Chapter 35 WHEN TRUST TREMBLES
Celestia's POV
He was more uplifted than I expected when he came back to the guest room to see me, he had advised that I didn't go anywhere else in the palace for now and just remain here.
I would have gone along with him to the meeting but he wanted to address them first and make a way for me so that I would not meet with intense hostility when I did arrive.
"How did it go?"
I asked putting the book that I had used to pass by time aside and placing my phone's attention on him he dragged a chair close to the bed sat, and I turned so that both of us were now facing each other he coughed to clear his throat and then the first thing he did was ask me if I had had my lunch yet.
"Yes I have but what about the meeting?"
"Celestia..." he said carefully, "... This might not be a real Union, but people see it as such. They would not like to know that we are just more or less business partners who signed a contract together. Also, it's going to be very awkward for us to make a pup together if we keep addressing each other like this,"
I hadn't quite realized it myself or perhaps I did and that was why I was doing this to keep a distance between us a line he could not cross my safety as we're going up again and it's not my he could blame me completely how could I ever fully trust anybody after all I've been through?
"I see what you mean I'll keep that to mind," I told him honestly in my head I wasn't really making any promises yet. However, if it was just to act then I could do that.
"But do we have to be overly nice to each other when it's just the two of us within closed doors?" I asked, leaning forward.
"Not necessarily," he came closer and I was bathed with A wave of his scent, "it would help though if people saw us as more than familiar strangers perhaps they could even take what we have as a sort of forbidden modern romance, if we win over the people then they high ranking ones will eventually have to come along whether they want to or not,"
I clutched my fingers into a fist, pressing them on my thighs.
"I guess they were not too thrilled about having a rogue werewolf as their queen?" I said, "I knew this wasn't going to work out from the start, I just knew it was a bad idea...."
He reached forward clasping his fingers on top of my own on a boat, making sure that I fell into the warmth coming from him.
"Their prejudice is not allowed them to see what I've seen, I know how amazing you can be Celestia and with time they will come to know that too,"
Half of me wanted to yank my hand away, another part wanted to seep further into this warmth that made me feel like everything was going to be okay.
For a split second I wondered what it would be like if all my walls were down if I wasn't constantly on survival mode 24/7 waiting for the next betrayal, waiting for the next moment when I would be stabbed in the back waiting for when eventually my trust would be turned around and use against me my recent experience with Cassie and Dante's attempt to kidnap me and bring me over to Raphael had reopened some old wounds I thought I was already over let's clearly I wasn't the thought of putting myself in that position again even taking one single step forward towards it writing me beyond anything else I could even consider jumping off a cliff running through a burning forest but all of that.
So instead of being rude and pulling away and being weak by luring myself in I just remained as still as a statue acting as if I did not notice his hand on my mind.
"But now that they already disapprove of me so much, what could I possibly do to change their minds? What did you promise them?"
Then without missing a beat he told me, "I told them that I was going to prove your innocence that you did not kidnap any infants 5 years ago once that has been completely wiped off your record they will have no solid reason to fight against you,"
I initially had a dribble of hope but what he just said made it instantly dry up, "There is no way to prove that I did not kidnap that pup," I said in a voice that sounded detached even to me he looked at me and asked me why his brow furrowed.
"Knowing Raphael to be the kind of man that he is now there is no way that even is shred of possible evidence has not either been corrupted or completely eradicated from existence,"
I stood up and walked over to the window of the guest room, my hands crossed together, "I'll stay like a stand-in until you find another candidate then I'll quietly leave I'll figure out something for my camp members,"
He was right behind me in a second.
"Hold your horses you are forgetting one piece of important evidence something that your ex no matter how adorable he was could ever destroy,"
I looked at him with eyes that had tripled in size and wondered what he was talking about even I doubted my own sanity at times when he displayed all the faked evidence and swept everything else that was true away there was definitely not he cared to much for his precious little Mistress to make a mistake like that that could harm her in the future I was almost far to show of it then something crossed my mind and it was like a light bulbed list over my head as I understood what Lucian was saying.
Asher...my son, he was living proof of who his mother truly was.
And finally, I can prove it.
