Crystal POV
My hands were sweaty and I felt sick to my stomach. How would Melody take the news? I made the decision to be as open and honest as I could be. What did I have to lose, huh. I mean, it was only my whole life that I was risking. The atmosphere in the cottage was almost palpable.
No one would look at me directly. The fact that Lumos was also here, added another layer of tension I did not expect. Every time I played out this scenario in my head. I was only confiding in Melody.I could not stand the tension in the cottage so I decided to stroll around the garden. Melody’S shift would finish soon.
I heard Shadow before I saw her. As usual, I placed a huge smile on my face once I saw the Sleek wolf. Goddess knows I loved this woman. As soon as Shadow saw me, I swear the wolf could grin, she lunged forward. Bounding up to me like she was a puppy, rather than a fully grown wolf.I laughed as the wolf jumped around me. I ran my fingers through her silky coat, relishing in the softness.Shadow looked up into my face, and tilted her head. Mere seconds past then the woman I adored stood in front of me.Melody stood naked, tall and proud. Nonetheless,, her brow was furrowed with concern.“Honey, what’s wrong?
”I smiled sadly at the question. Saying nothing, I took Melody by the hand and led her into the small kitchen. Where everyone else had already gathered. Tara and Lumos would have known that Shadow had arrived. So I was not surprised when I saw the small gathering.“Okay, Honey. You’re scaring me. What’s happened? What’s wrong?”This time, Melody pressed the question harder. I noticed that she glanced quickly around the room as she asked the question. No doubt making sure Tara was here and was unharmed.
“I have something that I need to tell you. And, as it will concern all of you, in one way or another, I have chosen to tell you all at the same time.”I waited for a few seconds, no more than a few heartbeats, really. When nobody spoke, I carried on.“Okay, so. I am just going to rip the band aid off. I have been hiding something from you. Something that will undoubtedly shape our future together. You see, I am, and have been for a very long time, a Mage.
”I waited for the gasp. For the outcry of shock and accusation. My body tense, I waited for the fallout. But nothing happened. I stared, open mouthed at the people present.“Did you hear what I said? Do you understand the implications of being associated with me and my kind?”“Melody? Please say something?” I begged.
Melody merely looked at me, with an almost bored expression on her face. She looked towards Tara, and nodded her head. What the hell was going on?“Mom. We, kind of, all knew that. I have always known who and what you are. And I think I am right in saying that Melody has known for a while, too.”I looked at Melody, my heart was lodged somewhere between my chest and my chin. Making it difficult to speak. My tone was semi-accusatory, “You know? How long have you known?”
Melody simply smiled up at me. She held out her hand to me, which I grasped onto like it was a lifeline.“Honey, I knew within months of meeting you, what you were. It didn’t make any difference to me. So I decided to let you tell me when you were ready to do so. I know you have never willingly used magic in front of Tara and myself. Nonetheless, your power is something too great to be contained. And both Tara and I have witnessed it. Tara came to me a long time ago, asking if you were a witch and what we should do. I told her to look inside her heart for the answer."
I turned my head toward my adopted daughter. My breath hitched in my throat as I saw tears fall from her beautiful eyes.“Mom. I love you. All of you. When Melody told me to look inside myself for the answer, I realised I already had my answer. I love you.”
It was my turn to have tears fall, I looked toward my family. The people who I would die for, who I would kill for. I pulled my lips together in a bid to stop the laughter that was bubbling up my throat. Unfortunately I chose that exact moment to look at Melody. When I realised she was doing the same thing. The laughter won, and burst out of my mouth, followed by everyone else.Melody pulled me into her lap and snuggled under my chin.“Silly witch.”
She whispered.“My goddess, I have been so scared to tell you. For fear I would be putting you all in danger. What an old fool I have been.” I shook my head sadly.“Not that old, surely.”I looked up at Sam, who had spoken the words.I bit my lower lip. Not sure if I should tell them. Melody squeezed me tight to her as she whispered, “Band aid.”I nodded, more to myself than anyone present. I cupped Melody’s face in my palm, and gave her a light kiss on her lips.
Before looking at Sam again.“You recall the conversation we had regarding the Lycan realm. And how my grandmother was one of the three mage’s used to create the spell?”Sam nodded. “Sure.”“Well, it wasn’t my grandmother. It was me. I am over five hundred years old. And one of the original Mages. Created by the same Goddess as werewolves. To act as guardians to the supernatural. We were charged with keeping supernaturals or Supnals, as we call them, a secret from the human world."
"It was a job I undertook with the most sincere reverence. An honour, really. When the Lycans overstepped, a few centuries ago, my sisters and myself created a pocket realm, and sent all Lycans there. It became the new home land for them. As you know, the Lycans are the rulers of us supernatural beings. And we must follow their laws. Some Lycans do walk amongst us. These Lycans are usually placed within the pack structure, and will monitor Pack activity. Then report back to the royals. If laws are broken, then the Lycan guard is sent to deal with it. I worked closely with the guard. Until, one day, I saw the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on. In that moment, my destiny changed.”
By the time i finished speaking, I was once again looking at my mate. I wiped the tears that fell softly down her cheeks, away.“I love you. I have since the first moment, till my last breath. I love you.”Melody kissed me, gently. I heard someone cough, and jumped in surprise. That broke any lingering tension in the air, as we all laughed. Tara rushed over and threw her arms around Melody and I. We hugged each other fearlessly.
