lights flicker. My babies stir.
Boots thunder through the tunnel. It's Coban. Omg! He's alright. He's alive!
He doesn't slow down. He don't hesitate. He skids to his knees beside me. His hands are shaking with a light glow to them. His eyes are wild as power is still rolling through him in dangerous waves.
"Trixie, my love." He breathes out as his voice is breaking.
"Fuck! Fuck!" He mumbles.
Henry arrives just a minute after Coban. He's already pulling on his gloves. His eyes are snapping from my face to the blood that's soaking my arm.
Coban presses his palms over the wound. Power instantly surges through him. I gasp as heat floods through me. The pain in my arm starts to go away as the skin knits together beneath his hands.
"I've got you." He keeps saying over and over.
Henry bends down and places a hand on my stomach. His face tightens.
"Bad news. She's in active labor." He says quickly.
The world tilts. Coban freezes.
"What" Caden snaps as he appears just behind him.
Henry looks up. "The stress and everything that just happened pushed it. We need to move her to a bed now. Or we deliver here. Those are your only options."
