***Genni POV***
“Not in the way you think. You are very much alive Trix. You being a spirit wolf only means that for as long as your charge is alive, so will you be”.
Trix was looking at me dumbstruck and I couldn’t help the smile that played along my lips.
“Trix, its ok. Let me explain this to you better, I’m sure I’m making you freak out; I can tell by the look on your face”.
As Luna I was always having ‘that look’ show on peoples faces. It was the look of total trust in my abilities. And the knowledge that I would protect my pack with everything I ad inside me.
That was the look Trixie was giving now. Her beautiful eyes wide and innocent.
I could feel my heart squeeze.
“Trix, as Evie’s spirit wolf you are gifted with the ability of protection. That means you will be stronger than the average wolf, faster, smarter. That type of thing.
As you know, Evie is not a normal baby. The fact that the moon goddess had a direct hand I her creation means that Evie will not have a normal wolf life span”.
I could hear the faint gasp coming out of Trix’s mouth as she finally understood what I was saying.
***Trix POV***
I could hardly believe in what I was being told. I looked at my luna, then over to my precious Evie. My heart swelled with pride as I understood what this baby meant to me.
“Do you think I was always fated to be a spirit wolf for Evie?”
I knew the answer, I just needed clarification.
Luna Genni smiled and nodded. I nodded back. Knowing now that not only was this meant to be, but also that I was going to live for a very long time.
I didn’t know if it would mean I would never find my mate. I didn’t want to ask Luna if that would be the case. That was personal, and I doubt very much that the alpha and luna of our pack cared about who my mate would or could have been.
The luna was getting ready to leave when I noticed her eyes glaze over for a split second before urgently telling me to stay with the baby. Nodding, I ran over to Evie’s crib when we all heard the door to my room burst open and an almost feral growl rip through the air.
Even though I jumped out of my skin in fright I noticed that the baby slept on. As if unworried about the sate of my door or who, in fact the intruder was. I heard the Luna suck in her breath and almost sob out a name. I didn’t quite catch it as I was concentrating on the giant man/wolf that now stood in my living room. Chest heaving and barely clothed. Luna spoke again, this time I heard what she said. I looked at her, wanting her to explain why this was happening.
Before I could ask the hulking, great man walked over to me. He stood there, glaring at me, as if I had angered him in some way. I reached out toward him only to recoil as he shouted, “YOU CAN NOT BE MY MATE!”. He then turned on his heel and sped out of my apartment. Leaving my heart in pieces.
Again, I turned to my Luna for answers “What the hell was that all about” I managed to stammer.
Shaking her head at the broken door I saw her sigh. She turned to look at me face on and I thought I could detect a faint smile on her lips. WTF
“It would seem that your ‘Mate’ is in fact my missing brother, Lucas!”
