Chapter 46: Mom, Please Open Your Eyes
Gabriella.
"Doctor, what is the nature of her illness?" I inquired about it right away.
The attending physician looked at me and then said, "She's doing better, Gabriella," which was reassuring to hear.
"The tests performed on your mother, Gabriella, have been tallied, and we discovered that she possesses certain chemicals in her body. We have not yet determined what those compounds are, but we will soon," he filled me in on it.
"But you shouldn't be concerned because your mother's body is doing OK. Her vital signs, as well as all of her organs, are functioning normally. Perhaps the fact that she is unconscious is due to the chemicals in her body," he gave me his word.
"Thank you very much, Doctor, for the information."
I was sitting next to my mum when the doctor left the room. Even though I was beside her, she did not open her eyes. According to the attending physician's report, her condition was satisfactory; yet, why hasn't she come to yet?
I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. I held her hand while silently pleading with her to open her eyes.
A few hours later, Alpha Viktor made his way to the room. He was accompanied by two warriors who held food for lunch and were carrying it with them. I faced him head-on as I stood there.
"Have you learned anything new, Alpha Victor?" I didn't waste any time and asked him.
He cocked his head to the side, "Not yet, Gabriella. The location of Alpha Arman has not been determined as of yet," That was his response.
He told me that "Luna Amanda had been released from the hospital and that the authorities had taken her into custody after her release."
I opened my eyes because of what he said, "Why? What was the reasoning behind throwing her in jail?" I wondered.
"Gabriella, one of Luna Amanda's servants, which is Gwen, did tell the truth," he said in response.
"Told the truth?"
"Yes. She allegedly told Alpha Javier that Luna Amanda was the mastermind behind the plot to poison her. Gwen was the one to whom Luna Amanda ordered to poison Amanda's drink and place the blame on you."
"Why did Gwen agree?"
"Luna Amanda scared Gwen. Gwen has revealed that Luna Amanda is holding her family captive. She was powerless to do anything other than carry out the instructions given to her by Luna Amanda; if she disobeyed them, she would be responsible for the deaths of her entire family."
I am well aware that I was not the one who poisoned Luna Amanda; nonetheless, I find it hard to believe that she would go to such lengths only to put pressure on me.
Who exactly is Amanda? If you look at it, she is a beautiful woman, and she is okay; nevertheless, why is that? What is she thinking about at this very moment? Is it possible that she did that out of love? "When you love someone, you'll do everything to be with them," as the old adage goes, and it's absolutely true. But what about Amanda? If she doesn't receive what she wants, will she destroy herself?
I cocked my head to the side. I am limited in what I can say about all that I am aware of. Even if Amanda did what you said she did, I can't condemn her for it. I am not aware of the struggles that she is currently facing in life. Absolutely, I am aware that what she did was unethical, and she should be held accountable for her actions. It is up to the Moon Goddess to decide what kind of retribution she should receive for the wrongs she has done throughout her existence.
"Should we eat lunch together? I am aware that you are starving, "Alpha Viktor invited me.
I nodded. We made our way to the table where the fighters had arranged our supper. As we finished eating together, Alpha Viktor bid me another farewell, and we parted ways. He came for the sole purpose of dining with us. Now that this is over, he will return to looking for Alpha Arman.
After what seemed like just a few minutes had passed, there was an unexpected knock on the door of the room where my mother and I were sitting. When the door opened, I saw Javier walking through it, and I grimaced. After sitting for a while, I got up to face him. He brought some fruits, which he arranged on the table once they were brought in.
"Alpha Javier, what business do you have in this place?" I inquired of him in a frank manner.
He sighed and looked at my mother as she lay in the hospital bed.
In response to my inquiry, he asked, "Is she your mother?"
I squinted my eyes and repeated, "Tell me what are you doing here," while I questioned him further.
He looked in my direction. Before responding to me, he took a few moments to compose himself and then said, "I am here to say apologize to you, Gabriella."
"I am sorry that I did not believe you at first. I am fully aware of my error. I am aware that I am to blame for what took place," he filled me in on it.
"When you told me you were innocent, I didn't instantly believe you," he said. "I was skeptical at first."
"Even if Gwen hadn't said anything, you still wouldn't believe it. Would that be true, Alpha Javier?" I questioned him.
"If that's how you think, Alpha Javier, how will you convince me to accept you as a mate again?" I asked more.
"You are aware of what? Alpha Javier, at this time, you do not have the qualifications to be an Alpha. You are not free to make your own choices; rather, everything you do and decide is dictated to you by the other werewolves in the area. You are accustomed to following Alpha Bernard and Luna Gladys, who have your back in all they do. They are your guides. What exactly have you accomplished to earn them the right to put you in charge of the Blood Lust Pack now that they have done so?" I continued.
