Chapter 51-Gone?
Rome's POV
The last of the pack members departed, leaving behind a solemn silence that seemed to echo the weight of our loss. Alpha Ace and I remained at the site of the ceremony. The air was heavy with grief, but there was also an unspoken understanding between us—a shared determination to see justice served and our pack protected.
Alpha Ace approached me, his expression grave yet resolute. "We must act swiftly," he said, his voice low but firm. "The enemy that threatens our pack must be rooted out before they can inflict further harm."
I nodded in agreement, feeling a surge of determination coursing through me. "We will begin our preparations immediately," I replied, my voice echoing with resolve. "Together, we will bring an end to this threat and ensure the safety of our pack."
I entered the pack house, my thoughts were consumed by the events of the day and the urgency of our mission. Yet, amidst the chaos and tension, there was a part of me that longed for the familiar comfort of Zendaya's presence. She had been a source of strength and support, and I found myself yearning for her company in moments of uncertainty.
Making my way through the corridors, I finally reached Zendaya's room. My hand poised to knock, and a sudden realization swept over me. The day's hunt had left me covered in grime and sweat, far from the presentable state I wished to be in when seeing her. Reluctantly, I lowered my hand and turned away, deciding to retreat to my own quarters first.
Entering my room, a heavy sigh escaped my lips. The events of the day weighed heavily on my mind, and I couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment at our lack of progress. This hunt was meant to yield significant results, yet all we had discovered was tragedy and loss. It was a sobering reminder of the challenges we faced and the urgency of our mission.
Undressing, I made my way to the shower, feeling the warm water cascading over my tired muscles. As the steam filled the enclosed space, I let my thoughts drift to Zendaya once more. I wondered how she was faring, spending the day among unfamiliar faces in the pack. It pained me to think of her feeling lonely or isolated, especially when I couldn't be there to offer her comfort.
After washing away the day's exhaustion, I dressed quickly, opting for whatever clothes I could find. With Zendaya on my mind, I left my room and headed straight for hers. Pausing at her door, I knocked softly, hoping for a response. When none came, I hesitated for a moment before turning the handle and entering her room.
Stepping into Zendaya's room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of intrusion, even though we were mates. Her space was a sanctuary, and I hoped she wouldn't mind my sudden entrance. Glancing around, I took in the familiar surroundings, noting the personal touches that adorned the space. From the cozy bedding to the small trinkets on the bedside table, each item seemed to reflect a piece of her personality. She must have brought them with her.
"Zendaya?" I called out softly, unsure if she was present. There was no response, and a pang of disappointment flickered within me. Perhaps she was elsewhere in the pack house or had stepped out for some fresh air.
Deciding not to linger, I turned to leave, pausing for a moment to glance back at her room. I needed to see her. Her presence alone had the power to comfort me and I needed that comfort today more than ever since we lost one of our own.
Feeling a pang of concern, I began searching the pack grounds, starting with the garden where Zendaya often found solace. To my dismay, she was nowhere to be found. Frustrated and worried, I questioned the other pack members, but none had seen her. Their assurance that she typically took afternoon naps in her room only heightened my anxiety.
Could she have left the pack grounds without informing anyone? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. No, I reasoned, Zendaya wouldn't jeopardize her safety like that. There had to be another explanation for her absence.
Maybe there was a perfect explanation as to why I couldn't find her. I thought for a second and remembered she liked hanging out in the kitchen. Maybe I was worried for nothing and she was just helping out in the kitchen.
I burst into the kitchen, and the sight of the busy omegas brought a wave of relief. Perhaps I had been overreacting. Zendaya likely found solace in helping out here, just as she often did. The room fell silent as all eyes turned to me, the Alpha King. Even Soon, whose name Zendaya had mentioned before, seemed taken aback by my sudden appearance.
"How can we help you, Alpha King?" Soon's voice broke the silence, her tone respectful yet tinged with curiosity.
"Have you seen Zendaya? I have been looking for her all over?" I asked, urgency evident in my tone.
"Zendaya? I thought you asked her to come see you?" She answered.
"What do you mean I was looking for her? I just arrived."
"What is going on?"
"Tell me everything, Soon."
"Silvia came to the kitchen and told Zendaya you were looking for her. That's the last time I've seen her."
"Silvia?" I repeated my voice tight with concern.
"Yes, Silvia," Soon confirmed, her brows furrowed in confusion. "She said you were looking for Zendaya."
My mind raced as I tried to piece together Silvia's motives. "Thank you, Soon. If you see Zendaya, please let her know I'm looking for her," I said hastily before turning on my heel and rushing out of the kitchen.
I had a bad feeling about this.
