shaking her head, Rosemary sent me a pitying look that made her own beautiful face sad.
"You see" She began, "When a wolf takes a she-wolf, there is a marking ceremony where the wolf will mark his she-wolf, and the two say vows and swear before the goddess to stay true and always be together". I nodded my head at her words and told her that I knew that much, having heard my parents talk about it.
''Nowadays, it’s more like a human wedding, and not as traditional as the old wolf ways. Back then, there were more fated mate matches. Now it's just a physical attraction. They don’t want to wait for the fated mate, even if the goddess would lift it, so they choose one that will make a good wife and mother. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with doing it that way. We would have a lot fewer wolves in the pack if we didn’t allow this, but you are different to all that, my dear. Both you and my son have been blessed by the goddess and have found the other half of your souls. Do you understand?"
I nodded at her but was still confused about one thing. I didn’t want to appear stupid, but I simply had to know, as my anxiety was growing by the second.
I started to frown, and I could feel my anxiety rev up a few notches.
"What I don’t understand is why there is a ceremony. Isn't the act of marking someone more intimate than that?'
I could feel myself blush at the words I had spoken and was about to tell her, not to worry about the question when she took my hands again and smiled a gentle and loving smile. "Genevieve, your fated mate is an Alpha, that makes it different, but more than that, he is also the Alpha of all Alphas. Therefore, a special ceremony must take place when he takes a she wolf and becomes Luna to all Luna’s".
I gasp at this new information. I had no idea Jonas was the Alpha of Alphas, why hadn’t anyone told me? It all made more sense now, why my father/Daniel had been so submissive to him, and my brother. I remembered how Lucas had shown Jonas his neck as an act of submission. My eyes widen at this knowledge, as I finally understood what Gregory had meant when he said his alpha was special to his pack. Jonas was indeed special, and suddenly I felt very small and insignificant. Rosemary could see my face fall slightly and gathered me into a hug.
"My darling girl, you have nothing to worry about. The Goddess never makes mistakes, never. I am positive you will be our Luna".
We pulled out of the hug as Jonas and his father walked back into the office. Looking up at my mate, I could see the concern on his face. It still amazed me how I could be so in tune with this man after such a short period.
'Is everything okay Genni? What's wrong"?
The question was quickly asked, as he seemed to cover the distance between us in two strides. He was squatted next to me now, looking into my eyes to see if he could read anything in them.
He cupped my cheek as if I was the most precious thing in the world to him, and waited for my response. But before I could say anything, his mother spoke first.
"You may well ask what's wrong"! Rosemary admonished Jonas, she stood but stayed by my side and carried on
"This dear girl has had no instruction or guidance as to what will happen next. Now you two are fated mates. Nothing".
I could see Rosemary getting upset, so I reached out my hand this time to take the other women’s and said quietly, "I'm so sorry I don’t know what to do, I’m sorry I didn’t realise what my position in the pack would be. Please don't be angry with Jonas".
"And!!! That's another thing", Rosemary was annoyed now, almost angry,
"Is there any reason why this girl didn’t know how you are!! Who you really are?"!!?
Rosemary was looking between Jonas and her husband now, and the latter was frowning at his son
"Jonas? What is the meaning of this? Genevieve does not know who you truly are"?
Phil had pulled himself up to his full height, and where he was not taller than Jonas, he was still an impressive height. Phil walked over to his wife and stood with his arm around her. I’m sure the three of us holding on to each other must have looked odd.
Jonas didn’t bother to stand straight, whether it was out of respect that the people in front of him were his parents, or because he knew he was in trouble.
"I can explain, please let me"?
At his father's nod, everyone sat again. This time, Rosemary sat next to Phil on one sofa, and Jonas and I sat on the opposite one. Jonas didn’t put his arms around me as he had done in the past, in fact, he didn’t touch me at all. This made me weary of what I was about to hear. WTF was going on here?
"When I received the birthday invite from the Luna of the Blue Diamond Pack, I admit I put it to one side. I didn’t want to attend another coming-of-age party, so I was going to make an excuse and send a gift".
He looked apologetically at me as he said this. I have to admit, the thought of him brushing my birthday off as casually as he did upset me a little. I said nothing and let him continue.
"The day after I received the invitation and the day I was going to state that I was not available, I received a second invitation, only this one had a different date on it. Then I realised the actual invitation itself was different, more elegant, more simple, but it intrigued me. Why send out 2 invites with different dates on them? So I decided to go and have a look. I can't tell you why, I only know that when I saw the new date something pulled at me. I can't explain it, but I knew at that moment that I was going to find something I had been looking for, without knowing it, my whole adult life".
At this pronouncement, all three of us gasped, and I found three sets of eyes staring at me.
"As soon as I reached the pack house, I could smell her. It almost forced me to lose control of Jax.
"I couldn’t see her yet, but I knew my mate was there somewhere. After I entered the house, Alpha Daniel greeted me, and I was in the process of being scolded by the Luna when my mate literally ran into me. I felt like I was struck by lightning,
He said, looking at me softly and pleadingly at his parents.
"You ran away from me and I was beside myself. I had told everyone to stay where they were, so I could go after you and find you, and of course, they listened.
When you asked me how your father and brother had listened to me, I assumed you knew of me and who I was. And when I realised you didn’t know about me being the Grand Alpha, I admit it made me love you all the more, as I knew you loved ME and not the station being mated to me would bring you". At this rosemary, she got up and walked over to her son. She sat down next to him and said "Oh Sweetheart, I can understand why you would like that, but you were already fated mates, it wouldn’t matter if you were simply an omega, all that matters is your soul connected to Genevieve".
She was smiling now at the two of us. And holding her hand out to her husband she once again told the men they were to leave, as there was more to discuss with me. And it was, women’s talk!
Jonas looked seriously put out at this, and without thinking I laughed and kissed him on the cheek. Realising what I had done, I blushed to the roots of my hair, but that just made him laugh then. He quickly kissed me back, before his mother pushed him out of the room.
