Chapter 287 The False Fated Mate Link

Chapter 287 The False Fated Mate Link

Ella's POV

“She said the name of that tribe, pronounced in an ancient language, is ‘Nachtsonne,’ which means ‘Sun of the Night.’”

Owen pointed at the totem, a hint of reverence in his eyes. “They don’t worship the Moon Goddess but a more ancient, primal force of nature. Their bloodline is said to directly communicate and channel this power. That’s why their bloodline is invaluable to those wizards who seek forbidden powers.”

The name seemed to carry a certain magic, rolling off my tongue and sending a strange thrill through me. It felt like my blood resonated with the word in some distant way.

“These letters were written by your mother to your father, but they were never sent.”

Owen pushed the pages toward me. “She mentioned her fears about her bloodline, worried that this power would bring disaster to the Wildheart Pack. She even... she even said in the letters that she regretted having you because it meant you would have to bear this heavy curse.”

My fingers trembled as I touched the familiar, delicate handwriting. My mother’s pen strokes were filled with struggle and pain.

I could imagine how she was tormented by this fear and anxiety night after lonely night. It wasn’t that she didn’t love me; on the contrary, she loved me so much that she feared for my safety.

All this time, my mother had carried so many secrets and so much pain alone.

“She was a great mother.” Mason’s voice came from beside me, his thumb gently wiping away the tears on my cheek. “She protected you in her own way for a long time.”

I nodded, clutching the letters tightly in my hand, as if I could feel my mother’s lingering warmth.

Owen was silent for a moment, giving me time to calm down. Then he picked up another file from the pile, his expression becoming more serious than ever.

“Your mother’s death and your heritage are tragedies that have already happened. But what I’m about to tell you is happening now and threatens all of us.”

His gaze swept over me and Mason, finally settling on a direction in the stone chamber.

I followed his gaze to where Claire had been taken not long ago.

My heart sank, a sense of foreboding enveloping me.

Owen’s voice turned low and cold. “I told you before that the ‘Master’ organization, or rather that witch, wants your bloodline. That’s the first secret. Your mother was murdered; that’s the second secret. Now, I’m going to tell you the third and most terrifying secret.”

He paused, and the air in the stone chamber seemed to freeze. I could hear my own pounding heartbeat and Mason’s increasingly heavy breathing beside me.

“Claire is my ‘Fated Mate,’” Owen said slowly, each word like a boulder thrown into the turbulent lake of my heart, causing massive waves. “And she’s part of the witch’s scheme.”

I was stunned, unable to wrap my head around his words. Fated Mate is a lie? How could that be possible?

For us werewolves, Fated Mate is the Moon Goddess’s most sacred gift, the deepest, most irresistible bond between two souls.

It’s the cornerstone of our culture and faith, the most undeniable truth in our lives. But now, Owen was telling me this truth is a lie?

“What... what did you say?” My voice trembled with shock.

“I’m not making this up.”

Owen’s expression was dead serious. “That witch has an evil ability to create fake Fated Mate bonds. She can place her pawns beside the Alphas of various Packs, and by controlling these deceived Alphas, she can ultimately manipulate the entire werewolf world.”

He pointed to where Claire had been taken, coldly uttering a name: “Claire is one of her most successful pawns.”

I remembered Claire’s obsessive possessiveness toward Owen, her constant claims of being Owen’s Fated Mate, the righteous resentment in her eyes when she looked at me, and her ruthless ambition to become Luna.

I had always thought she was just a pathetic woman blinded by jealousy.

But now, if that so-called Fated Mate bond was fabricated? If all her actions were meticulously designed in a larger scheme?

A chill ran from my feet to the top of my head. This was terrifying.

It was more frightening than any direct attack. It shook the very foundation of our existence as a species. If even Fated Mate could be faked, what else was real? What else could be trusted?

I instinctively grabbed Mason’s arm and looked up at him. I desperately wanted to see a hint of shock, a trace of confusion like mine on his face. But his face was only cold, with a calmness that had long understood.

“You knew?” I asked in disbelief.

A complex emotion flickered in Mason’s eyes. He nodded, his voice low. “I suspected.”

But Claire...

“So, everything she did to you was part of the witch’s plan?”

My voice was filled with belated fear. “Has the witch’s shadow been behind all this chaos?”

“Yes.”

Owen took over. “A powerful Alpha, if deceived by a false Fated Mate, will have his judgment and decisions severely affected. By controlling enough Alphas, the witch can dismantle the entire werewolf Pack without bloodshed. It’s an extremely insidious plan.”

I felt the world spinning.

The crisis Silverblade Pack once faced was far deeper and more dangerous than I had imagined.

It wasn’t a simple internal conflict but a silent war, a black hand reaching out from the witch. And I had unknowingly thwarted one of her moves.

No wonder... no wonder the witch was so determined to deal with us. I not only possessed the “key” she wanted but also disrupted her plan.
