**Genni POV**
The following day, Julia presented three young she-wolves for the role as Nanny to Evie. I already knew one of the young women. Her name was Bellatrix, but people called her Trixie. I knew who she was, as she had been interviewed over her enquiry to join the lower rank community.
I remember seeing her waiting outside Molly's office door. I also remember the way her eyes bulged out of their sockets at the sight of Jonas and myself. This was before he had been struck down with the poison.
Today, I found myself sitting opposite Trixie, she was clearly nervous. I tried to calm her nerves by sending some healing energy to her. And I think it had worked. Trixie seemed to have calmed somewhat. So....
''Has Molly told you anything about the position you are applying for?'' I asked quickly. Expecting the same response as the last two candidates.
Instead, Trixie's response shocked me, but also made me smile.
''Actually, Grand Luna, your Grace. I wasn't part of the group the Beta had picked. I overheard one of the girls talking about being interviewed by you. I got to admit, it made me shudder at the image of her watching your baby. The she-wolf I'm speaking about has no experience with children of any age'
She stopped suddenly, maybe she had said too much. I didn't know ''So, Trixie. Why did you think you would be better at the job? I assume that was the point you were trying to make? That you would be better suited to the work?''.
Trixie looked nervous again, but I could also see her(meticforicly speaking) square her shoulders before she spoke ''Grand Luna, your Grace. I am the eldest of seven. My brothers and sisters range in age from 17 down to the baby of the family, who is two this year. My mother has always struggled with her health after fighting in a rouge attack, many years before Alpha Jonas took over from his father. I have been like a second mother to my younger siblings. I feel I have the experience and ability to look after your daughter. I know I am young, but I am fit and healthy. And ready to protect Evie''.
When Trixie had finished speaking, the silence stretched out between us like someone unfurling a blanket. My head tipped one way, then the other, as I took stock of the young women.
''I need someone that I can call upon. Day or night. Someone who will always put Evie first. I, we, need to be able to leave Evie with you, should you get the job. That means I, we, would need whomever to live here in the packhouse. Would that be an issue?'
***Trixie POV***
I couldn't believe I had summoned enough courage to walk into the packhouse today. I couldn't believe I was sitting opposite the Grand Luna herself. Just that thought made me shiver with excitement. I answered her questions quickly and clearly. Then came the question of staying in the pack house. My heart soared, this was what I wanted. Trying to remain calm, I answered ''It will not be a problem, your Grace. I would have no problem looking after this sweet babe anytime, day or night'' I confirmed.
I relaxed a little when I saw the luna smile to herself. I hope that meant I had gotten the job. And waited with baited breath.
''I like you, Trixie'' said the luna ''I like that you took the initiative to come here today. That shows me you're not afraid to chase what you want. But also shows a determination that I admire. Unfortunately, I am not the only one you will need to impress. Allow me to introduce my daughter to you''.
As the Luna spoke, I saw the Alpha walk out with Evie in his arms. I froze as the Alpha walked toward me.
This was going to be the real test. I saw the Luna nod, then the Alpha gently placed the baby in my arms.
Genni POV
Trixie's whole face lit up. Jonas and I waited for the scream to come from the baby, which let us know she wasn't comfortable where she was. But it never came. What appeared, though, was a smile. Evie smiled at Trixie as the latter spoke softly to her. Trixie continued to'speak' to the baby, but soon realised she was being heard by her Alpha and Luna, which made her stop abruptly. I could see a blush spread over her cheeks. She was adorable. And our mind was made up.
''I will offer you the job, Trixie. As you stay within the pack house, and all your meals and laundry will be taken care of by Martha, I am only willing to pay $20 an hour. $25 if we have to call you in the night.
Have a think about it and let me know''.
Let her know? $20 an hour? I was confused, so I rushed on ''Luna, I don't understand? I do not expect to get paid. You are my Luna. Little Evie is my future Luna. It would be the greatest honour of my life to serve you so directly''.
