I was about to leave the palace after having a word with the alpha when I was told Sophie sent for me
I hesitated for a while, wondering what she wanted before going to see her
She was in her room, dressed casually and lying on the bed recklessly
"How are you, James?" She asked with a smile on her face and I frowned at her
"Sophie, what is it this time?" I asked. "What do you want from me?"
The smile on her face faltered
"Are you talking to me?" She responded. "Who do you think you are talking to?"
I sighed
"Sophie you know I...
"Just because I let you fuck me does not mean you should have any less regard for me," she said. "Don't forget, I am still your Luna. If I let you have the privilege of seeing me naked and you decide to take it for granted then I will no longer play around with you."
"I am so sorry, Luna. I did not mean to," I apologised even though I did not feel remorseful.
"The alpha said he's prepared a treat for you," she said. "A dinner to reward you for the good work you've done around the pack borders."
"Yes, Luna."
"You have done a good job, keep being the good boy that you are."
I was not interested in any of her compliments. I needed her to get straight to the point so I'd leave
"I am told your girl Veronica is to attend the dinner too," she corked her head in one direction and raised one eye at me
"That was what the alpha decided," I replied. "He said he wanted to use that to welcome her back to the pack."
"Isn't that amazing?" she said, her tone suggesting sarcasm. I was getting impatient.
"I have something for you as well," she said. "So you can give it to her as a present from me."
She pointed to the table and that was when I noticed the parcel
"I don't think there is any need for-
"I did not ask for your opinion, James. Take it, and give it to her."
I did not argue any further. I walked to the table and grabbed the parcel
"We appreciate it," I muttered
"Anything for my boy," she said, smiling and wriggling her feet.
"Can I go now?"
"There's one more thing," she said with a mischievous look on her face. "Come give Momma a kiss."
"Luna, please," I said, trying to hide my annoyance. "We cannot do that in here. Someone might walk in on us and we cannot afford that."
She giggled
"Oh, James. You fear too much. Is this how you act at the battlefield? Fine then. Go on your way. But be prepared, one of these days we will have a proper date so you'll fuck me well. I've missed you."
I tightened my hand into a fist
"Off you go," she waved me away and I took a deep breath before walking out
Back home, Veronica was so happy about the dinner and her eyes shone with excitement when I gave her the parcel
She opened it carefully
"Oh my goodness," she exclaimed. "These are so beautiful and expensive. I love the dress so much. The designer is a rare one. Not many people can afford it."
Then she picked one of the jewellery pieces and tried it on
"No way! This is real gold. How could you afford this?"
I had to tell her the truth
"I didn't," I said and she stopped to look at me.
"No? Then who did?" She looked confused
"Uhm," I cleared my throat. "Well, the Luna gave them to you as a gift. To welcome you back to the pack."
"Awwn," she placed her hands with the jewellery in them on her chest. "That is so lovely. These gifts are so nice. She didn't have to."
I watched her as she admired it all. She smiled at me
"Thank you," she said and I raised a brow at her questioningly
"I am so glad I have you. You are one of the noble men in this pack and this has brought so much importance to me. Imagine the Alpha inviting me to sit and eat with him on the royal table. And the queen? She gave me these expensive things as a gift. I feel so honoured."
"I am glad you like them," I did not know what else to tell her
"Of course I do," she said, then stopped briefly to look at me. "You don't seem happy."
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Look at your face, it is not bright at all. Is something wrong?"
"Oh no, not at all."
She sighed
"Are you stressed from work? Is that it?"
Then she dropped the things in her hands and moved closer
She rested her hands on my shoulder and kissed me on the lips
"Let me ease your stress, darling," she kissed me deeper, but I was not having it and just stayed rigid. She pulled away when she noticed.
"James?" She called, her face falling into a frown. "What is going on? Why are you acting this way? Did something happen?"
"Darling," I placed my hands on her shoulders. "Nothing is wrong okay? I just need to shower and get some rest. That's all. I've got a little headache, but it's nothing serious."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course. I leaned in and kissed her lightly on the forehead. "Let me go change okay?"
She nodded and I left her to go to the bathroom
Before I entered I held one more glance of her trying on the things Sophie gave her and I sighed
I love Veronica so much but this thing I have with Sophie is draining me. The worst part of it all was that I didn't know how it was going to end or stop
Maybe it would end when I officially get married to Veronica? I have to plan the wedding as soon as possible, as I hope it will draw the line.
