Closure
Closure
A week had passed quickly in our new home, pack morale was at an all time high, despite the darkness we'd just come out of.
Malachi, as promised had moved a desk into his office to work close together and things were quickly slipping into our 'new' normal.
"There's a letter for you." Peggy sung out as she knocked on the door and poked her head in. She had taken Ezra's death the worst, and while the small group of friends were settling in well and having fun exploring their new pack - there was still a dark shadow that hovered over them all.
Peggy had slipped into the role of an unofficial assistant to me, and I quickly realised that she was just trying to keep herself busy - unlike the others who were happy with floating around and seeing where they fit in here.
I smiled at her as she placed it down in front of me, but my stomach lurched and my hands started shaking, as I realised who it was from.
"Everything ok?" Malachi asked, his face full of concern and Peggy handed me a bottle of water.
"It's Amora and Braydon." I whispered, and he understood straight away.
"Peggy, do you mind giving us a minute?" Peggy nodded at Malachi and slipped out silently as he walked around and began rubbing my shoulders.
Before they'd left Whitebridge, I'd pulled them aside and asked them to look into who my mysterious saviour was. With the work that they had ahead of them, I hadn't expected to hear from them so soon.
With shaky hands, I opened the envelope.
Aurelia,
We retrieved her body from the cottage on our way home, and have laid her to rest within the Landow Cemetery. We also took more than great pleasure in burning that hell hole to the ground.
A giggle escaped my lips, Amora wrote just as she spoke and it felt like she was here with us.
We have released all rogues and prisoners from the cells, and invited those on the borders and who have been cast out to join us. I'm happy to write that they have all accepted our offer and have been extremely grateful.
My heart sung at reading that. I knew that they were the best possible choices that we could have made.
A few of the rogues, along with a couple from the cells were able to help identify the girl as Kenna Winters. Her parents were part of the Landow Pack, however were treated horribly after her Aunt who was Atticus' Nanny, was cast out after Vera took a disliking to her. After they fell pregnant with Kenna, they took her to her Aunt - along with her older sister, Grace as they believed that they would have a better life as Rogues than within Landow.
My heart sunk, as I continued reading. They were truly monsters and I couldn't imagine the heartache of sending your own children away.
Her parents are now deceased, and Kenna is resting beside them. We've also since discovered the Aunt is also deceased, however Grace is now safely back at Landow with us - and in yet, another turn of events is mated to Braydon. Things are going very well here, and a lot smoother than we could have ever expected - with the Landow Pack just happy for a change, even though we still have a long way to go. Laughter is filling the air again and everyone is doing what they can to help us out with rebuilding the pack, as we've already started knocking down structures that have less than happy memories attached to them in order to let the healing process begin for these people. We all send our regards, and can't wait for you all to visit us!
Braydon and I would like to thank you again for giving us this opportunity, and we can't wait for you to visit!"
"Kenna." I breathed her name, and Malachi wrapped his arms around me.
"She's at peace now and has been reunited with her family, Landow is doing well and Braydon's found his mate." He said tenderly.
It was bittersweet closure.
"I want to visit them sooner, rather than later." I said and he nodded in agreement. I knew that he was hanging out to go and see his friend.
"Let's go in two weeks. I think I'm all travelled out for the moment, and there's still things that need to be done here." He sighed, and I knew he was right.
"We need to give Peggy, Nettie, Enid, Levi and Cyrus roles before Peggy goes insane." I laughed, but I knew they needed to be made a priority.
"Peggy seems to have taken a liking to working with us, I'd like to keep her around." He said seriously, and I nodded in agreement. I wasn't sure if he was happy having her around us as he always seemed indifferent, but I was glad that he wanted too.
"Nettie and Levi have taken a liking to the pups, I know that they're still young and don't even have their wolves yet - but I think they'd be a great choice in taking over their training. They're great warriors and have the perfect, playful softer sides to be able to do it." Malachi nodded in response.
"I also think that May has taken a liking to Enid and Cyrus, so they'd be welcomed in the gardens and kitchen." I added.
"Agreed, should we call them up here to have a chat?" He said, already mindlinking the five of them.
Peggy arrived first, always close to us - I was beginning to get concerned that she was drifting away from her friends and made a mental note to encourage them to all spend time together again now that they wouldn't be drifting around. The others quickly arrived and the group all greeted and hugged each other.
Malachi and I were standing behind our desks and watching over them as if we were proud parents.
"How are you all settling in?" I asked, breaking up the small reunion.
"It's great here!" Enid gushed, "The air is so much lighter and everyone know's everyone - unlike Whitebridge which was still great, but it was huge!"
The others smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Aurelia and I have just been talking, and now that you're all settling in and have had time to explore - we'd love to offer you some official roles!" Malachi beamed, and the five of them looked a bit nervous at being addressed by him.
"We appreciate that, Alpha Malachi." Levi replied, taking charge of the group.
"Call me Malachi, you don't need to address me as Alpha. We're a bit more relaxed than Whitebridge." He laughed, and they all giggled nervously. They weren't used to things being this casual as Lucian ran things a lot more by the book.
"Nettie and Levi, I would be so honoured if you took over as head trainers for the pups. Cora and Gael left such a beautiful impact on them, and I think you both will do the same." Their heads snapped up at the mention of their names and looked shocked that we were giving them such a huge responsibility.
"Oh Aurelia, I know what they mean to you and we would love too!" Nettie said with tears in her eyes.
"Perfect! Enid and Cyrus, you have both made quite the impression on May - so we would love to have you around the Kitchens and Gardens?" I offered and Cyrus lit up, I knew that he loved the outside work. They both nodded their heads enthusiastically, with huge smiles.
"Peggy," Malachi started, and the girl instantly looked nervous. "You have made such a valuable difference with Aurelia and I this week and we both love having you around, so we'd love to keep you on as our assistant." He finished and Peggy looked between us both with disbelief.
"Say yes." I laughed, which snapped her out of it and she raced around to pull us both into a big hug.
"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" She squealed and we all laughed.
"Now, you five need to go and do something fun together to celebrate." I ordered, and the grins on their faces were priceless. "May will have a picnic ready for you to take out by the time you get down to the kitchen."
They practically skipped out the door and Malachi and I smiled at each other.
We were happy when our pack was happy.
