Genni POV
Jonas stayed in the hospital wing for a few more days. He didn't like it, but understood.
I spent the next two days after Jonas woke up, in a complete frenzy, buying everything we needed for Evie. I can honestly say I would rather run a large wolf pack single handed than go shopping with Sara, but it couldn't be helped.
Sara was so excited about the shopping trip that she invited Martha and Rosemary along too.
Unfortunately, Rosemary was away visiting her close friends. After what happened with Phil, Rosemary found it too difficult to stay in the pack. She had tried, but found herself drowning in sympathy, and she just couldn't cope.
Rosemary would phone me everyday while I was visiting Jonas, so she could speak to him via my cell phone. In the hope that hearing his mother's voice would bring him back to us. It never worked, of course. But it didn't stop her from trying. It was my suggestion she leave for a few days, and Rosemary gladly accepted it.
This meant Rosemary was unaware of the birth of her granddaughter. Jonas wanted to tell her, and I agreed the news should come from him. Once Rosemary knew, she made preparations to return home, stating that her family needed her.
And although Rosemary was coming home, she would not be here for the shopping trip.
This morning, at nine sharp, there was a rap on the apartment door. I was slightly puzzled to see Greg there with Bastian in the pram. Before I could say anything, Greg entered, whilst pushing the pram, ''Are you ready to leave, Luna''? He enquired politely.
I didn't know what was going on, so I asked. The response shocked and amused me simultaneously. ''You mommy's are going shopping, so us Daddy's will be watching the babies. As Alpha Jonas is still not discharged from the hospital, we are taking the babies there. Your father will also be coming to 'Help' Jonas with Evie''. Greg said all this in one breath. When he finished speaking, he had a huge grin on his face. It was impossible to be mad at him for barging in just now.
I was smiling myself as I tucked Evie into the pram with her cousin. I walked down to the entrance hall with Greg and the babies, and was greeted by an exuberant Sara and Martha. Us girls stood there for a few seconds, staring at Greg's retreating back. Then I felt my arm nearly being pulled out of its socket as Sara made her way to her car. Sooner than I would have liked, we pulled into a parking space at the local mall.
I smiled at Sara as she got out of the car and unfurled a long list. ''Okay, you've bought all the big items, like a crib, baby wardrobe, etc. Let's go shopping for clothes and the like. Ooh, this is going to be fun."
Fun? We will see, I thought to myself. But I had to admit, by the second store, I was enjoying myself. I was also surprised to encounter a few guys from the pack. It didn't click with me why they were there until we took a break and stopped for a coffee. Well, Martha had coffee, Sara and myself had herbal tea as we were still breast feeding.
That still blew my mind, it had only been two days since finding out Evie was Jonas and I's baby girl.
I waved at one of my pack members, who happened to be sitting in the same coffee shop as us. Sara turned to look at who I was waving at. As she saw who it was, her back straightened a little. It was that little gesture that helped my mind click into place.
I crooked my little finger at the man, who I recognised as one of our warriors, and waited till he walked over slowly to our table. Sara was looking everywhere, but at the man, whose name I had forgotten, Martha bless her heart, she was unaware of any tension.
''Am I right in saying your Alpha sent you as our bodyguard? You and the other two men I have seen around this mall?''.
He had the decency to blush slightly before he nodded his head. ''Alpha asked us last night if we would accompany you Luna. We were told to blend in to the crowd. Alpha Jonas is gonna be pissed that you spotted us'.
He looked so forlorn I burst out laughing and told him to sit down. ''Call over the others, please'' I ordered, and soon our table was full to bursting as the other two guys arrived and sat down like naughty school boys in front of their principle.
I was still shaking my head and chuckling at the irony that three very tall, very handsome young men could ever 'blend in' when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. The first man, whose name I remembered as Simon, started to growl low in his throat. It was not perceptive to the humans around us, but all three she-wolves and the other bodyguards heard him.
The three men stood at the same time, whilst telling us to stay seated. They were looking around the mall, but clearly couldn't see anything. I linked with everyone at the table and told them all that the threat had gone. All eyes swivelled to my face, Martha looked shocked and Sara looked tense. I reached out to hold the older woman's hand to assure her we were in no danger.
I glanced at Simon, who gave me the slightest nod, and let the pretence of 'blending in' fall as all three burly guys stood when we did, and from then on accompanied us as a group.