Because of what I said, he bent his head.
"You allowed Alpha Arman to keep you in servitude, is that it, Alpha Javier?"
He was unable to give a response.
It made me chuckle. "Alpha Javier, I know you are new to that position; nonetheless, to be an Alpha, you need to have a strong mind. It is not what other people think you should do; rather, it is what you actually do. Consider the things you are capable of doing and the skills you possess. Don't let other people control you like a puppet. You must improve yourself and take responsibility for your actions."
He mumbled, "Gabriella, if you help me, I will do it."
"If I will help you? How can you possibly be so certain that I will do what you want me to, Alpha Javier?"
He looked in my direction.
"Because of what you did, Alpha Javier, I was close to passing away, and our child died. And now you're asking for my assistance?"
"Gabriella, as I've already said, I'm not the one who devised the plan for what happened to you. I just could not do that to you, especially after discovering that you were carrying my child! " He remained adamant.
I directed my fury at him, "It was the rogue werewolves that came to you, Alpha Javier because you were the one who commanded them. Do not deceive me because I am aware of your capabilities." I said.
"You made me suffer, and you rejected me. To what end? To accomplish what you want, would you say marrying Amanda is it? You want me to return to you because you screwed up and your choices didn't turn out how you hoped they would, right?"
"No, Gabriella, that's not why I want you to get in touch with me again," His tone of speaking was solemn.
"I am fully aware of the many harmful things I have done to you. I am sorry for the pain that my choice has caused you. But believe me, Gabriella. Have faith that the affection I feel for you is genuine," he did not deny it.
"Gabriella, if only the tragedy that befell you back then hadn't occurred, you would have been my first choice. You are the one I would marry, and you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I could not imagine my life without you." He added.
"But, as a direct result of your actions, that did not occur!"
He placed his hand on her head and "I don't know how many times I have to tell you that I'm not the one who planned the terrible thing that happened to you, but I'm not. Gabriella, I will not allow you to perish or allow our child to pass away!" His tone became sterner.
He pushed on the point, saying, "I knew you were pregnant then. Therefore if I had been instructed to kill you, I would have stopped it."
I showed a frown. "It's not hard to make words mean different things, Alpha Javier. It's not hard to make things up!"
"But I know for sure that there is no wrongdoing on my part. I am innocent, Gabriella!"
As a result of what he stated, I remained silent.
The things that he mentioned did make some sense. Is it not true that he issued the command? If he is not, then the people who assaulted me have no motivation to lie; why would they? Is it accurate that Javier was solely employed as a pressure tactic? But who conceived of this strategy?
My eyes become much larger. Is it even possible that it's Amanda!?
"Amanda?" I asked in a hushed voice.
"Amanda is currently being held in custody, Gabriella."
I turned to gaze at Javier and asked, "If you are not the one who ordered to attack me, Alpha Javier, is it conceivable that Amanda did it?" Javier stared at me and nodded. I asked him.
As a result of what I stated, he did not respond. He pondered, and I knew from my reflection that he was doing the same, considering the various options.
In the midst of the discussion that Javier and I were having, both of us were startled to hear a moan. Almost immediately, I turned to look at Mom, who was lying in bed. When I watched him move his head, my eyes immediately widened in response.
I hastened over to speak with Mom.
"Mathias..." She called my father.
"Mom? Please tell me you are awake! Open your eyes!"
"Matthias, please help me!" she pleaded. She squeaked out an answer.
"Mom, I'm here."
I turned around and glanced at Javier, who was just behind me.
"Get in touch with a physician!" I commanded him.
He dashed out of the room to contact the attending physician. The physician and two nurses arrived shortly after. When he first met Mom, he did not waste time analyzing her.
"Doctor, what exactly is going on with her?" I inquired, tense and concerned about what was taking place with Mom.
The physician did not respond. He was really engaged in analyzing the state of my mum at the time. Something is being done with Mom by the doctor right now. Because I have a lot of faith in the physician, I am not very concerned about what is happening with my mother.
Soon after, I noticed that Mom was opening her eyes. I was eager to approach her, and I grabbed both of her hands. She gazed at me in a contemplative manner. As soon as she saw me, she compelled herself to grin, and I couldn't help but return the gesture.
She spoke to me faintly and said, "Gabriella, you are here."
I responded with, "Yes, mum, I am here."
I increased the pressure that I was applying to her hand. Even though she has not fully recovered her strength, the fact that she is now conscious is the most important thing. Mom and I will be in the same place again. I promise to do everything I can to ensure that mom and I are never parted again.
