Chapter 110 GOING HOME
Chapter 110 GOING HOME
Asher’s Pov
The nice lady who helped me during the hearing told me I could leave with my mama right away and I could not believe it. After all the waiting and hoping it was finally happening. I was really going home with my real mama.
"Do I need to go back to my room to get my things?" I asked.
"We can send someone to collect your belongings later. For now, you can just go with your mother," the nice lady said.
I looked up at my mama and she was smiling at me with tears still on her face. She held out her hand and I took it. Her hand was warm and soft and felt safe.
"Ready to go home baby?" she asked.
"Yes. I am ready," I said.
We walked out of the tribunal building and the Lycan King was waiting outside with Crane. When they saw us coming they both smiled. Relief crashed over me so suddenly my knees nearly buckled. The tension I had been holding for days finally loosened, replaced by something fragile and bright. The King stepped forward first, his presence commanding but warm, while Crane’s grin was openly triumphant. In that moment, before a single word was spoken, I knew the verdict had gone our way and that everything had finally changed.
"Congratulations little one. You are going to love your new home," the Lycan King said to me.
"Do I call you Lucian or do I call you something else?" I asked because I did not know what the right thing was.
"You can call me whatever you feel comfortable with. Some children call me Lucian. Some call me Uncle. Some will eventually call me Dad when they are ready. You decide what feels right," he said.
"Okay. I will call you Lucian for now," I said.
We got into a big car and started driving. I had never been in a car this nice before. The seats were soft and there was plenty of room. I sat in the back with my mama and she kept her arm around me the whole time.
The city blurred past the windows, lights flashing like stars. I felt the warmth of her hand holding mine and the steady rhythm of her voice telling me stories about the house I would soon see. I leaned against her shoulder, listening, feeling safe for the first time in forever. The hum of the engine was soothing, and I realized I didn’t want this ride to end, ever.
"How long until we get there?" I asked.
"About an hour. PhoenixClaw territory is pretty far from here," my mama said.
"Tell me about my new home. What is it like?" I asked.
"Well, we have a house with a big yard just like I promised. Your room has blue walls because you said that was your favorite color. There are lots of other kids in the pack for you to play with when you feel well enough. And the medical facilities are much better than what you had before so we can take really good care of you," my mama explained.
"Will I still need to have treatments for my blood condition?" I asked.
"Yes, baby. You will still need treatments. But they will not be as scary or painful. And I will be there with you for every single one. You will never have to do it alone again," she said.
That made me feel better. The treatments were always the worst part of being sick. But knowing my mama would be there made them seem less scary.
We drove for a while and I watched the scenery change outside the window. We left the city and drove through forests and over rivers. Everything looked so pretty and new.
Finally, we turned onto a road that had a sign saying PhoenixClaw Territory. My heart started beating faster with excitement.
"We are almost there," my mama said.
A few minutes later we pulled up to a house and I could not believe how nice it was. It was big but not too big and it had lots of windows. There was a huge yard with grass and trees and I could even see a swing set.
"Is this really our house?" I asked.
"Yes. This is our home," my mama said.
We got out of the car and I just stood there staring. I had never had a real home before. I had only ever lived in that medical wing room with white walls and machines everywhere.
The house looked huge and warm, like something from a storybook. There were windows instead of monitors and flowers instead of wires. I felt scared to move, like it might disappear if I blinked. My mama knelt beside me and told me this was ours, that I could touch anything, that nothing here would hurt me. That was when I finally believed her.
"Come on. Let me show you inside," my mama said.
She took my hand and we walked up to the front door. Lucian unlocked it and we went inside. The inside was even better than the outside. There was a big living room with comfortable couches and a fireplace. There was a kitchen with a table where we could eat meals together. Everything looked warm and cozy.
"Your room is upstairs. Want to see it?" my mama asked.
"Yes!" I said.
We went up the stairs and my mama led me to a door at the end of the hallway. She opened it and I gasped.
The walls were painted blue just like she promised. There was a big bed with soft blankets and pillows. There were shelves with books and toys. There was a desk where I could draw and do puzzles. And there was a big window that looked out over the yard.
"This is all mine?" I asked.
"All yours. You can decorate it however you want. We can add more things as you think of them. This is your space," my mama said.
I walked around the room touching everything to make sure it was real. The toys were new and looked fun. The books were ones I had never read before. Everything smelled clean and fresh.
"I love it. I love it so much," I said.
"I am so glad. Now how about we go back to the medical wing and say goodbye to Nurse Anna? She has been taking care of you for years and I think she would like to see you one more time before you leave for good," my mama said.
I nodded and squeezed her hand because saying goodbye felt important, even if it also hurt a little. Nurse Anna had been there on the hardest days, when I was scared and lonely. I wanted her to know I would be okay now. That I was leaving not because I didn’t care, but because I finally had somewhere safe to go and someone waiting for me.
We drove back to Brazen Pack territory one last time. When we got to the medical wing Nurse Anna was waiting for us. When she saw me her eyes filled with tears.
"Master Asher I heard the good news. You are going home with your real mama," Nurse Anna said.
"Yes. I have a new house and a new room with blue walls. Do you want to see pictures?" I asked.
"I would love to," Nurse Anna said.
My mama showed her pictures on her phone of my new room and the house. Nurse Anna looked at them and smiled but she was crying at the same time. She wiped at her eyes and said it was a good kind of crying, the kind that came from hope instead of fear. The room looked warm and bright, with toys already waiting and a bed covered in soft blankets. For the first time, the future did not feel scary or uncertain. It felt real, like something I was finally allowed to have.
"It looks wonderful. You are going to be so happy there," Nurse Anna said.
"I am going to miss you. You were always nice to me even when I was difficult," I said.
"Oh, sweetheart. I am going to miss you too. But I am so happy you get to be with your mama now. You deserve to have a real family and a real home," Nurse Anna said.
She hugged me tight and I hugged her back. Even though I was excited to leave I was sad to say goodbye to her. She had been one of the few people who were kind to me.
