Aurelia's POV

Aurelia's POV

When I first met Evelyn, I was in my lowest of lows. I was just about to commit suicide.

It was after the pack regular beatings and insults. As everyone dispersed, I had walked slowly, to an old river that no one really cared about. I was planning to just walk into it, sit in it till the air left my lungs.

But then getting there, there was a girl. Around my age, hair packed in a ponytail and looking into the water, skipping rocks.

I had wanted to go back, for fear of another round of insults but she has stopped me.

" No wait, I did not mean to scare you." She said.

I looked at her in suspicion. She had my pack crest on her right shoulder, which showed that she was from our pack.

Then why was she being nice to me? Or perhaps she did not recognize me as the infamous traitor and murderer whose parents murdered the alpha of the pack?

She still looked at me, with those doe eyes of hers. When she saw I was unwilling to move, she tapped the ground next to her.

" You look stressed, why don't you take a seat?" She asked.

I was beyond confused now. No one from my pack had ever been nice to me, or even cared enough about my well being. Perhaps they were hoping that I would die naturally, saving them all the stress of doing it themselves.

Maybe that's why the beatings were always done till I was on the verge of death, then I would be left alone for about two days, without food or water.

It all made sense, they all did not want a filthy murderer's blood in their hands.

But this girl that stared at me so simply, she was different. She felt different from the multitudes that walked and bullied me every single day of my life.

So, mostly because I was there to die anyways, I decided to take a seat next to her. Hear what she wants to say and kill myself immediately she leaves.

As I got closer, bending down to take a seat on the wet grass. I could see her face stained with tears.

It was not in my place to ask. Definitely not, I was lower than a rogue. But this was someone who had given me the basic bit of respect every human deserves. It just did not feel right to not ask what the matter was.

So, with the little confidence that clung to my chest, I asked her.

" Are you okay?" My voice was small and low, just in case she took it as an insult.

She looked at me.

" Not really. This guy I was dating, Kyle. He cheated on me. And you know the worst part? The girl is like so mid. I know I was supposed to focus on finding my mate but I could have sworn that Kyle was my soulmate. But he was just another douchebag that just wanted someone gullible. I gave him everything" she said, her voice rising and falling as she explained.

I listened to her, nodding slowly at her story. It was just a regular teenage drama something I did not have the luxury of feeling because the teen guys in my pack saw me as unattractive and ugly.

As I listened to her talk more, it sounded like she wished he was there to strangle him and feed his corpse to the fishes in the water.

It terrified me, but in a good way.

It was refreshing to hear her speak. To just listen to her rant about how he was not even a good kisser and how the girl was the pack slut.

I was curious. Did she know who I was? Who she was talking to? At the very least she should be scared. But she seemed so comfortable it made me so comfortable.

I did not want it to end. I did not want her to realize that I was a murderer and run away. It felt nice to have someone to talk to.

But even with these thoughts running through my head, I still asked her.

" Do you know who I am?" I asked, my voice shaking, fearing her reaction and anger.

Perhaps she did not realize it was me, maybe she might ask the alpha to beat me up for even attempting to sit close to her.

She looked at me like I had grown horns on the top of my head.

" Are you not Aurelia?" She asked.

I was take a back.

So she did know who I was.

Was this a trap? Some sort of sick joke by the teens in the pack? To make me feel loved and then dash my hopes as they recorded me?

" I am Aurelia....just did not understand why you did not...hate me" I said softly.

She rolled her beautiful brown eyes.

" Please, the thing about you being a murderer? Just so dramatic. Sure maybe your parents did that, but you didn't. So why must you take the blame for something that happened when you were still a kid. This pack just has serious issues letting go if you ask me" she said, waving it off like it was not a big deal.

As I watched her continue to ramble on and on about Kyle, I could not help but finally feel acknowledged. The feeling was nice. I felt tears spring up in my eyes as I listened to her.

It was something I have never experienced but just watching her talk made it all better.

Finally, she stood up, dusting her skirt and looking down at me.

" Well I have to get going, I have a shift in one hour and I swear Mr bloom is going to have my head if I come late again. Take care aurelia" she said.

I looked at her, watching her turn back to go.

" Wait!" I called out quickly, even before I could stop myself.

She turned back.

" Yh? "

I fiddled with my hands, fear and nerves interrupting my thoughts.

" It was really nice to hear you talk. Not much people treat me like a human. Thank you so much" I said.

She smiled, walking back towards me.

" Well, you just made yourself a friend. My name is Evelyn. I'm always around the pack house and I see you around a lot too. Say hi the next time you see me" she said.

With that, she turned around and left.

Friend....

The word felt foreign in my mouth as I said it aloud.

I had a friend. A pretty one that did not care what they all said or thought of me.

As I looked at the water, I smiled.

Maybe I should postpone dying for now.
