Rosemary was sitting next to the hospital bed that held her unconscious son. Greg and Sara had just left, as Sara wasn't feeling too good. I had just finished talking with Dr. Julia. We both had notice the absence of Jonas's father. He apparently phoned the hospital and spoke with a young she-wolf. Eve thought she stood in front of the two of us and told us what Phil Quint had said i was alerted by Sapphire that she was in fact lying. I didn't want to say anything to Rosemary as she was upset enough already. She kept saying to herself, 'who would do this?' Over and over. Did I have the heart to tell her I suspected her husband? No, I didn't.
Walking back over to the bed and sitting on the opposite side to rosemary, I picked up Jonas's limp hand, and like so many times before, I brought it to my lips and said a prayer. Holding his hand and squeezing gentle, I was desperate for him to squeeze my hand again, like earlier today. But after he had done that, he went limp again. Dr. Julia believes that Jax has put him in an induced coma so he can heal himself and then try to heal Jonas. Unfortunately, Aconite was particularly toxic to werewolves. Wolfsbane was bad enough, it would dull our senses and take away some strength we hold within our bodies. It didn't stay in our systems long. 48 hours maybe, and our wolves could heal us both completely from it. Aconite on the other hand was deadly to us. How Jonas was still alive was simply a miracle. That was why the council of elders had banned the substance. And could be punishable by death if you were found carrying it. Where had Phil gotten it? Only one name sprung to my mind. ZACHARY!!
He had finally made his move by trying to kill the Alpha of Alpha's. And he was using Phil and his cronies to do it. I just didn't know why? Why was he doing this to his own son? I could see Rosemary crying again, so I reached out and took her hand in mine. Immediately we were aware of an electric currant running along our arms and into our hands, and in turn into Jonas, whose hands we were still holding.
Sapphire shouted in my mind that she could sense Jax again. And told me she was going to try and speak with him. I relayed this to Rosemary, and we both waited with bated breath. Rosemary was looking at me in quiet desperation when she saw one of my eyes changing colour and Sapphire stepping forward. I waved Dr. Julia over, as she needed to hear this.
i bowed my head to Rosemary in reverence to her as Jonas's mom. When she nodded back and gave a timid smile, Sapphire started to speak. "Jax is healing slowly. He cannot attempt to heal Jonas yet, as trying might kill them both. You were right, Dr. Jax has drawn Jonas back into his mind so he can protect him. Jax doesn't remember much, but he remembers Jonas saying they would go for a quick run before going to see their mate. Before Jonas left the office, his father's old beta had come to see him. He wanted to talk to Jones about his father. He made them both a drink. He sat there with them for about 10 minutes. He can't remember anything after that. Not until earlier today when he heard me calling for him. And now he finally has the strength to tell you what he knows.
He had drawn back again, but assures us that he will work on healing Jonas as soon as he is strong enough". Silenced followed. Everyone was trying to digest the information. My head was spinning, what did it mean? Has Phil roped in his old Beta to help in whatever he is trying to do?
One thing was certain, I needed to speak with Steve Johnstown. Sooner the better. Rosemary looked at me with fresh tears on her lashes. "Do you think Phil is involved in this? Maybe that is why he hasn't come to the hospital to see our son," anger flashed in her eyes. You could see the change in her, she was no longer the weeping mother. She was now a pissed off mother, and she was angry.
Chosen my words carefully, I told her that I did think that Phil may have been involved. I also told her I was holding off a judgment until I could speak to the old Beta. Nodding in agreement, Rosemary told me, not asked, told me that she was going to be in the office when I spoke with Steve. I could see by the determination in her eyes and chose not to argue with her. "Okay, but you must let me do the talking first, okay?" Rosemary stood up, lent over her son, and placed a loving kiss on his forehead. Then she walked over to where I was sitting, I stood up as she got close. Holding both of my hands in hers, she said softly but firmly, "I will defer to you, of course Luna. But... if I find out that Phil is somehow involved in this, I cannot be held responsible for my actions". Looking back at her i notice how tired she looked. Since finding out Jonas had been poisoned, she had been in the hospital with him. Grasping her hands back, I told her that I would leave the punishment to her if we found out Phil was involved. This seemed to satisfy her, "When will you hold the meeting?" She asked me. Thinking for a second, I linked with Molly and asked her to contact Steve and tell him to go straight to my office. "I will speak with Phil as soon as he shows up, which should be soon. So we should go to my office now." Turning back to Jonas, I too kissed him, but my kiss was on his lips. How I loved kissing this man, my heart seemed to clench at the thought of never kissing him again. I closed my eyes, as a few tears escaped down my cheeks. Brushing them aside, I assured Jonas I would be back as soon as I could. Clearing my throat as I walked toward the Doctor's office, I popped my head around and told her rosemary and myself were leaving. As I said it, Wyatt stepped onto the ward. He was with a few other warriors.
