Chapter 125 OPEN REJECTION
Medea's Pov
I heard Raphael announce there would be a mandatory pack gathering today and my stomach was already in knots. I had a bad feeling about this. He had been acting strange all morning and avoiding me when I tried to talk to him.
I got dressed in my loose flowing dress that hid my flat stomach and made my way to the central square where the gathering was being held. Hundreds of pack members were already there waiting to hear what the Alpha had to say.
I found a spot near the back trying to stay inconspicuous but several people stared at me as I passed. They whispered to each other and I caught words like fake pregnancy and liar. Somehow people had figured out that I was not really pregnant.
Raphael stood on the raised platform in the center of the square with the pack elders beside him. He looked serious and determined. When he saw me in the crowd his expression did not change. He did not smile or acknowledge me at all.
That made my anxiety worse. Something bad was about to happen. I could feel it.
“Thank you all for coming. I have called this gathering to make an important announcement regarding the leadership of this pack and my personal life,” Raphael began.
A hush fell over the square. Whispers died mid-word, eyes turning toward him with a mixture of curiosity and unease. Some faces were bright with anticipation, others tight with suspicion, as if they already feared what was coming.
He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. Every heartbeat seemed louder than the last. I felt my stomach tighten, a cold knot of dread coiling as I tried to read his expression.
This wasn’t going to be simple. It wasn’t going to be easy. And whatever he was about to say would change everything—our alliances, our family, and the delicate balance of power within the pack.
Then he took a deep breath, and the first words of the announcement cut through the silence like a blade.
The crowd went silent waiting to hear what he would say.
"Five years ago I made terrible mistakes that have haunted me ever since. I exiled an innocent woman. I kept a child from his rightful mother. I allowed myself to be manipulated by people I should not have trusted. Today I am taking steps to correct those mistakes," Raphael continued.
Cold dread spread through me, sinking deep into my bones. I knew exactly who he meant. Celestia. Every word he spoke circled back to her—to his guilt, his regret, the injustice he had finally decided to acknowledge. But none of it made sense here, not now, not in front of the entire pack.
What did Celestia have to do with this gathering?
This was supposed to be a celebration. A public affirmation not a reckoning.
My gaze flicked across the crowd, searching faces for answers, for some sign that I was misunderstanding what was unfolding. Instead, I saw anticipation. Expectation. As if they already knew what was coming and I was the only one standing in the dark.
The realization tightened my chest.
This wasn’t about correcting a mistake quietly.
It was about making an example.
"As you all know Celestia has returned to our territory to cure the illness affecting our pack. During her time here I have come to realize just how wrong I was about her and how much I lost when I exiled her. I have also come to realize that my current mate is not the person I thought she was," Raphael said.
Oh no. He was going to reject me. Right here in front of everyone.
"Medea I am calling you forward," Raphael said looking directly at me.
I wanted to run. I wanted to disappear. But everyone was watching and I had no choice. I walked slowly toward the platform feeling like I was walking to my own execution.
When I reached the platform I climbed up and stood facing Raphael. His expression was cold and distant.
"Medea you have been my mate for five years. During that time you have proven yourself to be unworthy of that position. You helped your sister frame an innocent woman. You pretended a child was yours when he was not. You lied about being pregnant to manipulate me and the pack. You are not fit to be Luna of Brazen Pack," Raphael said loudly so everyone could hear.
"Raphael please do not do this. Let us talk in private," I begged.
"There is nothing to discuss. My decision is made. I Raphael Ashen Alpha of Brazen Pack hereby reject you Medea Greyfang as my mate. Our bond is severed effective immediately. You are no longer Luna of this pack," Raphael announced.
I felt the mate bond snap and the pain was excruciating. It felt like my chest was being ripped open. I fell to my knees gasping for air and clutching my chest.
The crowd gasped and started murmuring loudly. No one expected a public rejection. This was brutal and humiliating.
"Furthermore I am stripping you of any and all parental rights to the child known as Asher. You have no claim to him. You never did since he was never biologically yours. Celestia is his mother and she has full custody. You are to have no contact with the child," Raphael continued.