I looked shocked at what the pretty girl in front of me just said. I held up my hand, even though she had already stopped talking. I narrowed my eyes slightly, before speaking again.
''Do you mean to say you came here today after overhearing your Beta ask around, but didn't expect to get paid to do the work??''
I looked at her slightly incredulous as she nodded slightly. I could see I put her on edge, and I didn't want her to feel like that. I didn't want any member of the pack to look at me like that.
''Trixie, I would never expect you to work for nothing. Your Alpha and myself will be placing our most treasured possession with you. We are aware of the type of responsibility that is, and you shall be paid. I'll not hear another word. Do you accept?'
I could see the realisation on Trixie's face when she understood the job was hers. The smile that spread across her face transformed her from pretty to beautiful. Her emerald eyes were sparkling with excitement. Her whole body was like a coiled spring of happiness and tension, with the desire to go and tell her family
"Oh, Luna. It will be the greatest honour of my life to accept the job. When would you like me to start? It can be anytime??'I smiled at her eagerness.
"I'd like you to move into the packhouse first and get used to the hustle and bustle of the space. Your Alpha and I do not intend to keep the baby locked up in the apartment. We both think it would be a comfort to most of the pack, plus we would want Evie to grow familiar with every aspect of pack life. So, when would you like to move in? Preferably sooner rather than later would suit us".
and found myself smiling again at the girls response ''Luna, if it's okay with you, I would like to move in right away so I can start as soon as you want me''.
I thought for a split second, then Sapphire spoke up ''I like her, I think she will be a great addition to our team'' I nodded in agreement, then told Trixie that she could move in today.
''I shall send one of the warriors with you, to pack up and bring it here. Your room will be on the floor just below this one. As I move you out of your creature comforts, I have arranged for a suit of rooms for you. You shall have three rooms that interconnect. Creating a space for your bathroom, closet. There will be one that holds your bedroom, and the last room will be a living room. That way, you will have your own space when it is needed. Is this acceptable to you?"
***Trixie POV***
Once again, I was gobsmacked. ''Luna, honestly, this is too much for me. I don't need all that room. I don't own many cloths, so I will only require a chest of drawers. '' I was aware that my voice was getting softer as I spoke. I was embarrassed to say I only had a few cloths. They were mostly hand me downs from my mother''.
Any minute now, the Luna's was going to realise she had made a mistake in choosing me. She was going to kick me out for being underqualified or something. I dare not look at her directly, out of respect, so jump a little when I felt a warm finger lift my chin.
The look on Luna's face brought quick unshod tears to my eyes. I tried to break free of her stare by pulling away. And even though she allowed me to move away. She continued to stare at me with a mixture of emotions flitting across her beautiful face. For a split second, I saw the deeper blue within her eyes signalling the arrival of her gorgeous silver wolf. I thought to myself, "Of course I would see Sapphire today, it was her little girl as well"." I bowed my head and exposed my neck to show submission.
In my mind, I heard a clear voice. Sapphire's voice. I conversed with the great wolf for a few minutes, then I felt the connection break off. I let out a slightly shaky breath, but still had a smile on my face. I was also pleased to see my smile reflected back at me.
the Luna spoke again, and reassured me I had impressed Sappihire. I couldnt help feel proud of myself.
I had finally managed to get into the pack house. I finally got a chance to prove myself.
I hit the gravelled drive at a run and sped the whole way back to my home. My mother was waiting for me and was overjoyed by my news. We did both shed a tear. I packed up a few of the better cloths I had and put them in my old school bag. Luckily, I didn't have many clothes, so my two pairs of shoes fit in as well.
I took one last glance around the room I shared with my sisters, not in the least bit sorry to leave it behind. It was the right time, Mom knew that and fully supported me. Mom met me at the bottom of the stairs and gave me another hug, ''don't be a stranger, okay.". She whispered in my ear. I nodded, not trusting my voice at this moment in time.
I was leaving my home, I was finally going. I couldn't wait to start my new job. It was such an honour.
And I was going to do my very best. Then they would see. They would all see!!
