60. New Car.

Narrator’s POV.

After the witch head bid them farewell, they took off into the forest as fast as they could. They had spent more time than they expected and were expecting the alpha king to start a search for his second in command anytime soon.

He had unknowingly said that he would be away for only a week, they had spent five days; it was a four-day journey back to the castle and he knew they had to be fast in order to not raise suspicion.

This meant, they had to cut back on their breaks and sleeping time, it had to be a non-stop journey, “How are we going to get there in two days?”, Sarah asked worriedly,

“There has got to be a shortcut somewhere”, he said in a grumble, he wondered how he thought they could actually make a four-day journey in two days,

“I do not trust shortcuts”, she shook her head, “Did you bring a map?”, she inquired,

“No!”, he snapped, “I did not bring a map Sarah”, his tone raised an octave higher and she winced, cowering down before him. His eyes softened once he realized he had probably scared her, “Sarah”, he placed his bag on the dusty ground and placed his hand on her cheek softly, “I am sorry for yelling at you, I am just stressed out and I have no idea of what we are going to do”.

She gave him a sad smile and placed her hand over his, “We will be fine, Fredrick. We might end up getting there a day after but we will get there”, she assured,

“Wait”, he had a brilliant idea that he could not wait to share with her, he just hoped she would be impressed with him thinking skills, “We should get a car, we do not have to care about them following us anymore and that way, we can get to the castle faster”.

Her face lit up at the thought of not walking almost a thousand miles for the second time, “That is actually a good idea, you are a genius”, she complimented. His cheeks stained pink at her words; he had never been called a genius before, he was never really appreciated for his hard work or for his brilliant and sensible wits.

“Thank you”, he smiled and picked his bag up, “We should move along now, we will stop once we see a car dealership”, he took ahold of her hand and continued walking, dragging her along,

“You want to buy a new car?”, her eyes widened in surprise, how could he just buy a car without even planning for it?

“Yes, I think I do”, he shrugged, walking them out of the forest and unto the main roads, “Yes, I am”,

“But you did not plan for this”, she said in hysterics, how would he decide on buying a brand-new car just like that? That did not make any sense! Although she did not own a car, she knew the amount of money a fairly used car costed; it was expensive, not to talk of a brand-new car,

“It really does not matter, Sarah”, he sighed, “It is going to be worth it”,

“Why not rent a car?”, she struggled to reason with him, “That would be better, buying a new one would be a waste of money”, he scoffed,

“I have enough money to buy over a hundred luxurious cars at a go”, he did not mean to sound prideful but he did, it sounded like he was bragging about how rich he was to her. He had no idea that she hated the way he sounded, she disliked people who showed off even though it was to impress her or any other person.

“Very well then”, she clenched her jaw tightly to stop what she actually wanted to say to him from spewing out. She craved to tell him that bragging was very unattractive and pompous, he was not impressing her by the material things he owned, he was just driving her away.

After few minutes of walking, they came to a halt at a car dealership, ‘Ranger Motors’, the sign board spelt out, “This is Luna Ranger’s mates’ company”, Fredrick informed her,

“Yeah”, Sarah was still mad at him for showing off but the reason for her not so enthusiastic reply was because of the particular Luna he had mentioned; Luna Fiona Ranger, she did not trust that woman one bit. She could still remember the day that she had seen her claw the luna queen purposely but feigned innocence.

“I am guessing you are not a huge fan of her”, he chuckled as they entered the building,

“Not in the slightest bit”,

“Is it because she is friends with the luna queen”, he teased her, assuming she did not like Fiona because of jealousy and envy,

“No”, she rolled her eyes, “It is not that”, she knew she had to tell him about what she saw, but she could not do it here, not when her mate’s workers lingered around.

“Sure, it isn’t”, he smirked at her, making her roll her eyes again. A salesman walked towards them with a clipboard and a smile placed on his chubby face,

“Beta Jonathan, what can I do for you?”, the man bowed his head in respect, Fredrick nodded and acknowledged the man,

“I need a car, a very fast one”, he demanded, pulling out his golden credit card from his wallet. Sarah was not surprised that he had one of those, why should she be? All of the higher-class men who worked for the alpha king had one, including the luna queen. She had seen that card many times, especially whenever she went out with Daphne.

A smile creeped unto her face as she remembered the first day she met the luna queen, she had been fun and lively, and the way she selected everything in the store but dresses baffled her; that day was the beginning of a beautiful friendship and Sarah promised that the friendship they had will last forever.

“Sarah, let us go”, Fredrick said, snapping her out her thoughts,

“You are done?”, Sarah was surprised, how could she be so lost in her thoughts that she did not realize he had already selected a car?

“Yes, I am and we need to go, now”, he walked them over to his brand-new car and he opened the passenger door for her to get in. Sarah, although she would rather die than admit was surprisingly impressed by the car and she wondered how much he got it. She had no idea of what she should have been expecting when he told her he was getting a new car, but it was definitely a far stretch from this highly luxurious sports car.

“Thank you “, she said as she slid into the smooth leather seat, it was very comfortable and she loved the fact that she was the first female to ever enter the car. He closed the door and went to the driver’s side,

“With this thing, we can get to the castle by midnight”, he caressed the steering wheel a bit and inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent of the new car and the woman who sat down beside him,

“That would be great”, she removed her shoes and brought her legs up, tucking her knees under her chin.

“Sarah? Are you okay?”, he asked her in concern, he had finally noticed that she had been acting a little off since they got into the store,

“I will tell you when we are on the road”, she said and turned to face the window. On that note, he turned on the ignition and the car roared to life, he sped out of the store and turned onto the highway.

“What did you want to say?”, he asked her, his eyes were focused on the road, but he was eager to know what she wanted to tell him,

“I have a feeling that Luna Fiona Ranger has a hand in all that is happening”, she jolted forward when the car came to a sudden halt, the tires screeching on the asphalt,

“What?”, Fredrick was confused, what could one of Daphne’s closest friends have to do with all this? Was Sarah just falsely accusing her?

“I did some research before we left, did you know that Luna Ranger is actually Emilia’s maternal cousin?”, she asked him and he shook his head in surprise, “Also, after the last Luna meeting that was held, Luna Fiona clawed Daphne’s palm and wiped the blood off with a tissue, I could swear that she did not dispose it. She told Daphne it was a mistake but I saw the whole thing, she did it on purpose”, Sarah’s voice croaked out as she told him what had happened.

“Are you sure about this?”, he asked her,

“Yes, I am”, she confirmed her statement with a nod. She was one hundred percent sure that Fiona was not who she said she was, she was a bad person and Sarah could swear it to the gods.

“At least, we know we are not searching for Daphne in her house”, Fredrick pointed out, appreciating the fact that Sarah had just told him what she had observed. It was some useful information to this whole thing and they did not plan on leaving any table unturned in their mission to find the Luna Queen.
