Part 58
Part 58
Adrian opened his eyes and a smile appeared on his face. He felt rested, invigorated, and ready. Today was the day. His warehouse project was complete and he woke Juniper up with his special blended coffee, with a spring in his step. His plan was perfect. He couldn’t help the tingle of pleasure that raced up his spine. It was the same tingle he got when he was close to orgasm. If he had more time, he’d find relief in the bathroom, but he was pressed for time as it was.
Juniper looked at Adrian and felt another shiver go up her spine as he handcuffed her to the chair and stuffed a face cloth in her mouth before taping over it. He seemed very happy and she heard his whistling all the way to the car.
Adrian bided his time and an hour after Kiran had dropped Christian off at daycare, he parked his car in front of the building. He walked inside with a confidence that only he could muster and smiled at the receptionist who smiled back at him.
“Hi, there, can I help you with something?” She was a pretty young girl, maybe nineteen with strawberry blond hair and brown eyes.
“Good morning, ma’am. I’m here to pick up Christian Jeffreys. There’s been a family emergency.” He lifted his police badge and the young girl’s eyes grew wide as her hand flew to her gaping mouth.
“Is everything alright?” She was worried and Adrian kept his expression neutral.
“There’s been a death in the family, the grandmother. Mr. Sinclair sent me to pick Christian up and take him home, they’re quite upset.” Adrian had to stop himself from smiling at how this idiotic girl believed every word he said.
“Of course. I’ll go get him from class.”
Adrian turned to look at her as she walked down the short hallway and disappeared. After a few minutes she returned with the little boy, holding his hand.
“Please send our condolences to the family. I assume Christian won’t be in school for a few days, right?”
“A week at least. They need to travel for the funeral.” Adrian looked at Christian again as the girl knelt down to his level and smoothed his light brown hair.
“Christian, this nice police officer is going to take you home. You behave okay. Everything’s going to be just fine.”
“Yes, Julie.” Adrian half smiled, Christian had good manners at least, for a wolf child.
Christian nodded his head and took Adrian’s outstretched hand and walked outside to his car. Adrian put the safety belt over Christian’s lap and clicked it in after letting him climb into the car.
“Why don’t you have a police car?”
“Because I work undercover most of the time.”
Christian looked at him, narrowing his eyes for a few seconds before turning his head to look out of the window.
“How do you like school, Christian?”
“It’s okay. Julie teaches me stuff about random animals every week. It’s not part of the work we have to do, she only does it, because I’m smarter than everyone else.”
“What time do you normally go home?” Adrian knew exactly what time Kiran picked him up every day but he was testing the trust levels between himself and the boy.
“Just before two o’clock and then we go to the hotel.” Christian was oblivious to the fact that he wasn’t going home and Adrian smiled. He still had a few hours before anyone would notice that the boy was gone.
“Who’s grandmother died?”
“Kiran’s grandmother.” Adrian caught the surprised look in Christian’s eyes and knew that somehow he had messed up.
Christian realized then that something was wrong. Kiran’s grandmother had died before his own parents had died. “You’re going the wrong way.” Adrian had just passed Lowell Canyon Drive and kept driving straight towards the Point.
“We’re going to take a little trip.” Christian’s bottom lip trembled slightly and he noticed the way Adrian gripped the steering wheel; his knuckles were turning white.
“I want Kiran! I want to go home!” Christian was shouting and tears ran down his little face, streaking across his chubby cheeks.
“Shut up! Don’t make me hurt you!”
Adrian’s voice was full of anger and Christian’s fear was now very evident. He stopped screaming but there were still tears rolling down his face. Adrian drove to the warehouse located just outside of Seward.
The warehouse belonged to Karani Sinclair and Adrian thought it fitting that Kiran would die there. He had been pleasantly surprised when he found it, and saw it was scheduled to be demolished.
He was happier still, when he found that the demolition had been postponed. Too many things had been happening in their lives for them to worry about that warehouse. He smiled again as he drove the car into the warehouse and pulled Christian out of the car.
“If you run or scream, I will kill Kiran.” Adrian’s voice had an edge to it and Christian believed every word he said. He nodded his head warily.
Adrian pulled Christian alongside him and locked him in a small room that he had prepared beforehand. When he had found the room, Adrian was convinced that it was used for storage since it was so small.
He had placed a small cot inside with a rough army blanket and a thin pillow. As he looked at it now, Adrian wasn’t sure why he had also bought the raggedy blue rabbit that he had seen at the thrift store.
In one corner was an old plastic bucket and near the bed was a bottle of water. The bulb in the center of the room’s ceiling was dim and Christian squinted as he looked around. The door closed behind him and he started to cry again.
In another corner of the room was a mounted camera, recording Christian. Adrian stood in the small office and looked at the screen in front of him, making sure that everything was working correctly.
