Chapter 31 BONES, BETRAYAL, AND WARNING
Lucian's POV
Couldn't even wait for me to take one step into my territory before pulling this, they must be all out of their minds.
I didn't want Celestia to see this but I couldn't have her sleeping while there was danger lurking ahead, she woke up and any shred of slumber was quickly gone from her eyes.
When I indicated the people in front of us, her entire body stiffened up.
I wonder if she was worried that we were outnumbered.
That was hardly a problem at all.
They were about it, but I could take them without breaking a sweat. The person who had sent them here knew fully well that they would not be able to take me down. It was just a reminder that they intended to do so in the future.
I breezed out of the car, Celestia remained within but that wasn't a problem as I had said before I could take care of these guys without breaking a sweat.
Many of them began to back away as my alpha aura was coming out, that was their survival instinct telling them to run but minions like this often didn't have enough brain to listen to that I stepped ahead and began to crack their bones one after the other, after a while I had to shift into my wolf form by the time I had fully transformed somebody had already launched themselves at my leg biting into it I kicked that person off making a spin and hitting several others in the process.
Hours on the road had dulled my senses, the person who had sent them after me must have predicted this which was why I had to face this attack now it wasn't to kill me like i already knew just a waking me further, corpses gathered around me I looked behind but I couldn't really make out celestia's shape from the distance that I was standing.
Had she decided to call it quits and run while she was ahead? She was fully capable of protecting herself but rogues had a deeper survival instinct than pack wolves they saw more sense in flame from danger rather than moving headfirst with just a chance of survival self-preservation was always at the top of any decision they made I wouldn't blame her if she left I would have simply expected it.
Maybe that was part of the reason why I chose her, because I was hoping she would run away and I could have another excuse as to why I could not give my Park an heir, it was indeed but it was a lame one indeed but still-
Just as I had almost given up all hope that she was going to show up and there was the wolf about to attack me from behind she appeared from the corner of my eye pouncing on that wolf and separating a limb from its body, a sharp howl tore through the others I was hearing.
I was keeping my ground before but it was nice to have somebody watching my back, somebody that I knew I could trust myself with, so I continued to fight until all those that had attacked us had finally fallen, their corpses thrown around only asphalt blood pouring out.
She was breathing heavily.
That she looked at me, covered in blood as I was as well.
Though if nothing could break her if nothing else could make her run away this definitely would.
It was not the first woman I had sought out like this, there had been others.
When they found out that being my queen was going to be a little more than a walk through the park many of them withdrew.
I couldn't exactly blame them. I was always dancing on the edge of danger and that was not everyone's cup of tea.
He had helped me but I expected her to at least see that she had not signed up for this that she wanted to live and she would find a way to take care of her camp herself instead of endangering herself.
But instead, she cleared the distance between us, the palm of her hand reaching up instinctively to touch my cheek.
"Are you okay?" He asked me such a simple question and yet for a couple of minutes I was absolutely dumbfounded, unable to speak.
I opened my mouth and yet words failed to come out the first time so I did it again and this time I was able to take full advantage of my vocal cords.
"I'm good, what about you?"
She shrugged.
"I just feel bad because your car is going to stink if we get in now,"
Suddenly felt very silly for thinking that she would feel squirmish around blood, she was a rogue of course fighting for her life should be a regular day-to-day thing she had to survive a fire and being kidnapped within the same month of course she was built for tough things like this.
"There is a nearby river," I told her, "... And I have some spare clothes in the booth, we can change after washing off the blood,"
She seemed to reflect that idea for a moment then nodded.
"Sure, let's go before it gets darker,"
She was probably hinting that in case there was another attack we were both strong but one series of attacks into another would weigh on both of us.
I understood what she meant immediately and told her not to worry about it.
These attacks were meant to kill me, the arrangement was far too sloppy for me to assume that they actually thought they could take down the Lycan alpha King with such
It was clear what they were trying to do, keeping me in a weary state where my only choice would be to constantly remain on my toes which would drain and weaken over time, whoever this person was they were playing the long game unfortunately for them they were still going to lose.
