Chapter 14
Chapter 14
As Marcus left the room, all the worries in the world seemed to descend on him at once. He had been holding himself back from the main situation since a distraction overtook. Now, the distraction was over and Marcus had to face his real fear.
Rose! Marcus's lover!
Had Rose really died? If she had died truly, was it true that the spirit and soul in her now belonged to someone else?
No! This couldn't be. It had to be a form of superstition and overthinking. The body was Rose's and the spirit and soul had to be hers as well. All these could be accredited to stress. It was only loss of memory and Rose was going to be fine.
But wait… Marcus hadn't done all what he was supposed to do. He should question Rose more. He had to be sure whether this was her subconscious or if she had a real different soul. Rose had to know.
Marcus thought about all these as he walked along. He was lost in his own thoughts and he didn't know where he was passing. This made him surprised when one of his guards tapped him gently on the shoulder.
"What!" Marcus had exclaimed due to shock. He was practically shaking in fear. He was already in a different planet and that tapping had brought him back to the world where every other person existed.
"Sorry for tapping you, Sire, but all I wanted to ask was where we are heading to? Once more, forgive me for taking that swift and inconsiderate action," the guard who tapped Marcus said slowly.
Marcus was angry because the guard had made him shocked. On the basis of this, Marcus decided to unleash his anger towards the guard.
"How dare you make so much noise and scare me! What sort of question are you also asking? Aren't we heading somewhere? All you have to do is follow my lead, fool! Stop making a situation out of nothing!" Marcus shouted at the guard. He was literally spitting fire in anger now.
"But Sire…" the guard said carefully. "I am only saying this because…"
"Shut up your mouth! I don't want to hear anything from you! This is the problem with those who claim to be perfectionists like you. You don't want to take corrections and this is one thing I hate so much!" Marcus shouted angrily. He was ready to drag this case with the unreasonable guards.
"I am very sorry, Sire, but would you hear me out please?" The guard began to say again. He was practically begging for an audience but Marcus was too angry to let that happen. Marcus was ready to let the guard understand who was the boss there.
"No! I give you no permission to talk here. Try to accept corrections at times! You are nothing but a guard but you act like you are more than that!" Marcus shouted at the guards.
"Calm down, Sire…" the guard said slowly. "I accept that I am very wrong here but let me say something. I am sure that if you allow me to make this statement, it would definitely change everything here. I plead that you allow me make this statement!"
"Shut your dirty mouth, Mr. Pig!" Marcus shouted at the guard. "You have wasted so much words just because you wished to ask for permission to say something. Before you continue, I will like to ask you something. Did you ask for permission to ask my permission?"
The guards were looking dumbstruck. They couldn't comprehend what Marcus said at first. They thought about it deeply but it was only a repeat of words on their mind.
Marcus waited for the guard to reply but when he heard none, he had to persist. It never came to Marcus's mind that the guards might not understand what he meant.
"Can't you answer me? Or don't you understand what I have been saying since?" Marcus asked impatiently. "Or you are probably telling me to keep barking like a dog, right?"
"No, Sire!" All of the guards answered in unison. They looked at themselves after answering this question. Following this, the guard who had tapped Marcus before began to talk now.
"Well, the thing is that…" the guard began. He was stuttering out of fear. He didn't want to get punished over his goodwill or should it be called inquisitiveness.
"Go straight to the point and stop stuttering! I can't believe that a grownup man would be acting like a nervous woman! This is so surprising that I have to express it properly," Marcus noted. Now, he began to laugh.
"Well, I was about to tell you the most unfathomed part of all this escapade. Like I said, it's going to change the narrative," the guard said once more. His voice wasn't at its best but it was definitely better than before.
But Marcus wasn't patient enough to listen to the guard. Truthfully, the guard was displaying too much senselessness and also giving too much suspense but even at that, Marcus was supposed to display his maturity and let the illiterate guard do what only an illiterate would do.
It was unfortunate that Marcus possessed not enough patience. This usually assisted in making more conflicts successful under the watchful eye of Marcus.
"Can you go straight to the point? I am tired of always have to rigmarole. You would do me a very big favor by letting me know what I have to in time. I can't wait this long…" Marcus said angrily. His voice displayed his anger in its depth.
"Okay, Sire," the guard finally replied. "This means I have your permission to proceed, right?"
"Yes, go on!" Marcus replied. He was anticipating what the guard was going to say.
The guard sighed.
"Well, the reason why I tapped you was to protect you. You seemed lost in thought and that was the only way to stop your head from being smashed on the wall…" the guard said slowly.
"What do you mean? Do you plan to smash my head on a wall?" Marcus asked soberly.
"No, Sire," the guard said. "Check your front!"
Now, Marcus gazed at the front. He could see a wall.
Oh my! Marcus would have hit his head on a wall because he was in a deep thought.
