Book 8 Part 7
Book 8 Part 7
Slade had registered us for school the previous week and our bikes were delivered that Saturday afternoon. The house wasn’t furnished and that first night we’d slept on the floor in our wolf forms. The weekend was spent buying furniture for the bedrooms and a couch and television for the living room.
We’d realized the error of our ways when we had to order take-out since we had no appliances, pots or pans or plates. We’d both laughed as we stood in the kitchen, not even able to make a cup of coffee for ourselves.
There were two master suites on the third floor so Slade and I each took one. Every room in the house had their own bathroom and there was a guest bathroom downstairs just off the dining room. It was a massive house, but we both liked the space.
From the front door, the house opened into a fairly big sized foyer which led to a large open plan living and dining room with the kitchen spread out at the back of the house. There were sliding doors everywhere and a lot of natural light filtered through the house.
Off the kitchen down a small hallway was a large bedroom with a bathroom, almost like living quarters for a housekeeper, which we didn’t have. It was a nice big room but then again all the bedrooms were spacious. Past the kitchen was a pantry and a washing up room with a back door.
Upstairs on the second floor were five bedrooms and the two master suites on the top floor each had a small sitting area, much like my chambers back at the castle. In between the two suites was a home entertainment room big enough for twenty people. Slade and I both agreed to convert it into a gym.
The master bedrooms also had large sliding doors which opened up to a private patio overlooking the woods and the edge of a stream that flowed through the property. Downstairs was a large patio at the back with a swing that hung from the roof and the pool. The pool had a bar area and a large backyard where Slade and I could train without anyone seeing us.
The garages were huge and there was enough room for about eight cars, although now it was just the two bikes and the Jeep that were parked there. Kiran kept in touch and we texted regularly although I hadn’t heard from anyone else in the family. I’d only been gone for a week but the text I had sent to my mother to tell her we were safe, hadn’t gone through and I knew my number was blocked on her phone.
It was ten p.m. and Slade and I had already done a perimeter run around the house and through parts of the forest. We did this every night to ensure that there were no strange scents on our property but also because running in your wolf form was the best feeling ever.
I had just finished my shower when I heard the banging on the front door and Slade and I met at the top of the stairs at the same time as we ran down them. Our house was secluded and anybody knocking on our door had to be lost or looking specifically for us.
“Please, help me,” the voice said on the other side of the door as we reached it and Slade pulled the door open as I stood ready to shift and lunge. It was a young girl and she was naked; dirt and leaves clung to her hair and body and she looked deathly afraid.
“Take her inside,” Blaise said as he pushed forward and I shifted and lunged towards the border of trees on the side of the house. I caught their scent and they turned and ran as soon as they saw me. Blaise was pretty hard to miss, he was much larger than an Alpha wolf and his fur was a mixture of light blue and gray like Onyx, but Blaise’s eyes were violet.
Blaise caught up to the first wolf in seconds and I smelled the decaying scent of a rogue strongly even as I watched from the back of my own mind. Blaise bit down on his neck as he kept running and snapped it as he lunged at the second wolf. He didn’t fare any better than the first wolf and died quickly as Blaise severed his head from his body.
I shifted back to my human form and looked at the two dead bodies at my feet. Blaise had barely worked up a sweat and he still looked at them from behind my eyes. “Brenna,” I said and their bodies caught fire as I hid the smell. Burning flesh had an acrid smell to it and it would lead unwanted attention straight to our front door.
I watched as their bodies burned down to ashes and I shifted back into Blaise and ran to the house. I shifted again on the porch and saw the pair of shorts Slade had left for me. He opened the front door as he heard me shifting and I walked inside.
“Rogues?” he asked me.
“Two, I burned their bodies,” I said to him and he nodded.
“She’s in the living room,” he said to me and I walked out of the foyer towards her.
“Are they dead?” she asked with wide eyes.
“Yes and they’ll never be found,” I said to her.
“Impressive for someone so young,” she said and Slade snorted slightly.
“Who are you and how did you find us?” I asked her. I saw fear in her eyes as she tried to look at me.
“I came across your scent by accident, I was just traveling through when those two rogues started following me and tried to attack me,” she said.
“Traveling where?” Slade asked her.
“Anywhere, I don’t have a pack anymore. I was cast out recently but I was glad, my previous Alpha is cruel and ruthless,” she said.
“Who was your Alpha?” I asked her.
“Alpha Philip Truman from Mendocino, the next county over. I didn’t know wolves had claimed Cloverdale. There’s a lot of lone wolves in the area and there’s an Alpha on the other side of Cloverdale but I thought it was still unclaimed,” she said.
