Chapter 68 DOCTORS COMPLIXITY

Chapter 68 DOCTORS COMPLIXITY
Dr Lake’s Pov

I got to the pack house around noon because Alpha Raphael insisted I examine Luna Medea. He said she was acting strange and he was worried about the baby.

I walked into her room and she was sitting on the bed looking at the wall. When she heard me come in she turned around and her face went really pale.

"Luna Medea. Alpha Raphael asked me to check on you," I said.

"I told him I was fine," Medea said.

"He's concerned. And given the troubled nature of your pregnancy I think it's best if I do a quick examination," I said.

I set up my equipment carefully, making sure everything was in its proper place. Then I asked Medea to lie down, trying to keep my tone calm and neutral. She obeyed, but the moment she lowered herself onto the table, I could see the strain in her face. Her skin was pale, and her hands gripped the edges as if the slightest movement might make her collapse. She looked like she might throw up at any second, and my chest tightened with a mix of frustration and worry. Every careful adjustment of the instruments felt heavier knowing how unsteady she already was.

I started the examination and right away I knew something was very wrong. Her hormone levels didn’t match up with someone who was supposed to be pregnant for this long.

"Luna Medea can you tell me exactly when you found out you were pregnant?" I asked.

"A few weeks ago. You know this already," Medea said but she wouldn't look at me.

"And you took a home test?" I asked.

"Yes," Medea said.

I kept examining her, methodical and precise, but the more I checked, the more unsettled I became. Every measurement, every observation contradicted the last. Nothing lined up with what I expected to see. Her symptoms, her vitals, the subtle changes in her body—it was all inconsistent, baffling. My brow furrowed as I repeated tests, double-checked notes, and adjusted instruments, hoping for clarity. But clarity never came. Instead, a knot of unease settled in my stomach. Something about her condition wasn’t right, and the deeper I looked, the more the pieces refused to fit together, leaving me frustrated, worried, and increasingly uncertain.

"Luna Medea I need you to be completely honest with me. Is there something you need to tell me?" I asked.

Medea sat up and I saw tears start running down her face.

"Please don't say anything. Please," Medea said.

"I don't understand. What are you talking about?" I asked even though I was starting to get a bad feeling.

"I was never pregnant. The test was fake. I lied to everyone," Medea said and then she started crying really hard.

I just stood there because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This was worse than I thought.

"You lied about being pregnant? With the Alpha's heir?" I asked.

“I panicked,” Medea admitted, her voice shaking, barely above a whisper. “I thought I could fix it before anyone found out… before anyone noticed, before it got out of control. I believed I could handle it on my own.” She swallowed hard, tears brimming in her eyes. “But I couldn’t. Nothing I did worked, and now… now everything is a mess. I ruined it all, and I don’t know how to make it right.” Her confession hung heavy in the room, raw and unfiltered, and I could feel the weight of every mistake pressing down between us.

"Luna Medea do you understand how serious this is? You announced to the entire pack that you were carrying the future Alpha. The Elders blessed you, this is treason," I said.

"I know. I know. That's why I need your help," Medea said and she grabbed my arm. "Please. You have to help me."

"I can't help you with this. This is beyond anything I can fix," I said.

"You have to. I'll pay you. I'll give you anything you want. Just please don't tell anyone the truth," Medea said.

I pulled my arm away from her and started packing up my equipment. I needed to get out of there and report this to Alpha Raphael immediately.

"Dr Lake please. If you tell Raphael he'll kill me or exile me. Either way, my life is over," Medea said.

I stopped packing mid-motion and turned to look at her properly. She looked small and fragile, desperation etched into every line of her face, terror swimming in her wide eyes. Part of me wanted to reach out, to comfort her, to tell her it would be okay—but another, stronger part knew this was too big to ignore. Keeping quiet now would make me complicit, and the consequences of silence were far too severe. My hands trembled slightly as I weighed what to do next, caught between empathy for her fear and the inescapable responsibility of the truth.

"You should have thought about that before you lied," I said.

"I wasn't thinking. I was scared. Eclipse said this was the only way," Medea said.

"Eclipse? Your sister put you up to this?" I asked.

"No. I mean yes, sort of. It's complicated," Medea said.

I sat down in the chair because my legs felt weak. Eclipse was involved. That made everything worse because I knew what Eclipse was capable of.

"Tell me everything. From the beginning," I said.

Medea told me about faking the pregnancy test and how Eclipse came up with a plan to fix it. She didn't tell me all the details but I could fill in the blanks. Eclipse found someone to get Medea actually pregnant so they could pass the baby off as the Alpha's.

"You realize I'm already complicit in lies involving this family right?" I said.

"What do you mean?" Medea asked.

"Five years ago. Celestia's delivery. I was paid to lie about whose baby it was. Eclipse paid me," I said.

Medea looked shocked like she didn't know that part.

"Eclipse paid you to lie?" Medea asked.

“Yes,” I said, my voice tight with anger and exhaustion. “She threatened my family—and then paid me an obscene amount of money to say that Asher was your baby, not Celestia’s. Every word I spoke for five years was a lie, a carefully constructed lie that ate at me from the inside.” My hands clenched as I spoke, heart hammering. “I’ve been living with that lie for five years, carrying the guilt and the fear, pretending it was the truth while watching everything unravel in silence. And now… now it all comes crashing down.”

"I didn't know she threatened you. She told me you agreed to help us," Medea said.

"Of course she did. Eclipse doesn't tell anyone the whole truth. Not even you," I said.

We sat there in silence for a while and I thought about what I should do. If I reported Medea then Eclipse would make sure I went down with her. She had evidence of my involvement in the Celestia situation. I would lose my medical license and probably go to jail.

"If I help you monitor this situation I need something from you," I said.

"Anything," Medea said.

"If this blows up you don't mention my name. You say you did this all on your own. You don't bring me into it," I said.

"But what about the Celestia thing? If people find out about that," Medea said.

"Then we both go down. Which is why we both have motivation to keep all of this quiet," I said.

Medea nodded.

"So you'll help me?" Medea asked.

“I’ll monitor your health for the baby. I’ll keep up appearances,” I said carefully, choosing each word with intent. “But if Eclipse’s plan doesn’t work, and you don’t get pregnant, I’m not staying to watch this implode.” My voice was steady, even if my hands weren’t. “I’ll leave before that happens—before the blame starts shifting and the damage becomes irreversible. I’m willing to help for now, but I won’t sacrifice everything if this falls apart. That’s my line.”

"Fair enough," Medea said.

"And one more thing. I want double what Eclipse paid me before," I said.

"Fine. I'll get you the money," Medea said.

I finished packing my equipment and headed for the door. Before I left I turned back to look at Medea.

"You know this is only going to get worse right? The more lies you tell the harder it gets to keep track of them all. Eventually everything falls apart," I said.

"I know. But what choice do I have?" Medea asked.

"You could tell the truth," I said.

"And lose everything? No thanks," Medea said.