“Why are you doing this? What did I do to deserve this?” I screamed through my tears.
The square had gone deathly quiet. Even the guards hesitated, their hands still gripping my arms as if unsure whether they should let go. My voice echoed back at me, cracked and desperate, stripped of pride and pretense.
He didn’t answer right away. That pause—that single measured pause hurt more than any shout ever could.
When he finally spoke, his voice was calm. Controlled... The voice of an Alpha making a decision, not a man facing a woman he had once sworn to protect.
“This isn’t about what you deserve,” he said. “It’s about what I choose.”
The words landed like a verdict. I felt my knees weaken, the world blurring as the truth finally, brutally settled in. It had never been about fairness or loyalty or love.
I had simply been expendable and in that moment, as the guards pulled me farther away and the crowd watched in stunned silence, something inside me shattered beyond repair.
Not my heart… My faith.
"You know what you did. You and your sister destroyed lives to get what you wanted. You lied and schemed and hurt innocent people. You deserve everything that is happening to you," Raphael said coldly.
"Is this about Celestia? Are you rejecting me for her?" I demanded.
"This is about correcting my mistakes. I should never have chosen you in the first place. You were always second best. A replacement for what I really wanted. Now I am fixing that error in judgment," Raphael said.
His words cut deeper than any blade. I was always second best. A replacement. He never loved me.
The truth settled with a sickening clarity, snapping old memories into place—every hesitation, every distance he’d sworn was temporary. I had been convenient. Acceptable. Never chosen.
I felt something inside me go quiet. Not heartbreak, not rage but Acceptance.
I straightened slowly, lifting my head even as the ache spread through my chest. Loving him had cost me my dignity once already. I wouldn’t let it take what little I had left.
If I had only ever been a substitute, then I would no longer stand in anyone’s shadow.
He could keep his first choice.
I would choose myself.
"You are going to regret this. When Celestia rejects you and chooses the Lycan King you are going to be alone and you are going to regret everything," I said.
"That is not going to happen. Celestia has already agreed to come back to me. She is rejecting Lucian and returning to Brazen Pack as my mate and Luna. So you see Medea you have lost. Completely and totally lost," Raphael said with satisfaction.
I looked out into the crowd and saw Celestia standing near the front watching the whole scene. She had a small smile on her face. She was enjoying this. She had orchestrated this whole thing to humiliate me.
"You planned this. You manipulated him into rejecting me. This is your revenge," I screamed at her.
Celestia did not respond. She just stood there with that satisfied smile and watched me fall apart.
"Guards please escort the former Luna off pack lands. She is no longer welcome here," Raphael ordered.
Two guards came forward and grabbed my arms. They started pulling me toward the edge of the square.
Gasps rippled through the crowd. I stumbled once, more from shock than resistance, my boots scraping against the stone as their grip tightened. This wasn’t how it was supposed to happen. Not like this. Not so fast.
“Wait,” I said, my voice cutting through the noise. “This isn’t—”
One of the guards leaned closer, his expression rigid. “Orders,” he muttered.
I twisted my head, searching the sea of faces for hers. I found Celestia standing frozen, color drained from her face, eyes wide with disbelief. For a split second, our gazes locked—and in that instant, everything unspoken passed between us. Fear. Confusion. Resolve.
I straightened despite the hands on me, lifting my chin as they dragged me forward.
If this was meant to silence me, it wouldn’t work. Not now… Not when the truth was finally out in the open.
"No! You cannot do this! I have nowhere to go! Please Raphael do not do this to me!" I begged.
But Raphael turned his back on me. He did not even look as the guards dragged me away from the platform and through the crowd.
Pack members stared at me with various expressions. Some looked sympathetic. Others looked satisfied like they thought I deserved this. A few looked shocked that their Alpha would do something so cruel.
The guards pulled me all the way to the pack house and gave me ten minutes to gather my belongings. I ran to my chambers and threw clothes and personal items into a bag. My hands were shaking so badly I could barely function.
Eclipse was dead. Raphael had rejected me. My fake pregnancy was exposed. I had no title, no mate, no home. I had nothing.
This was the end of everything. And I had no one to blame but myself.
