Chapter 70

Ryan McFlame ~

"What's wrong? Can't you wake her up with a spell or something?"

"I wish it was as easy as you asked Ryan, but a magic so dark can have unpredictable effects on a magic like hers. I know the dark spell Cassius uses to take the powers and abilities of magical beings. When a creature's magic is being taken away, It most times, usually, pulls the soul of the creature along with it." Alessia started eyes still on her daughter.

"That's why your brothers and every other creature Cassius has taken down for the past century loose their lives afterwards. As much as it pains me to say." Tears began welling in Alessia' eyes. "She might never wake up and I don't think I can do anything to change that right now."

Everything Alessia said made perfect sense but that couldn't have worked with Elena. Right? She's destined to put an end to Cassius' tyrany. This can't be the end for her.

"Not alone, you can't." Sofia came in walking to Alessia and fixing her hands in hers. "Together, we can do it. She's my daughter too and there's no way I'm going to give up on her especially when I haven't given it a try. We can't give up in her just yet. She's strong and she's in there. We just have to pull her out."

"I will never give up on my Elena. I'm glad knowing neither will you." Alessia responded before she transformed to her witch form.

Alessia staggered but before she could hit the ground, I caught her in my arms and helped her on her feet.

"Are you sure you're strong enough to be casting spells?" I asked.

"I failed her once, I'm never going to do it again." she replied making fists of her hands.

Even at a weak physical state, Alessia still doesn't want to give up on her daughter. Although, I didn't expect her to give up so easily. Strong will and determination are one of the things that made her the lycan queen. At least that's what King Leo told me. Elena is our only hope for peace so as long as there's a possibility of her getting to wake up, I'll be in full support.

"Ryan, I hope you still have some good strength left in you because to do what he intend to, we're going to need your flames. We are practically going to pull her soul out of her body and then set it back in the way it should be. When we do, her powers are going to act according to her mood right before she was knocked out by Cassius." Sofia began.

"You have to create a powerful magical shield that'll prevent her from venting her powers to the entire palace and destroying the coven. And control your flames so they don't cook her alive in the process too." she added giving a sigh.

"I'm guessing this is going to hurt, right?" I asked before I transformed.

"A lot." They both said in unity.

"Well then, let's get this over with. The sooner we get this finished, the sooner I'll heal." I said joining hands with Alessia.

"Ready?"

"Yeah. It's all set." I said closing my eyes as I prepared for the immense physical pain Elena was going to unleash on me if both her mother's plan works out fine.

I enlarged my wings such that they covered the four of us including Elena in an orb of not-consuming flames. I made the burning effects of the flames do down to a level only ants could feel its intensity.

"Profer lucem in tenebris et luceat. Omne malum destrue et sana eius bysso.Profer lucem in tenebris et luceat. Omne malum destrue et sana eius bysso. Profer lucem in tenebris et luceat. Omne malum destrue et sana eius bysso." The two witches chanted as they casted the awakening spell.

After they stopped talking, it took some time before I finally understood what Sofia was talking about. Pain unlike never before engulfed me. It was as if Elena had unleashed all her magic on me. Even for a pheonix, the effects of her outburst was burning. I bore the pain even to the point I knew it would kill me.

And it did.

The pain was just too much for me to take in. I had tolerated enough of it just until it ended before I let the pain take over me.

I died.

Ryan's flames went back into him and the fiery orb containing them with it. Alessia's hand was released from his grip and he fell to the ground. Lifeless.

"Her powers must have been too great even for a phoenix to bear." Alessia suspected using a levitation spell to take him to the far ends of the room.

"He's a phoenix so there's nothing to worry about. He'll be back." Sofia said casting the same wardrobe spell on Ryan's corpse so he'll regenerate with good clothes before she changed back.

"I hope so. If the pain was grace enough to kill him. I fear it might be enough to take away his immortality."

The regeneration flames came up and engulfed Ryan. In no time, he was back to his phoenix self. Once again, he had resurrected. Maybe for the last time.

"Did it work?" I asked getting up from the ground. "It did!"

Elena was seated uprightly on the couch with Alessia and Sofia on each side. Sofia got up to meet me.

"Thank you. The spell worked out just fine and thanks to you, Elena didn't do any damage to the coven." she said with a bright smile.

"It's alright. But I want to ask. Were you aware that even at the slightest, that there was a possibility of that much pain being able to kill me?" I asked Sofia arms crossed.

"Yes. I'm sorry, I should've told you." she apologized holding my two arms with her eyes up to me. "I thought if I told you, you'll refuse doing it so I just avoided telling about the whole dieing part."

"Clearly, if you had told me or not, I would've still done it without hesitation. I'm a phoenix so death's the least thing I fear. I'll do whatever is necessary for Elena to fulfill her destiny even if it includes having to die a couple of times for her sake." I said returning the smile. "Don't worry yourself. I'm not offended. What's important here is that Elena is back with us." I added releasing her hands from my arms as I walked towards Elena.

She looked physically shaken by the spell. She was conscious just not active. I'm guessing her strength is gone. She must have used a whole lot of it on me.

"How is she?" I asked Alessia from where I stood.

"She's weak. She needs to rest." she replied using her hand to rub Elena's temple.

I was right.

My eyes darted to the part of the room where I was coming from and there I saw charlie and Gar. I know a magical spell when I see one and those two are under some spell that immobilized every part of their body.

"You really didn't have to spell them. They aren't a threat to Elena or anyone else here in the coven. She trusts them." I said pointing towards Gar and charlie.

"But they're humans. Or have you forgotten what happened the last time we let a human into our world?" Alessia shot back.

"I can never and will never forget. I get reminded of the consequences everyday I awake and find myself to be the last of my kind in existence." I started with an angered tone and forming fists with both my hands. "But they're different. Trust me." I added calming myself down.

The bare thought of all the damage, destruction and death Cassius has brought to this world since the moment King Frederick brought him in makes me act up. It's so infuriating how much evil Cassius brought out of the good deed Frederick had done to him.

I agree with Alessia that yes, the last human and set foot in our world has left rotten memories that'll forever make us hate and regret him but if b Elena truly trusts them and they were willing to leave both their homes for the sake of their friendship, I am certain Gar and Charlie wouldn't turn out anywhere close to becoming a monster like Cassius. All humans aren't the same.

"I trusted Frederick when he sent word that he had brought a friend of his he trusted from the human world. And what happened?" she said getting up from the long couch. "I lost my mate to him, my brother is in the underworld and someone's always after my daughter's life. All because of him. So no, I'm not trusting anymore humans." Alessia added with a firm tone of finality.

"Can you at least wait for Elena's stand in this before you do anything else to them?" I asked watching her lay Elena back on the couch.

Alessia waved her hand on the couch and it became a bed. Elena was well settled in it.

"I've been with both of them for a very long time. They won't turn out like Cassius. As a matter of fact, they're both risked their lives to protect her and if not for them, you would still be stuck at the lycan castle." Sofia said still trying to convince Alessia of their noble intentions and make her see the good in their presence. "They're here to help her defeat him. Imagine that."

"I'll wait to hear what Elena has to say for them but in the mean time," she broke the spell making Gar and Charlie fall to the ground on their hands and knees.