After I had explained the situation to Wyatt, who was looking murderess, I stationed two warriors next to Jonas's bed and two warriors by the ward doors, and instructed no one was allowed to see Jonas while his mother and me were away. Wyatt decided to be on the main door, as he wanted to make sure no one got through. I smiled at him and thanked all the warriors, who assured me of Jonas's safety. Linking my arm through Rosemary's we left the hospital. As expected, many pack members outside the hospital are waiting for news of their Alpha. I could hear Rosemary groan softly and was about to 'ask' the Pack to let us through when I saw my father, Greg and Martha, parting the crowd to allow us to walk straight through And get to the pack house with ease. As we entered the house, I could hear my father strong voice telling everyone outside that they would Find out for them and let everyone know. I linked quickly to my father and thanked him.
Once inside I saw Molly standing in the entrance hall, confused why she was just standing there. I walked over to her and asked what was going on. "Luna, I thought it better to hold the meeting with Steve in the Alpha's office, as you are now acting Alpha in Jonas's absence. When I went to the office, the door was ajar. I didn't think anything of it until I realised there was someone inside the office. I knocked lightly on the door. I was told to enter, and I found Phil sitting in the Alpha's chair behind his desk. He had paperwork strewn all over the desk as if he was looking for something. I sorry to say i just left him there and said nothing. I wanted your opinion on what should happen next, so I waited here for you" Molly had finished her explanation when the main door opened and Steve walked in. As he opened the door Phil arrived in the entrance hall. All five of us just stared at each other for a few seconds. Phil was the one to break the silence, "ah, good. You're already here, Steve. We have much to sort out" and without speaking a word to his mate or me. he spun on his heel and walked back to Jonas's office. Not realizing Steve had not followed him. Who was looking at me. He was clearly worried and chose to stay by me. Squaring my shoulders i too walked in to Jonas's office and asked what the hell Phil thought he was doing sitting behind that desk. Before he gave me an answer, Rosemary and Steve joined us. Again Steve chose to stay by my side.
"I'll ask you again Phil, what do you think you're doing sitting behind THAT desk? You have no right to even enter this office without the Alpha or Luna being present. Even with your status within the pack, it does not give you this right." I was getting more anGary with him by the second. I could feel Sapphire very close to the surface and as angry as I was at this blatant disrespect.
"As the former Grand Alpha, I have assumed the role of acting Alpha as my son is incapacitated. You should be relieved Genieve, it means the weight of the pack will not fall on your delicate shoulders" I could clearly hear the malice in the words and watched as a smug smile appeared on his face. Rosemary was standing shoulder to shoulder with me and looking at her mate with disgust "our son is laying in a hospital bed. Someone has poisoned him, he could have died and the only thing you're concerned with is running the pack?" The last part was shouted at him as her restraint started to slip. I could see she was very close to shifting, so I stepped back. The next thing I saw was Mara breaking free. She stood next to me but was growling at her mate. Her whole body was trembling with rage. Laying my hand on her soft fur, I calmed her down. Stroking the angry wolf while I looked at the shocked look on his face almost made me laugh. I could see Phil was clearly afraid of Mara but I didn't understand why he had not shifted into Jorah. It was Sapphire who told me why he hadn't changed, she could sense something was wrong with him. I suddenly knew what and decided to take the bull by the horns. "First, get out of that chair! Second, apologized to Rosemary! And last, but not least, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY OFFICE!".
