Chapter 51 Chapter 51
Chapter 51

\- Natasha -

I went to the kitchen to order the maids to make some soup for me to give to the Alpha

No one cooked anything on Elena's anniversary but I didn't want him to go to bed empty

Some days I can convince him to drink the soup so his stomach won't hurt

But the maids stood looking at me like they could not understand my order

"Did you not just hear what I said?" I asked.

"We did, Natasha," one of them said, but the Luna had already made food for the Alpha."

I squinted my eyes and was going to ask what Luna, and then remembered Aria

She did what now?

Very bold of her to think she can by any chance win Jason's heart by making him anything to eat

He's certainly not going to have it

I knew he wouldn't. But I still wanted to confirm.

I was walking to his room when light sounds of laughter drew my attention around the dining

I slowed my steps and walked closer

I first caught Jason's eyes shining and lit up brightly with smiles

When I got closer I saw who he was smiling with

He was eating and being merry like a man who was not grieving

Like I had not left him some minutes ago looking so deranged. Like it was not his beloved wife's anniversary

Since Elena died, I have tried every night to comfort Jason but he's never relaxed this much

How was he laughing and talking so freely with Aria?

I stood in the dark corner, watching them, and my heart was burning with anger

First, I had a moment with Jason, then Aria came and I had to leave

Now she's dragged him to have food with her

What the hell is she up to? She must be greatly mistaken if she ever thinks Jason is going to develop any feelings for her.

I waited, standing there for a long time, so long that I stopped counting how many minutes it was

I wanted to have Jason alone so I could talk to him but Aria wouldn't let him be a single moment

She spoke to him, leaning in and making seductive gestures, luring him into doing whatever she was asking him to do

And to think she had walked into this palace like a naive little girl

It was very difficult to believe this was the same person that I could toss around like a clockwork

She must have hidden her real self under a facade and is now revealing who she truly is

A green snake in green grass

The condition in the palace is so comfortable that she's shading off and into her real colours

But not under my watch. I watched as she led Jason away and I folded my hands into a fist

I have been very lenient with you, Aria Rivera

I have warned you to leave this pack as soon as you can but you defied my words and stayed back

I have given you subtle warnings but they made you bold instead

Well, it can only get better. Whatever she pulls off I will take her down

It is time to get to her level and let's see how long she'd be able to hold on

I turned round to leave and bumped into Alexei. He startled and annoyed me at the same time

"What are you doing here?" I hissed

"I am glad I am not the only one witnessing the alpha being happy at a time like this," he said, ignoring my question. "Did you see that? I mean, who could tell that he'd be this lively? I think Aria is really doing a good job. And she's been doing so well since she stopped listening to you and began listening to me."

"You?" My eyes dilated slightly. "You are behind all these?"

"Oh no not really," he shook his head. "I only told her what this day was and that was all she needed to bring up thoughtful ideas that can help the King. Unlike the things you tell her."

"Did Aria tell you I told her otherwise? I only tell her things she needs to know," I said.

"She doesn't need to tell me. You think I wouldn't be able to figure it out? You're one person Jason trusts so much and I'm certain he might have asked you to put Aria through when she came to the palace. You took advantage of her innocence and ignorance to paint her in a bad light. I am glad she's realised soon and is using her brain."

I glared at Alexei. I do not blame him.

He does not have any idea what he is talking about. Aria is a stranger from another pack, yet he will support her instead, bitter that I rejected his approaches

It made him feel better that Aria was taking my place and I knew it

But Aria would not survive long.

"You are supposed to be one of the closest persons to the alpha," I said to him. "To advise and to protect him. Yet you cannot see beyond your nose. You act like a woman in the time of her menses, bleeding and crying for attention. Get yourself together and return to work instead of lurking around and watching for things to talk about like a gossip."

The smile left his face, and I walked away before he could get himself together and say anything.

Bitch...

Alexei is the least of my worries right now, and his words shouldn't have any effect on me. I wouldn't give him that pleasure

He has to be reminded every day that he cannot have that place in my life. He is not capable of making me happy nor causing me any sadness. I give the power of my emotions only to those who truly deserve it. He doesn't.

And I know just how to put everyone in their place. Including Aria. I have just the perfect plan. Aria should enjoy this much peace as long as it lasts.