We continued for three more stores, buying everything I needed for the baby. I was glad we had bought most of Evie's clothes when we first entered the mall. As the shine had been taken off the trip by the threat around us.
We got to the check out at the latest store, and I had to call it a day. We were being reckless now we knew something had been out there. Sara and Martha agreed, so we made our way back to the car.
the. Guys were perfect gentlemen and offered to carry the endless bags we carried for us, but I pointed out that if an attack took place, I would need their reflexes unencumbered. All three men nodded. Which must have looked weird to the humans around, as nobody from our group was speaking. We were all linked, so I could direct the guys. And I wanted the other women to know what was being said.
We finally arrived at the car and started to bundle all the bags into the back. Not realising how much we had bought, Simon suggested some bigger items, like nappies, could go in the other car. Nodding at this suggestion, the other men came over and took some shopping off us and returned to their car.
We set off a few minutes later with Simon in our car. He was not prepared to leave his Luna's side for anything, he had told me. And I was grateful. Sara tried her best to get our minds back on the shopping trip by recanting all she had bought for baby Bastian. But I could tell we were all relieved to be back on pack grounds as we drove over the border. As we pulled up to the pack house, Greg and my father were standing there waiting for us. The news we possibly faced a threat evident on their tense faces. Greg rushed to Sara's side and picked her up in a hug. While my father rushed to Martha and me.
''We are all fine'' I declared ''Nothing happened, not really. I just felt something, as did Simon'' and I gestured to the six foot three man standing beside me.
As we were now safe, the three guys offered to bring our bags in, so we all walked to the hospital wing, where an anxious Alpha could be heard whispering loudly to the Doctor about leaving. He spun round when we entered and flew to me, engulfing me in his arms and burying his face in my neck.
''I am okay, Jonas. I am fine,'' I said softly. But his arms only grew tighter around me.
Pulling back slightly from me and trying to raise the spirits of us all, Jonas said ''Simon got rumbled, huh?''. This did make us all laugh, as I assured the Grand Alpha that the men he had sent to watch over us were brilliant and had followed their Alpha's rules perfectly. All three men looked goofy now, as they all had large smiles on their faces due to their Luna giving them a compliment.
Jonas dismissed the men, and my father and Martha also left. I hugged Martha and thanked her for coming with us. I was about to apologise to the older woman when she held up her hand and linked with me, telling me she had enjoyed herself. Smiling at her, I gave my father a quick hug and watched them leave. My father filling Martha in on all the baby exploits.
I turned to Jonas with my eyes brows raised, and he chuckled, pulling me back into his arms. I could feel the familiar rumble of his broad chest as I lay my cheek against it. How I had missed this. And for a second, I hung on tighter. Jonas simply held me.
Greg coughed, and we started to laugh again. I had been content to stay within my mates arms.
We were all smiling when both little ones started to fuss. Sara put Bastian in the pram and hugged me goodbye, and stated she would feed him when they got home. Greg frowned and said ''we are already home''. He looked rather confused at first, but then realised what his mate had meant.
Chuckling at the two figures walking out of the hospital wing, I bent down and picked my daughter up and asked her father how she had been. Jonas told me he was a little miffed at my dad because he hogged Evie the whole time. Smiling at the image of my father fussing over his granddaughter, I gently pushed my nose into her as I took in her now familiar scent. ''Are you hungry, little one?'' I coo'ed to her. Jonas held out his arms for the baby and sat down on the bed, tapping the bed for me to sit in front of him. I did as he asked and sat with my back up against him. When I was ready, Jonas lifted Evie up and over me and placed her in my arms, where she snuffled for a few seconds while hunting for her food. As she latched on, I relaxed back on Jonas, and his arms surrounded both me and the baby. I don't know how long we stayed like that. But it was blissful. Hands down the best part of the day.
When Dr. Julia came in to discharge Jonas, she stopped in her tracks. Making me look up from the angelic babe in my arms.
''Oh, I am so sorry to disturb you both. Shall I return later? I only popped in to discharge the Alpha''.
''YES'' Jonas said enthusiastically, ''Thanks Doc, can I go home now?''. And Dr. Julia nodded her response.
The doctor came over to us then and spent the next few minutes fussing over the baby.
We thanked her, I hugged her, so grateful of the care she had given Jonas, then finally. We walked up to our apartment, and entered as the family we were.
