WE ALL ARE WEREWOLVES
After a short break, the men went back to work along with Alpha Enrique. The soup and tea, though did not satisfy their hunger, did help them feel better. The men, who had originally lost all their hope and were tired, had found a new found spirit within them.
The women who were summoned from the villages arrived shortly as well and instead of just serving the food, they too got into the field and started to help their sons and husbands.
Licia was sitting inside the tent with Polene as she watched the people work, there was a smile on their face and a mask of determination. It was true how the smallest effort by someone could bring really big changes in people.
The situation still seemed grim as it was earlier even though so much time had passed but the people too were geared with courage now. No one lost hope for some reason and continued to work through the harsh conditions.
Suddenly, the people heard a commotion from the north and it turned out to be people from the nearby village who had come to help them. Enrique was surprised himself as he hadn't summoned or called these people for help, they had come on their own. This was the first time they were witnessing the harmony between the packs. Even though they were from a whole different settlement, they had come to help their fellow pack members at the time of need.
Both Enrique and Licia were overwhelmed by this gesture!
The Alpha and his men were standing shoulder to shoulder, working together to prevent their town from flooding while enduring that fierce storm. The unity and determination of the people gave strength and encouragement to those who had been exhausted.
Alpha Enrique was no exception as well; he was working along with his people without holding back and was even giving out words of encouragement and motivation to everyone every now and then.
"Don't give up!"
"We are almost done now…"
The man was feeling a fire burn inside him; it was the same fire which he felt when he was serving in the battlefield as a soldier. Alpha Enrique was a warrior, he thought that that the determination and courage he had on the field was because of his survival instincts but now, when he was feeling the same rush inside him amongst these townspeople, he understood that it was not the bloodshed but the unity and goal which kept him motivated.
"Huh?" The men noticed that the force of the drizzle was starting to get lower; they could not believe on what was happening and looked up at the sky.
"Hey, look! Over there."
"The sun… the sun is out! Rain has stopped."
The dark clouds which covered the sky since the morning had finally stopped pouring and were dismantling slowly, letting the sunlight seep down on the town. Both Licia and Enrique looked up at the sky which was finally smiling at them. While Licia was feeling content, Alpha Enrique could not take his eyes off from the sky.
He didn't know what it was but at that moment, he knew that he was never going to forget this feeling in his entire life. The thought that he had managed to save a town and people from getting hurt was bringing him more joy and sense of triumph than what he experienced after winning over the battlefield.
People started to celebrate and cheer over their victory without holding back, there were even women who could not help but break down into tears.
"Licia." Alpha Enrique removed his cloak as he walked towards his wife who was waiting inside the tent for him. The girl stood up and greeted him, "Is the work finished now?"
"Well, about that… there is still some work left." The man said as he stood right in front of her, "But there is no need to panic now since the rain has stopped for now. I asked them to take some rest for the afternoon, have some lunch and then wind up the leftover work. So…" He let out his hand and showed her his palm, "Now, we should also head back home now. I would really enjoy a hot bath now."
Licia clutched her collar looking at his hand which was full of mud and bruises. He was an Alpha and she had seen the hands of many Alpha's in her past; no one's hands were as rough and bruised as his. A sense of happiness well up in her heart because she knew he got those wounds because he was working for his people, as a true leader should.
She smiled at him before taking his hand, "Me too!"
Licia and Enrique rode the same horse back home and as soon as they arrived, they already had the bath prepared for them by Polene who had arrived home before them. As soon as they entered the room, Alpha Enrique started removing his clothes. Licia thought that he must be more dirty and exhausted so he should be the one taking a bath first; she wrapped herself in a towel and proceeded to pick a tone for her.
The man noticed this and asked, "What do you think you are doing?"
Licia asked back, a little confused, "What happened?"
"Didn't you say you wanted to take a bath first?" The man asked, staring at the robe which was in her hand. Licia nodded and said, "Yes! I will bathe after you are done."
Alpha Enrique's eyebrows knitted together as he grabbed her hand and dragged her inside the bathroom.
"I said I wanted to bathe but I didn't mean that I wanted to do it together." Licia protested with an embarrassed face; she was sitting on the man's lap as they both soaked inside the wooden bathtub. Alpha Enrique looked at the girl sitting timidly on his lap, she was trying to cover her breasts but that didn't help much as she was literally naked in his arms.
He said, "So what? We are married and we have seen each other naked a lot of times now. What are you shy about?"
"That's different!" Licia's face glowed red, what he said was true but she was still shy.
The man twitched his lips and grabbed her arms, taking them off her chest. He adjusted her hair and poured a cup of water on her shoulders. Licia's tensed body immediately loosened in his arms, she was surprisingly feeling better now. The man whispered in his ears, "Relax now, I am your husband!"
Licia finally let her guards down and sighed; the water was warm just like the sunlight from earlier. She couldn't help but think back of the magnificent scene she witnessed in the riverbank today. Rank, pack, gender… none of those mattered when everyone was covered in the same mud from the same land they were dwelling in. They were all standing together as they fought against the force called nature.
Licia couldn't help but smile, no matter of they were a Lycan, Alpha or a simple Omega, at the end of the day, they were all werewolves! They stood on the same soil and under the same heavens, blessed equally by the moon goddess.
