Chapter 11
Everywhere remained tense. The argument between the high doctor and Marcus was getting out of hand and Xeno, who was supposed to help let peace reign didn’t seem to know what to do. Instead of solving the critical situation, Xeno was only pouring fuel into the raging fire.
Xeno’s last statement took hold of Marcus and made me ingest more pride and anger. Over this situation, Marcus decided to make a decision which would overturn the crisis. Marcus was going to punish the high doctor so that the incident would be used as an example to other people who might be tempted to try such in the future.
“It’s well…” Marcus began by saying. “I have listened carefully to both submissions and I know what to do. The high doctor here, has not only disrespected me alone. He had disrespected the whole pack. Also, he went as far to say that he wasn’t only talking about me or this pack. He was also insulting every living Alpha on the surface of the Earth. This is the first time I am seeing this kind of guts. Is he not stupidly bold?”
“He is stupidly bold, Alpha Marcus,” Xeno supported. “…And for this, he must be used a scapegoat. Others will learn from his mistakes or should I call it idiotic actions.”
“But Sire…” the high doctor began. “This issue hasn’t escalated to that point. I believe there is still room for a resolution and forgiveness.”
One of the guards in the room shook his head slowly. The high doctor didn’t sound intelligent at all. He was probably thinking that he would only suffer a mild punishment because of his status and the position he held in the pack. What the high doctor didn’t know was that Marcus was really angry and he was capable of making a hasty decision which could even haunt him forever. The sad thing was that an Alpha’s decision couldn’t be overturned. If Marcus asked for the high doctor’s head at that moment, he was going to get it.
Did the high doctor know this? Yes, he did. However, he might have forgotten.
Who knows?
If he really knew, he probably won’t make such statement. It was one which could lead to his untimely death.
But Marcus was ready to rule his decision and close the argument.
“This is exactly what you are saying that annoys me the most…” Marcus began. He was talking to the high doctor. “I can hear you say that you believe there is still room for resolution and forgiveness. Don’t you know it is a crime to believe you have dominion or control in a case which involves your Alpha? I guess you don’t know but it’s no bother, I will make sure I teach you the hard way!”
“Okay…” the high doctor began again. This time, his voice was cooler and he had learnt some lessons. “I understand that I have been foolish and proud at the same time. I beg your pardon, Alpha Marcus, how can I plead for your forgiveness and what do I need to do to make you forgive me totally from your heart and also erase every memory of this statement? I need to know because this is my mission towards you!”
This was a fairly long statement made by the high doctor but everyone including Marcus listened to him carefully. They were eager to pick some traces of pride but fortunately for the high doctor, none of them found any fault in his most recent statement.
It was expected that Marcus treated the case with some pity and give the high doctor a rule to abide by, but instead of doing this, Marcus did something totally different. He drove against the odds.
“Will you shut your dirty mouth now or would you rather continue ranting?” Marcus began. He was angry and his facial expression depicted it. Everyone who had been expecting a peaceful resolution had to manage their expectations.
This time, the high doctor used his senses. Instead of arguing unnecessarily or dropping lines which could infuriate the high doctor, he humbled himself and talked coolly. Even from the tone of his voice, one could tell that he was really trying to effect a settlement. He didn’t want to be punished by the Almighty Alpha of the Driftwood pack.
“I am very sorry, Alpha Marcus, but I am still pleading for your forgiveness. I have erred greatly and what I need right now is to see forgiveness from you. Forgive me, Sire. Show your tender mercies!” the high doctor pleaded. He had lost his pride and he was now embracing humility.
At this point, Xeno felt that it was the best time to come in. The problem could be easily resolved now that the high doctor had accepted that he had his wrongdoings.
“I beg that you forgive the high doctor…” Xeno began carefully. “All of us are aware of the fact that the high doctor spoke dangerously and rudely but even still, he had accepted his faults and the best thing to do as a responsible person is to forgive me with a warning never to try such again.”
After Xeno was done speaking, Marcus began to laugh wildly. No one knew the reason why. He continued laughing like a mad man while everyone wondered what was going on with their Alpha.
“Now, I guess you are the next person to disrespect me, Xeno…” Marcus began. Every sign of laughter had been erased from his face. He was angry.
“No, Sire!” Xeno said slowly. “I will never disrespect you in this lifetime. I am your Beta and my first and foremost duty is to respect you…”
“But you are here telling me what a responsible leader should do, right? Is it your duty to lecture me?” Marcus said quickly. He was very fast-paced.
“No, Alpha, I wouldn’t do that…” Xeno’s voice trailed off.
But Marcus had better things to do. Marcus pointed at the maids.
“Take the Luna to the bathroom and give her a bath…” Marcus began. “I will rule against Xeno and the high doctor now!”
